Chapter 5

To be honest, I'm not quite sure whether the genre of "The Supreme Chapter" should be classified as "Eastern Fantasy" or "Classical Immortal Hero." It seems to fit both categories, yet neither seems entirely accurate. Long novels inherently have a diverse range of themes, and labeling them with a specific category is often inappropriate. However, calling it "Ancient Mythology" is the most fitting and closest description.
The story takes place in a fictional fantasy world. If we must discuss its historical context, it can be compared to the period of the Five Emperors in ancient China. However, this is only a reference and a basis for reimagining and reprocessing. The story's background in "The Supreme Chapter" is not equivalent to the actual era of the Five Emperors.
The book describes things that exist in a fictional world, making it a mythological novel rather than a historical one. For example, some surnames, objects, and language habits are difficult to strictly correspond to those of the historical period. Otherwise, it would be impossible to write in a way that modern readers are accustomed to. I can only strive to be rigorous in my descriptions within this fictional world.
However, since I have set this story background, certain issues must be noted, and certain principles must be adhered to. The era of ancient mythology is the budding period of human civilization, so the story will not feature Tang poetry or Song lyrics. I will also try to avoid using idioms with clear historical origins.
Some things that we now consider to be left by our ancestors did not even exist in the era of ancient mythology. By creating such a background, it is even more important to follow this principle; otherwise, it would deviate from what the book intends to express. Similarly, there was no concept of "Buddhism" or "Taoism" in that era, so the characters in the book cannot directly quote the Buddhist or Taoist classics and other texts that we see today. Any references can only be to the origins and early stages of these classics.
I am a novelist, and I also enjoy reading novels, especially those that are excellent or popular. In the process of reading many works, I have had a personal feeling. Many fantasy or immortal hero novels, regardless of where and when their story backgrounds are set, whether in ancient times or in a different world, inexplicably feature Buddhist and Taoist cultivation and the teachings of various schools, but it is hard to explain how they could emerge in such a world background.
For example, when I read "The Investiture of the Gods," this sense of disarray was particularly strong.
Some works span a considerable period, often thousands, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of years, giving the impression of a grand scale. However, the protagonist keeps leveling up, while the world background remains strangely static. Even after tens of thousands of years, the world in the book remains the same, with almost no reasonable dynamic process of civilizational evolution, which is somewhat confusing.
This feeling and confusion may be the origin of my writing "The Supreme Chapter." It begins in a fictional mythological era that is not strictly accurate in historical terms, but it is certain that there was no Buddhist or Taoist cultivation at that time. The end of this era marks the beginning of the later schools of thought. Of course, writing in this way brings many challenges, and I am also trying a new writing style.
Long-time readers may be concerned about whether this story background or "setting system" is related to my previous series. It can be both related and unrelated, depending on the perspective. It is both a new interpretation and one that reveals many familiar traces.
As for the recent updates of this book, I must apologize in advance! I will be out of town at the end of May and may not be able to ensure stable updates. Updates will return to normal by early June. I didn't plan to start the book so early; I wanted to wait a bit longer, but since I said I would start a new book in late May, I must keep my word. Additionally, I didn't expect to be so busy at the end of May.
I will try to find time to write, and I hope for the understanding of all my readers. Lastly, I want to remind everyone that in mid-June, there will be a promotional lottery event for "The Supreme Chapter" on Qidian. Any reader who owns "Xu Gongzi Shengzhi's Light" can participate and win a prize. Thank you for your long-term support!
