Examiner Corder adjusted his round glasses and took a breath.
It was just before sunset. The examination hall was now empty.
This year's entrance examination was tough.
“Good work, Mr. Corder.”
“Ah, thank you. Good work, Ms. Karen.”
He returned the greeting to the female teacher.
“How was it this year?”
Corder, asked, adjusted his round glasses and replied.
“It was tough, with one accident after another. As you can see, the examination hall I was in charge of is no longer usable.”
The ice covering the examination hall had yet to melt, making the surroundings chilly.
“It was the son of the Lamproug family, right? I believe he used three attributes.”
“Yes, and his servant was also out of the ordinary. With fire and wind attributes, he melted and blew away the targets. I wonder if the resistance magic array was broken.”
At least in the three years since Corder had been assigned, nothing like this had happened before.
“Well, that’s quite something, but the issue is the son’s score.”
“Wasn’t it the earth and water magic? Did you figure out what it was?”
“Not at all. That’s why I’m not sure how to score it…”
The practical exam was graded on how accurately one could cast standard spells. Using an unknown spell was completely unexpected.
“Unfortunately, it seems only the fire attribute can get a perfect score.”
“Hmm. Actually, I was also at the registration desk… Did you hear about the magic power of those two?”
“No, how impressive was it?”
“Well, not at all. The servant, Eifa, could barely use magic. As for Seika, it’s zero. In other words, no magic power at all.”
“Unbelievable… but I’m not surprised by anything anymore. After all,”
Corder said,
“there were even more exceptional candidates this year.”
“Yes, the one I was in charge of, Amu. Probably the first since the school’s founding—no one has ever destroyed all the targets of every attribute.”
The female teacher said with a smile.
“Perhaps she is a hero.”
“A hero? Like in those old tales?”
“Yes, the legendary one who is said to be born from the human kingdom when the Demon King revives.”
“Ms. Karen, do you have children?”
“I’m single, I’m afraid. I’m not telling stories to children. I just personally like them.”
“Nowadays, the truth of those stories is even doubted… but, yes,”
Corder adjusted his round glasses.
“If it’s true, it would be interesting.”
“Yes… it would be interesting.”
