Yang Youming gently licked and kissed Xia Xingcheng’s tattoo. He kneeled on the bed with one leg as he gripped Xia Xingcheng’s shoulders, when suddenly, his movements grew rough and urgent.
His lips slid over Xia Xingcheng’s neck and fell at the corner of Xia Xingcheng’s mouth, before he ducked his head and ruthlessly bit his lips.
Xia Xingcheng could only tilt his head up to bear his kisses. His body was somewhat feverish, and his lips were also hot, like a ball of fire had gathered there, while Yang Youming’s lips and tongue brought a slight chill. He raised his hands and embraced Yang Youming’s neck, wanting to hold him so badly despite his weak state.
Yang Youming’s hands slipped down his back and under his sweat-soaked cardigan, rubbing at his waist and back.
Xia Xingcheng felt his body growing hotter in an instant. His waist had gone soft, his breathing was erratic, and his thighs were faintly trembling. Then, he felt Yang Youming’s lips leaving his mouth and pressing at his ear, muttering, “I’ve missed you so much.”
After that, Yang Youming kissed his earlobe, then his cheek.
Breathing hard, Xia Xingcheng blinked to relieve his stinging eyes, and as he hugged Yang Youming, he whispered, “I love you.”
He’s had many girlfriends, yet he couldn’t recall whether or not he’s ever said the word love. In fact, when talking to his friends, he’d also say ‘love you’ in a joking way, but this was the only time that he deeply felt the weight of the word, and he was heavy with all the love he possessed. He feared that, in the future, there was no way he could say “I love you” to anyone so casually again.
Yang Youming’s emotions were clearly stirred. Apart from that last time he got drunk, Xia Xingcheng had rarely ever seen him this impassioned. His hands touched Xia Xingcheng all over, and his fervent kisses were unceasing. Just as Xia Xingcheng was about to think that Yang Youming was about to do him right there in the hospital ward, those intense kisses and touches came to a halt, and Yang Youming kneeled at his bedside. He hugged Xia Xingcheng tightly until their bodies were pressed up against each other, his palm cupping the back of Xia Xingcheng’s head. He said, “I’m sorry, did I let you down?”
Xia Xingcheng couldn’t breathe properly yet. He firmly grasped Yang Youming’s sleeve and said, “In my heart, you’re perfect—you always have been.”
Yang Youming buried his head in his shoulder, not speaking a single word.
Xia Xingcheng said, “I thought about it for a long time. In fact—Yang Youming can’t be separated from Yu Haiyang, like how Fang Jianyuan is also a part of Xia Xingcheng, right?”
Yang Youming was silent for a while, then answered, “Yes, that’s right.”
Xia Xingcheng said, “You’ve acted in so many films, so it’s unlikely that you’ll have trouble understanding that if someone else were to play Yu Haiyang, I might not necessarily get stuck in the play. Because—the Yu Haiyang in my heart is you, there’s no way to completely separate the two. So regardless of whether I’ve come out of the play or not, deep down, the one I like will only be you. Fang Jianyuan and I are also like this in your heart, right?”
Yang Youming lifted his head and stared at him, softly nodding. “Right.”
Xia Xingcheng continued, “Ultimately, you still have misgivings about our identities, and you’re unwilling to accept me, yes? Is it because Yuan Qian let you down that you’re afraid you’ll be disappointed again this time?”
Yang Youming’s voice was muffled. “Maybe.”
Xia Xingcheng had to slightly open his mouth to breath, and he appeared wan and pitiful, yet he still persisted on and continued, “Then why are you here?”
Yang Youming looked at him for a long time before quietly saying, “Because my instincts overcame my willpower. I want to see you—I hated being apart from you. For a split second, I felt that nothing else mattered, and before I knew it I’d already bought a plane ticket.”
Xia Xingcheng’s eyes were red, and he smiled faintly. “So will your willpower be able overcome your instincts now?”
Yang Youming slightly lowered his gaze, then stroked Xia Xingcheng’s tattoo with a finger. “Don’t mention this willpower thing—the fact that I can restrain my instincts right now is already good enough.”
