"Hmm, is this it?"

In a plain and unadorned office, the man leaned back in his chair. He was in his thirties, though he could pass for his twenties, with black eyes and black hair. He massaged his right hand, which had been overworked by the quill pen. Glancing out the window, he saw that it was pitch dark, a sign that he had been deeply engrossed in his work.

There was a knock on the door.

At this late hour, there could only be one person visiting.

"Sir, I have brought you some tea."

"Ah, come in."

"Yes, I will not be long."

The door opened slowly, and the maid who served the man entered. She had a chestnut ponytail, and as she prepared the tea, her usually lovely face was twisted with sadness.

"Sir, are you not overworking yourself? You have been staying up late to write, and everyone is worried about you."

"Ah, tell everyone not to worry. I am not overworking myself. But thank you."

He sipped the tea she had prepared, savoring its flavor.

"I am not overworking myself, but I cannot die in peace until I finish this. Ha ha."

She watched him drink the tea, smiling, but remained silent.

Her master, the man, was Zest, the head court mage of the great Grun Empire, which dominated the continent. Having abandoned his Japanese name over a hundred years ago, he was now working on his final task.

"I don't have much time left. I must finish my last work. It's a promise."

With a sad smile, he picked up the quill pen again.

She bowed her head slightly, careful not to disturb her master, and left the room. She wanted to ensure that he could complete his final work and keep his promise. She gently gripped the pendant around her neck.

"He would probably laugh and say that I am worrying over nothing. But don't forget. Our people and our clan have received a debt of gratitude from him that we cannot repay. Even if it means turning the entire continent against us, do not betray him."

Holding the pendant, which was given to adult women of her clan along with those words, she returned to the waiting room.

"Grandfather, if I say I don't want you to do your last work, would that be considered betrayal? I still want you to live…"

The final work of Zest, the head court mage of the Grun Empire

It was the record of his 100-year-long battle, a summary of the tumultuous history that led to the empire's dominance over the continent, to be passed down to future generations. It was also a guide for other transmigrants from another world, to help them avoid the hardships he had faced.

Starting from the next chapter, the main story

The 100-year history that began the moment he transferred will unfold.
