“Song Yanyan’s SunHan ABO Fanfiction”

“Take me to my daughter. After I see her, I’ll do what you say and turn myself in.”

This was what Sun Yao promised Han Bohan, who agreed to his request.

There were bound to be police lying in wait in the vicinity of the hospital; Sun Yao didn’t dare rush over in broad daylight, so they waited until nighttime before Han Bohan drove Sun Yao back to the city. When the car arrived at the hospital, it was already very late.

Han Bohan parked the car in the hospital’s parking lot. Sun Yao wore a baseball cap with the brim of his cap pulled down to cover half of his face. The two men would split up in the parking lot, with Han Bohan taking the elevator to directly head over to Sun Yao’s daughter Sun Xunyan’s hospital room and Sun Yao taking the stairs. He’d think of a way to procure a white doctor’s coat along the way, and had also specially prepared a pair of glasses.

They both assumed that someone would be keeping an eye on Sun Xunyan’s room, so Han Bohan would go there first. If he saw the police, he would devise a plan to lure them away and create an opportunity for Sun Yao to enter the hospital room and see his daughter.

Before getting out of the car, Han Bohan suddenly grabbed Sun Yao’s left hand.

Sun Yao, who had just put on his hat, turned to face Han Bohan.

Han Bohan pursed his lips, and said, “Don’t deceive me.”

Sun Yao covered the back of Han Bohan’s hand with his right hand and told him, “I won’t deceive you.”

Only then did Han Bohan get out of the car. For some inexplicable reason, his heart was filled with panic. He wasn’t sure if he was doing the right thing from that moment until he stepped into the elevator. He’d never been like this before—he was a legal practitioner who couldn’t afford an ambiguous judgement for any crime. Right is right. Wrong is wrong. There’s no such thing as a so-called in-between. Even if there were, he had to decide which side to stand on.

But this time, while he clearly knew that he shouldn’t be assisting Sun Yao—he was softhearted. Perhaps softhearted wasn’t the right word for it, and it was more accurate to say that he couldn’t resist. He wanted to be near Sun Yao, wanted to be good to Sun Yao—wanted Sun Yao to hug him and kiss him once more.

That victim’s words once again crossed Han Bohan’s mind: “It’s extremely terrifying, because you didn’t initially love him.”

Han Bohan closed his eyes, raised his head slightly, and took a deep breath.

The elevator doors opened.

Visiting hours had long passed, but the inpatient building’s corridors remained brightly lit. At the nurses’ station, there were two nurses on duty; one was writing something with her head down, and the other was propping up her face with her hand, appearing slightly drowsy.

When Han Bohan passed by, he drew their attention, and the nurse on duty who was writing looked up and asked, “Who are you looking for?”

Han Bohan had seen Sun Xunyan once when he was investigating Sun Yao’s case, and he still remembered her room number. ”I’m Bed 15’s family member,” he told the nurse.

“It’s late, don’t walk around unless there’s something important. You should get some sleep.” He was apparently treated as a family member accompanying the patient.

Han Bohan nodded.

Sun Xunyan stayed in a single room. The door was shut, and no lights were turned on inside.

Han Bohan quietly opened the door and entered the room. It was a small room, and with the light from the streetlights streaming in through the window, the entire space could be seen at a glance. Sun Xunyan, who was lying on the hospital bed, was the only one in the room.

Sun Xunyan’s face was obscured by the darkness, but Han Bohan still remembered how she looked. She was a beautiful young woman, and her pale and sallow skin couldn’t hide her delicate features. She hadn’t reached the age for presenting yet, so her second gender was unknown, but because her mother was a Beta, the likelihood that she would present as a Beta was high.

If a beautiful Beta girl like her could wake up one day, she would undoubtedly become the target of many Alpha and Beta’s pursuits.

In the dark, Han Bohan’s gaze was fixed on her for a moment when, all of a sudden, the sound of rushing footsteps resounded from the corridor outside. It took only a few steps before they reached the hospital room’s door, and a tall male Alpha kicked it open while an equally tall male Alpha pointed a gun at Han Bohan. “Don’t move! Put your hands in the air!”

Han Bohan turned calmly to face them, slowly raising his hands.

The Alpha who had kicked open the door immediately reached out to hold down his partner’s hand on the gun, sounding shocked as he exclaimed, “Prosecutor Han?”

The lights were turned on; Han Bohan squinted in reflex, after which he got a good look at the two Alphas’ appearance. He recognised both men as criminal police officers from the city bureau. The Alpha who kicked open the door was Zheng Xujiang, a former student of his father’s and currently captain of the city bureau’s police squadron.

“Captain Zheng,” Han Bohan called out, slowly lowering his hands.

The astonishment in Zheng Xujiang’s eyes hadn’t waned. “Why are you here so late?” he asked, taking two steps closer to Han Bohan.

Han Bohan’s shirt was wrinkled, and his hair was a little unkempt, giving the impression that he was in a poor state.