In spite of his fever, Xia Xingcheng still couldn’t help flushing.
Yang Youming’s finger stroked the tattoo over and over, like he was truly trying his hardest to restrain himself. He asked, “I heard that you were wronged last night?”
Xia Xingcheng was startled. He hesitated for a bit but didn’t tell Yang Youming a thing and only said, “I filmed in cold water for too long, I can’t really say if I was wronged or not.”
Yang Youming pushed aside Xia Xingcheng’s fringe. Remembering the thermometer he had thrown aside earlier, he said, “Let’s take your temperature first. Your assistant should be here to pick you up soon.”
Xia Xingcheng obediently let Yang Youming tuck the thermometer under his armpit.
Yang Youming then poured him a glass of water.
While his temperature was taken, Xia Xingcheng asked, “You’re not going to leave, are you?”
Yang Youming said, “I’m staying put for now, until you’re completely better.”
Xia Xingcheng said, “Then I won’t get better.”
Yang Youming laughed when he heard this, and he sat down at his bedside and looked at him. “I don’t have anything to attend to, but it’s not convenient for you to keep staying here.”
Xia Xingcheng understood, and said, “I know.”
Yang Youming leaned on the back of the chair, his thoughts indecipherable as he looked at Xia Xingcheng. After a while, he asked, “Why do you have a kiss scene with Zhu Tianjie?”
Stunned, Xia Xingcheng said, “It was only for comedic purposes, that’s all.”
Yang Youming said, “I asked Huang Jixin to tell you to stay away from Zhu Tianjie, didn’t he relay it to you?”
Xia Xingcheng’s shoulder stiffened over the thermometer. He remembered that warning Yang Youming had conveyed through Huang Jixin, but at that time, he thought that Yang Youming was only wary of the fact that Zhu Tianjie was gay. Now, it seemed like there was more to it than that.
Yang Youming said, “Forget it, it’s fine if you pay attention to not get too close to him in the future. It’s not easy to get along with that person.”
“It’s not just that,” Xia Xingcheng couldn’t help uttering.
Yang Youming looked at him, “What? What did he do to you?”
Before Xia Xingcheng could answer, the nurse suddenly opened the door and came in. She was immediately followed by Xia Xingcheng’s assistant, Hua Hua, who had returned after a short rest to pick up Xia Xingcheng.
Xia Xingcheng still had a light fever, but it was nothing serious. The doctor had prescribed medicine for him , so he didn’t have to stay in the hospital and could go back to rest at the hotel.
Hua Hua was unclear on Xia Xingcheng and Yang Youming’s relationship. She secretly made a phone call to Huang Jixin, and Huang Jixin told her to listen to Yang Youming’s arrangements, to do as she was told, and to not ask too many questions.
When they got back to the hotel, Yang Youming directly stayed in Xia Xingcheng’s room. Hua Hua went out to buy dinner for them, then delivered it to their room.
Xia Xingcheng had no appetite for dinner. He only had a bit of congee before he no longer wanted to eat. His body was entirely weak and his brain wasn’t all too keen on forming thoughts. After dinner, he rested in Yang Youming’s embrace, not wanting to do anything.
He had been sweating all over and didn’t even bother to change his clothes; it stuck to his skin, yet he didn’t want to move, lying on the sofa like a small child with his hands tightly clinging to Yang Youming’s waist, not letting him go anywhere.
Afterwards, Yang Youming told him to take a hot shower and change his clothes.
Xia Xingcheng looked up and said, “Let’s shower together.”
Yang Youming let out a laugh, then said, “No thanks.”
Xia Xingcheng said, “Then I’m not going.”
Yang Youming stroked his hair. “Are you a kid?”
Xia Xingcheng said, “Aren’t I a kid compared to you?”
Yang Youming looked at him and laughed.
Xia Xingcheng languidly egged him on again, “Go shower together?”
This time, Yang Youming nodded. “Okay then, I’ll go with you.”
He only said that he’ll go with him—not that he’ll shower with him.
When Xia Xingcheng took off his clothes and got into the bathtub. Yang Youming only made him sit down on the edge of the bathtub and grabbed the showerhead to help him rinse off.
