“Ah, the chairman of the Toba Group. Glad to see you here.”
“Congratulations on your company’s 10th anniversary.”
A high-class hotel in downtown Tokyo. A standing-dinner party was being held in a lavishly decorated hall.
I heard the conversation between my father and the president of the Toba Group’s business partner. I looked at Mitsuki, who quietly nodded and moved naturally to stand next to me.
The two of us stood behind my father. Soon, the president’s gaze turned to us.
“So… That’s the son I’ve been hearing about?”
“Yes. My son and his fiancée. Yuuya, Mitsuki.”
My dad moves to the side, giving us his place. Mitsuki and I stepped forward.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Yuuya Toba, Katsuya Toba’s eldest son.”
“ーI’m his fiancée, Mitsuki Fushimi. Thank you for inviting us today.”
Mitsuki and I bowed in unison, both dressed in semi-formal attire. As a man, I wore a simple business suit, while Mitsuki wore a light blue cocktail dress. Her light-coloured dress, beautiful black hair, and elegant demeanor gave those around her a neat and graceful impression, which fit her nickname as the ‘sheltered maiden’.
“Your son has already made a name for himself as an investor, I hear. And his fiancée, since her last name is Fushimi, is a day trader?”
“Yes, and her father is in an executive position. We’ve known each other for a long time, and to be honest, she’s too good for my son.”
Mitsuki smiled at my father for praising her.
“ーNo, Father, I am not yet very experienced. As Yuuya’s fiancée, I must continue to work hard to not bring shame to my family.”
I couldn’t let her lower herself like that.
“Come on, you’re being too modest. Your cooking skills have been recognized by my father, you play a key role in the student council, and your investments are successful. …And you’re still getting better at it. I’ve never thought of you as an unworthy fiancée for myself.”
“ーI’m glad to hear you say that. Thank you, Yuuya-san.”
Mitsuki smiled meekly at me, and I smiled back. Those words were completely true. It’s true that she’s on the student council, that her cooking is delicious, and that she is excellent at many, many things. …The only thing is, there are some big issues that nobody ever sees.
“…You two, this isn’t the place to act romantic. ーPresident, I apologize for how these two are acting.”
“Hahaha, seeing those two get along so well made me smile. I’m glad to see it. If the heir and his wife are like this, the Toba Group will be prosperous for years to come.”
“Ahaha, we’ll see if he ends up as my successor in the future. He’ll have to build up a track record the shareholders will be satisfied with.”
I looked at Mitsuki with a gentle smile as we listened to the adults’ conversation. ‘Did we go a little overboard?’ I thought to myself.
As the night went on, similar exchanges repeated.

ーAnd that was last night’s tiring party. We could have stayed overnight at the hotel after it, but Mitsuki instead wanted to go home to relax, and I knew she was planning to sleep in the next morning. But there’s a good reason why we put such an act on at parties. For better or for worse, many people approach us just because we’re children of business owners. To keep this in check, the two of us need to show them that we’re friendly, but at the same time not give them an opportunity to take advantage of us. I just have to be aware of my surroundings and how I act… Mitsuki, though, has a free-spirited personality to begin with, so it seems it’s extra exhausting for her.
“Dinner at the hotel was delicious, but it’s so hard wearing a mask the whole time… Their gyudon was really good! And a large bowl of soup with shichimi!”
TN: Gyudon is a bowl of thinly sliced beef with tender onions, savory-sweet sauce, and egg. Shichimi is a Japanese blend of 7 types of spicy seasonings.
A young lady that loves gyudon. I’m a fan.
“…Let’s get gyudon for lunch tomorrow.”
“Woww. I love Yuuya~”
She rubbed her cheek on my chest like an adorable kitten. Even while saying ‘I love you’ and laying on me, it’s not sexy at all. Ask anyone else, and they wouldn’t know how to react. It happens to me all the time though, so I’m not really shocked. Instead, I’m getting tired and sleepy.
…I pulled my phone out of my pocket and set my alarm for 11:30am.
“We’re getting out of bed before noon.”
“Yay!~”
“…And in exchange, you’ll make lunch for me, okay?”
“Mkay~. I’ll make your favourite omu-rice.”
TN: Omu-rice = omelette rice. You’ve seen it in anime.
Looks like she saw it coming. With this, I took down her plan, so I laid back down.
“Omu-rice, I already made the omelette, so do the rest.”
“Okay, got it. I won’t let you down. ーI mean, you even put me above staying at the hotel, right?”
“You’ve only got a few hours left, so lay down and enjoy it.”
I could’ve stayed at the luxury hotel last night, but I didn’t because… you can guess why. I can’t really complain, you know. I’d die for her omu-rice. There’s no better reason than that. And that’s that. You can see through others, but they can also see through you. Our relatives would tell us that they can’t really tell if we’ve got something good going or not.
