Pushing through the crowd, what caught his eye was a young girl who had fainted on the ground. She was about eighteen years old, dressed very simply, and beside her was an elderly man with a face full of wrinkles. The old man's cloudy eyes were red, clearly indicating that the fainted girl was his granddaughter.

The kind-hearted people around them occasionally shouted out, hoping that a doctor might happen to be in the black market.

Seeing this scene, Ye Chenfeng felt a desire to help. To be honest, he wasn't a good person, but since he had encountered the situation, he decided to lend a hand. After all, it was just a small effort.

Just as Ye Chenfeng was about to take out his acupuncture kit to check on the girl's condition, a haughty voice rang out from outside the crowd: "Move aside, move aside. I am the head of the internal medicine department at Tianhai People's Hospital. Let me take a look."

The crowd made way for the speaker, and a middle-aged man in his forties walked up to the girl. His name was Kang Weizhong, the head of the internal medicine department at Tianhai People's Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Tianhai.

Seeing the simple, even tattered, clothes of the girl and the old man, Kang Weizhong frowned but still squatted down to examine the girl. He then said, "She has suffered a myocardial infarction, and her heart has stopped beating. If she is not immediately treated, she won't survive the day."

Hearing this, the old man immediately knelt before Kang Weizhong, pleading, "Doctor, please save my granddaughter, please save my granddaughter."

In modern hospitals, money was the only thing that mattered. If you had money, you would be treated; if not, you would be told to leave. Kang Weizhong regretted stepping forward. He could tell at a glance that the old man was penniless and wouldn't even be able to afford the hospitalization fees.

However, if he refused the old man in front of everyone, it would surely cause a public uproar. So, he quickly thought of a way out and said, "I am powerless. It takes at least half an hour to get to the hospital, and by then, even a god would be unable to save her."

The old man was struck as if by a thunderbolt. His wrinkled face instantly drained of color, and he kept bowing to Kang Weizhong, saying, "Please, please, do whatever it takes to save my granddaughter."

Ye Chenfeng watched all of this and quickly understood what the head of the internal medicine department at Tianhai People's Hospital was up to.

"Let me take a look!" Ye Chenfeng stepped out of the crowd, squatted down, and felt the girl's pulse. Anger surged within him. The girl's condition was not as dire as Kang Weizhong had described. Even if Ye Chenfeng did not intervene, taking her to the hospital immediately would not be life-threatening.

The old man looked at Ye Chenfeng with doubt. He didn't look like a doctor, and he diagnosed using pulse-taking, a method that was far less common than Western medicine these days.

After a preliminary diagnosis, Ye Chenfeng was confident he could revive the fainted girl. He asked, "Old man, your granddaughter has a chronic condition, right? Don't worry, I can save her right now."

The old man, grasping at the last straw, asked excitedly, "Really? You can really save my granddaughter?"

"No problem, don't worry," Ye Chenfeng said, taking out his acupuncture kit to prepare to help.

"What are you doing? There are no medical instruments here. You are just killing her. Do you really think a few broken needles can save her? It's absurd," Kang Weizhong said haughtily, his eyes filled with disdain. Even at this moment, he maintained his high and mighty attitude, trying to assert his authority.

Hearing Kang Weizhong's words, the crowd immediately started pointing fingers at Ye Chenfeng, and even the old man looked at him with suspicion.

Ye Chenfeng sighed inwardly. Being a good person was troublesome. It seemed he should avoid being a good person in the future. But since he had already stepped forward, he felt it was necessary to save the girl, or she might really end up in the hands of the Grim Reaper.

Pointing at Kang Weizhong, Ye Chenfeng shouted, "You are a disgrace to your mother. Get out of my way. People like you don't deserve to be doctors."

In Ye Chenfeng's view, if Kang Weizhong had chosen to be a doctor, he should have the belief to save lives and heal the injured. Otherwise, how could he call himself a doctor?

Ye Chenfeng was not a doctor. He only helped when he saw someone he wanted to save, as it was not his duty.

"You are just a quack, with no medical ethics. You are harming people," Kang Weizhong said with a serious tone.

Kang Weizhong's words stirred up a storm among the crowd. People started criticizing Ye Chenfeng, and some even told him to leave, saying he was harming both himself and others.

"Shut up, all of you! Didn't you hear? This so-called doctor has already said she can't be saved. If you don't let me help, what are you going to do? Who among you can save her?" Ye Chenfeng shouted in anger.

Hearing this, the crowd fell silent like frost-bitten eggplants. Ye Chenfeng was right. Kang Weizhong had already pronounced the girl's death sentence. If Ye Chenfeng did not help, she would surely die. If he did help, there was at least a glimmer of hope, no matter how small.

"Quack, quack! I want to see how you will save her," Kang Weizhong stood to the side, waiting to see Ye Chenfeng's failure.

In his view, Ye Chenfeng was at most a village doctor with no real skills, just pretending to be important. To make the girl's heart start beating again and wake her up, modern medical equipment was needed. A few silver needles wouldn't do anything.

Regardless, the old man placed his last hope in Ye Chenfeng, as Kang Weizhong had already declared his granddaughter beyond saving. At this point, he could only try anything, even if it was a last-ditch effort.

"Young man, my granddaughter's life is in your hands. Please, save her," the old man said with a sad and desperate tone.

The commotion attracted more and more people. People have a natural curiosity to see what's happening, and they tend to gather where there is a spectacle. Some even take pleasure in others' misfortunes, finding it entertaining. However, most people are not that low, and their moral standards are higher.