Xia Xingcheng, who had originally felt too tired to stand, sat down with his hands on his knees, eyes closed as he let the water rush down his head.
The air conditioner in the room was set at a high temperature, he didn’t feel cold even when naked.
After his hair was thoroughly wet, Yang Youming shut off the water and wiped off the water on his face first before he took some shampoo and gently lathered it evenly on Xia Xingcheng’s hair.
Xia Xingcheng asked Yang Youming, “Can I lean on you?”
Yang Youming said, “You can.”
Xia Xingcheng added, “I’ll get your clothes wet.”
Yang Youming replied, “It’s alright, I’ll go change later.”
Xia Xingcheng thus leaned back against Yang Youming’s body. He sensed Yang Youming’s fingers massaging his scalp, and the dizziness from his illness seemed to ease for a while. He closed his eyes and said, “Has anyone else in the world ever enjoyed this kind of treatment?”
Yang Youming said, “No, only you have.”
Xia Xingcheng revealed a perfectly contented smile.
Whenever the foam on the top of his head slid down to his face, Yang Youming would wipe it off with a towel. Once his hair was cleanly washed, Yang Youming helped him wash off the sweat on his body with shower gel. After rinsing off the foam with water, Yang Youming shut off the water and wrapped Xia Xingcheng up in a bath towel.
Xia Xingcheng got out of the bathtub and just as he slipped his feet in some slippers, Yang Youming was already turning on the hairdryer, pulling Xia Xingcheng to him to dry his hair.
The hot air from the hairdryer caressed his scalp as Yang Youming’s fingers moved through his hair. Xia Xingcheng felt drowsy soon after—he’d never felt more comfortable in his lifetime than at this very moment.
Short hair was quick to dry, and by the time Yang Youmin turned off the hairdryer and hung it next to the mirror, Xia Xingcheng had turned to hug him, but Yang Youming captured his hands and said, “Go out first, I’ll take a quick shower.”
“I’ll help you out.” Xia Xingcheng said.
Yang Youming laughed and spanked him, pushing him out of the room.
Xia Xingcheng fetched a bathrobe from the wardrobe and draped it over his body, then took another one for Yang Youming and placed it in the bathroom before coming back and sitting down on the edge of his bed.
Shortly after, he heard the sound of water coming from the bathroom.
Xia Xingcheng fell back on the hotel’s queen-sized bed, his whole body sinking into the mattress. He stared at the ceiling light, the misshapen cut-glass emitting tiny spots of light. He felt like he was floating in midair, like everything looked unreal to his eyes.
This time yesterday, he’d been in distress over his and Yuan Qian’s scandal and uneasy about offending Zhu Tianjie. Yet now, Yang Youming had suddenly appeared by his side saying he missed him, even helping him shower with his own hands.
It was as if his previous anguish was rendered worthless in an instant. He even barely remembered Zhu Tianjie. His head was filled with nothing but Yang Youming.
He turned over and lay on his side, legs curled up, face pillowed on his hand.
The sound of water echoed from the bathroom. He knew that it was Yang Youming taking a shower, so he quietly listened to the sound, opening his mouth to let out a huge yawn.
Just when Xia Xingcheng was about to fall asleep, the sound of water was interspersed with the sound of knocking. He slowly opened his eyes and carefully listened for a while, discovering that someone was indeed knocking on his door.
He propped himself up in bed, put on his slippers, and wrapped his bathrobe a little tighter around himself as he stood up. He walked towards the door just as the water running in the bathroom stopped. Once he reached the door, he unlocked it and only opened the door a crack. Seeing that it was Zhu Tianjie standing outside, he opened it a little more.
Zhu Tianjie wore a black trench coat, with slacks and leather shoes on his lower body. His arms were crossed over his chest as he sized Xia Xingcheng up, scrutinizing him from head to toe.
Xia Xingcheng was merely clad in a single bathrobe. His skin was suffused with a hint of red, his eyes were a little swollen, and his hair was messy from rubbing against the bed.
Zhu Tianjie reached out to touch him. “Do you still have a fever?”
Xia Xingcheng immediately took a step back.