Zheng Xujiang’s gaze never left Han Bohan, his brows furrowed slightly. He couldn’t remember when it started, but he had feelings for Han Bohan, and in the past, he used to go to the Hans’ house to meet Han Bohan’s father, Han Zhang, and would occasionally see Han Bohan as well. Han Bohan was still a university student at the time. He’d already presented as an Omega, a beautiful yet somewhat haughty one who would only give Zheng Xujiang an indifferent and polite nod whenever he saw him, unwilling to say more than a few words.

After Han Bohan started working, Zheng Xujiang would frequently come into contact with him. Han Bohan had been in the workforce for a long time, but while he appeared to be very easy-going, there was always an underlying cold arrogance in his demeanour that caused the Alphas who pursued him to lose hope and retreat.

Once, when Zheng Xujiang and a few of his colleagues from the bureau went out for drinks, they unintentionally gossiped about the bureau chief’s Omega son, who worked as a prosecutor. They all shook their heads one after another, saying that, if you couldn’t get the guy, there was nothing else you could do about it.

So upon seeing the usually neat and tidy Han Bohan appearing in such a state in front of him at present, Zheng Xujiang subconsciously sensed that something was wrong. Furthermore, he couldn’t figure out why Han Bohan would be here alone at such a late hour.

Han Bohan, as composed as ever, asked, “Are you guys on duty?”

Sun Yao’s escape from the detention centre had caused quite a stir. Not only was the prison system affected—the entire city’s public security system was also under a lot of pressure. They had dispatched a large number of police officers to conduct a city-wide search, and the fact that Zheng Xujiang would personally bring a team to monitor the hospital was unsurprising.

Zheng Xujiang nodded. He took another step closer to Han Bohan and, just as he was about to speak, he suddenly stiffened in place. He could smell Han Bohan’s pheromones, a scent that he’d never smelled before, because Han Bohan had never delayed injecting his suppressants. But it wasn’t Han Bohan’s pheromones that rendered him immobile; it was a trace of another pheromone mixed in with Han Bohan’s—an Alpha’s pheromones.

The competitiveness and rivalry amongst Alphas almost compelled Zheng Xujiang to draw his gun. He held it in at the very last moment, face reddening, his gaze locked on Han Bohan. “You’ve been marked?”

Han Bohan froze.

Zheng Xujiang was a little shaken. He hadn’t even gathered the courage to confess to the Omega he liked, and yet the Omega had already been marked by another Alpha?! He let out a low growl, “Who is it?!”

Han Bohan frowned. “What does it matter?”

As soon as he stopped speaking, the room was filled with a strange alarm that sounded ‘beep beep, beep beep’.

Han Bohan turned around and noticed a device on the head of Sun Xunyan’s bed that had begun flashing as soon as it began ringing. “What’s that?” He assumed it was Sun Xunyan’s monitoring equipment and that there was something wrong with Sun Xunyan’s vitals.

However, the faces of Zheng Xujiang and the other Alpha police officer who was standing in the doorway were suddenly filled with disbelief. The Alpha police officer took a step forward and addressed Zheng Xujiang nervously, “Captain Zheng?”

Zheng Xujiang’s face had lost all of its color, leaving him looking somewhat ashen. He seized Han Bohan’s hand this time, the veins in his forehead bulging as he asked, “You were marked by Sun Yao?”

Han Bohan’s chest tightened unexpectedly. He didn’t respond, instead turning to inspect the device on the headboard.

Zheng Xujiang suppressed his rage. “That’s a pheromone detector we borrowed from the Ministry of Public Security. It contains Sun Yao’s DNA, and it’ll automatically sound an alarm if Sun Yao’s pheromone concentration in the air reaches a certain amount.”

This device was still in its research and development stage, and not many had been put to use because of its high expense and tight restrictions. As the present situation had made a lot of noise, the bureau leaders had ordered them to borrow one from the Ministry of Public Security.

Zheng Xujiang continued interrogating Han Bohan: “Did Sun Yao force it on you? I’ll kill him!”

Han Bohan didn’t answer him, but the detector’s beeping continued to pick up, which then set off all the alarms throughout the hospital.

Zheng Xujiang and his partner abruptly reacted, they opened the door and dashed out.

Han Bohan’s face twisted, and he bolted out of the hospital room behind them.

There were far more officers lurking in the hospital than Zheng Xujiang and his partner. In a split second, they all mobilised, and the sound of rushing footsteps filled every corridor, while the patients and family members who heard the commotion all poked their heads out of their rooms to inquire about the situation. In the middle of the night, the initially quiet and peaceful hospital was thrown into chaos.

Han Bohan chased after them. Seeing Zheng Xujiang and his partner split up and rush down the stairs on each side of the inpatient building, Han Bohan hurriedly pursued Zheng Xujiang’s footsteps to run to the floor where he and Sun Yao had previously agreed upon.

The physical strength of Omegas had always been inferior to that of Alphas. On top of that, Han Bohan had just gone into heat. His footsteps were weak and unsteady, and he almost lost sight of Zheng Xujiang’s back.

He entered the stairwell and heard footsteps above and below. Someone below him yelled, “Don’t run! If you run again, we’ll start shooting!”

