“I’d like to introduce you to a part-time job”

My mother told me while sitting across the dinner table, serving dinner.

I had returned from the special sale and completed my volunteering work and then helped prepare the dinner, after which, I started thinking on those words.

Part-time job. A part-time job, huh.

I have indeed been wanting to get a part-time job, but I had a history of scaring the interviewees at the time of interview and getting rejected by all of them.

Even though I was suddenly asked to discuss it, I wasn’t able to grasp the situation. While smiling, as usual, my mother repeats her words,

“So, do you want to get a part-time job?”

“Part-time job….what type of job Is it?”

“This”

My mother pointed her finger at the table with the food.

Potato salad, boiled chicken, grilled salmon, and barley rice. The miso soup had carrots, fried tofu, wake seaweed, and some leftover spinach from breakfast.

Healthy Japanese food. I made some of them. It can be said that I had the ability of an average housewife.

My mother seemed to laugh at my reaction. I was annoyed to see her enjoying this so much.

“It’s a housekeeper. It’s not uncommon for there to be a male housekeeper these days. There was even a drama about it recently!”

“No, I don’t watch dramas, so I haven’t heard of it.”

“Well, that’s that. It seems that they wanted help with housekeeping so I recommended you.”

“What’s you mean you ‘recommend me’? How can you do that when you don’t even know if I’ll agree to it?”

“Because you’re good with all sorts of household chores and it doesn’t seem like you’ll have any issue with your abilities?”

Sure, there was no problem with the job description. I had some housekeeping skills.

It’s usually me who takes care of the house for the most part on behalf of my parents who are often away from home. I may not be a full-time housekeeper, but I’m confident in my abilities to do better than average. That’s how it became my hobby.

“And the pay is good! You just have to go to their house once every two days to do some housework and get 150,000 yen a month.”

“Eh?!”

What’s with that amount?! I don’t think that’s an amount you pay for a part-time job. Are you serious?

My mother, who was still smiling and laughing, looked a bit scary…