Han Bohan’s heart instantly seized up, and his steps as he descended the stairs became erratic. He continued to take deep breaths, telling himself to calm down, and then rushed down the stairs.

Right as Han Bohan made it to the second floor, he heard a gunshot from the first floor. It was as if the bullet had struck Han Bohan in the chest. His knees immediately went soft. He almost slipped, but luckily he caught hold of the handrails. He couldn’t bear to imagine the scene below, and all he could do was repeat to himself: Everything’s fine, everything’s fine.

Han Bohan’s eyes welled up with tears. He furiously wiped them away with the back of his hand and continued down the stairs.

When he reached the first floor lobby, he was greeted by the sight of nearly ten plain-clothes Alpha officers surrounding the lobby. He saw Zheng Xujiang’s back—the man was training a gun at someone amongst the crowd.

“DON’T SHOOT!” Han Bohan shouted. He dashed over to the crowd, but before he could get any closer, Zheng Xujiang turned around and ran to his side, holding Han Bohan back to prevent him from approaching any further.

“SUN YAO!” Han Bohan yelled. He had no idea whether something terrible had happened to Sun Yao; all he could see through the countless feet was a man lying facedown on the ground, firmly restrained by two or three people and unable to move a muscle.

Zheng Xujiang held him back and said, “He forcibly marked you. Don’t let his pheromones get to your head! He’s an escaped prisoner!”

Han Bohan kept struggling, yelling, “SUN YAO!”

Sun Yao was sprawled on the floor. “I’m fine!” he exclaimed, but the next thing he knew, his head was struck by the handle of a gun.

“Hold still! No talking!” yelled the police officer.

Han Bohan finally stopped struggling, collapsing to the floor as every ounce of strength left his body.

Zheng Xujiang helped him up. Seeing that he had no strength in his legs, he tried to carry Han Bohan in his arms.

The instant Han Bohan smelled Zheng Xujiang’s Alpha pheromones, he felt dizzy and nauseated, his stomach churning. He refused to let Zheng Xujiang carry him, and he pushed him away, preferring to sit on the ground. Then he raised an arm to cover his mouth and nose, saying, “Get away from me.”

Zheng Xujiang stared at him.

Han Bohan continued, “I can’t stand your pheromones.”

Zheng Xujiang couldn’t tell whether the mark on Han Bohan’s body was temporary or permanent. He just stared at Han Bohan dazedly, and a pained expression crossed his face a moment later.

Sun Yao was escorted away by the police. He turned his bloody face to look at Han Bohan, shook his head at him, and noiselessly mouthed, “I’m fine.”

The last thing Sun Yao saw of Han Bohan was him subconsciously reaching out to him, face full of tears.

After that, Sun Yao was locked back up in the detention centre.

This time, he was imprisoned for nearly two months. During that time, a prosecutor summoned him for questioning. He thought that he would be able to see Han Bohan, but when he arrived at the interrogation room, he was greeted by an unfamiliar prosecutor, prompting him to inquire, “Is Prosecutor Han Bohan all right?”

The prosecutor maintained a cold demeanour and refused to answer any of his questions.

Then there was the trial. He had no idea why, but the procuratorate only charged him with escaping custody and not with intentional homicide. That day, he didn’t see Han Bohan in court either.

In court, the judge delivered his verdict.

Sun Yao had already been detained for a half-year period prior to the court’s decision, so it wasn’t long before his sentence expired and he was immediately released from the detention centre.

On the day of his release, Sun Yao came out of the detention centre alone. Nobody came to pick him up; his only living relative was lying on a hospital bed and had never awoken to this day. Sun Yao had spent his days in the detention centre in a daze. No one told him what had happened, and until the very end, he had no idea why the procuratorate didn’t charge him with intentional homicide, but deep down, he always felt that it had something to do with Han Bohan.

Every word he’d told Han Bohan was true—he hadn’t murdered Cao Yuxiang.

At this time, Han Bohan was tailing Sun Yao in his SUV. He gazed at Sun Yao’s back from a distance, unsure whether or not to drive over.

Sun Yao’s pheromones had long since vanished from his body. His nape was as smooth as it had been before, with no trace of having been bitten. Han Bohan’s feelings for Sun Yao should have dissipated along with the pheromones.

But for some reason, Han Bohan ended up here. He’d seen Sun Yao’s verdict, and had firmly kept Sun Yao’s release date in mind. He didn’t know what he was thinking, whether it was just the lingering shadow of the temporary mark or if his heart had truly moved for the man. He didn’t know—and he couldn’t tell them apart.

Sun Yao walked along the dusty road in front of the detention center, his back a picture of loneliness. He hadn’t called a taxi because he didn’t have any money on him.

Han Bohan’s spotless and beautiful car was also buffeted by a layer of dust. Through the dust covering his windscreen, his gaze never left Sun Yao’s body. He knew where Sun Yao was headed, and he also knew that he could overtake him so long as he stepped on the gas pedal.

But he didn’t know if he should.

A black SUV noiselessly pulled up beside Sun Yao.

Sun Yao turned his head to peer inside the car.

Han Bohan said, “Hop in, I’ll give you a ride.”
