Bai Ye's heart was as clear as a mirror. From the tone of Liu Tiezhu's words, it seemed that Liu Junjie had played a dirty trick. After all, he hadn't even returned to the country yet, and they were already talking about the emergency department of Beihua Hospital. This was clearly fishy. Bai Ye's gaze was deep, his eyes calm, but there was a penetrating quality to them that made Liu Junjie feel uneasy.
After all, in the medical field, the emergency department was considered one of the most challenging. In terms of promotions, the emergency department had little chance. Most hospital leaders came from specialized departments, especially those like neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and orthopedic surgery, which were highly prestigious.
The same went for making money. The emergency department dealt with all kinds of patients, from sudden illnesses to car accidents, disasters, and more. It was a mix of everything, covering internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and more. After diagnosis, patients would either recover and be discharged or be transferred to specialized departments. Making money was not something the emergency department could do.
According to emergency doctors, it was a dirty job. They faced the most hardship, directly dealing with patients, and the department was always noisy like a market. The emergency department also had the most overtime. If there was any department with the most complaints, it was the emergency department.
"What do you want, Bai Ye?" Liu Junjie asked subconsciously. He was afraid.
At that moment, Bai Ye smiled brightly, which instantly infuriated Liu Junjie. He had been scared by just a gesture and a look from Bai Ye. His face couldn't hide his embarrassment, and he said sternly, "What gives you the right to be so arrogant? Just wait. There's a long road ahead. Tiezhu, let's go."
Liu Junjie turned and left, whether to avoid or out of fear. Bai Ye didn't stop him but smiled and said, "Liu Junjie, you fool. You'll understand in the future."
Emergency department? Not bad at all. Bai Ye was in a great mood. How could a sparrow understand the ambition of a swan? He was still thinking about how to get into the emergency department after returning. He hadn't expected that someone would offer him a pillow when he was sleepy.
Although Bai Ye had never practiced Western medicine before, his memory, knowledge, and foundation were still intact. With his new understanding, Bai Ye had made up his mind to go to the emergency department this time. Since he had made a promise, since he wanted to become an outstanding doctor, and since he wanted to win the Nobel Prize in Medicine, there was only one way—curing a terminal illness in the world. If he could treat all kinds of patients, his options would be much broader, and the emergency department was undoubtedly the place with the most patient contact.
Bai Ye truly didn't take Liu Junjie seriously; he was just an ant, not worth much attention.
However, he couldn't just leave without a trace. Since he had inherited this body and gained a new life, he should do something more. Something that would shock the entire school. Something that would make Liu Junjie jealous to the point of madness. Bai Ye muttered to himself.
Then he took out his phone, dialed a number, and said, "Professor, it's me."
Professor Mansano was busy in the lab at that moment. Hearing Bai Ye's voice, he frowned. He thought Bai Ye was coming to plead for mercy. Mansano had high hopes for this student, who was more talented than he and Alexander, with a bright future ahead.
He deeply regretted and was heartbroken by Bai Ye's situation. The boy had not been held back by his studies but had fallen due to emotional issues. It was too fragile and too unfortunate.
"Bai! I'm sorry, although I didn't want to make this decision. But you should understand. Six months should have been enough for you to recover. But you disappointed me, and you caused a huge impact on the entire school. So I'm powerless," Professor Mansano said as calmly as possible.
After a pause, Mansano continued, "Bai, you don't have to be discouraged. If you're willing, I can introduce you to a job at Los Angeles Hospital. You can continue to work with me on research. The only difference is the diploma."
Bai Ye was touched by Professor Mansano's words, not expecting such kindness. But would he stay? Absolutely not. The most important thing for him was cultivation.
"No, Professor; you misunderstood. I never intended to stay. Since it's like this, I want to return to China. I want to try my hand in the clinical front lines," Bai Ye said straightforwardly. It was a joke to stay here without the dragon veins and qi, unable to cultivate, which he could never tolerate.
Before Mansano could speak, Bai Ye continued, "Professor, I'm calling to donate one million dollars to your research lab."
" Bai, I appreciate your kindness... wait, you mean one million?" Mansano blurted out, his voice trembling.
One million dollars, that was enough to do a lot. But how could Bai have one million dollars? It was impossible.
Bai Ye smiled and said, "Professor, it's like this..."
He explained succinctly and clearly, telling him about winning the Powerball jackpot. Bai Ye wasn't worried about revealing his wealth. In the U.S., lottery winners' photos were often published in newspapers, so it wasn't a big deal.
The school's response was swift, especially when they learned that the donor was the recently expelled student. The school even considered reversing the expulsion. This wasn't strange in the West, and Bai Ye was a very good student. Six months wasn't a big deal.
Of course, Bai Ye wouldn't do that. He politely declined the school's offer. Then, photos, a large check model, and the presence of the school administration and Professor Mansano at the donation ceremony followed.
Soon, the school's website published a brief news item: "Our student, Bai Ye, donates one million dollars to the Mansano Lab for research." It also included a brief introduction and resume of Bai Ye.
This news caused a sensation throughout the school. Students who attended the ceremony and those who saw the news on the school website spread the word.
"Did you hear? That lunatic, after being expelled, directly donated one million dollars to the school."
"Ah, buddy, are you sure this isn't April Fool's Day? That lunatic? How is that possible?"
"Really, don't believe me? Check the school website yourself."
Various discussions spread throughout the Harvard campus. Naturally, they reached Liu Junjie's ears. In the double room where Liu Junjie lived, a glass cup was smashed on the ground. Liu Junjie's face was dark and angry, and he shouted, "What's going on? Tiezhu, go find out. We must get to the bottom of this. How did he suddenly have so much money?"
Liu Tiezhu was also a bit afraid. Liu Junjie was in a rage, and he didn't want to get hurt. Standing by, Liu Tiezhu said softly, "Don't bother. It's already been exposed on the school website. Bai Ye won the Powerball jackpot and chose to take the lump sum of 250 million dollars."
Liu Junjie's face darkened. He raged inwardly, why, why did fate favor this bastard so much? He was nothing, yet he suddenly got so much money. 250 million dollars, with that much money, he wouldn't need to study medicine. What was the point of academics and research? It was all fake. Studying these things was just to live better. With 250 million dollars, why would he bother studying?
"No, it can't be him. If it was him, why would he take the lump sum? Wouldn't it be better to take the full amount over time?" Liu Junjie said in a frenzy.
Beside Liu Junjie, Liu Tiezhu's face was complex. Coming from a rural area with no background or economic foundation, he wouldn't have become a lackey if not for his future. Looking at Liu Junjie, Liu Tiezhu sighed. This guy was crazy. The school website had published photos, so how could it be impossible?
Liu Junjie's madness no longer mattered to Bai Ye. He didn't care. By then, Bai Ye had already left the school and was sitting in the waiting hall of Boston Logan Airport, having passed security and obtained his boarding pass, waiting for the plane to board.
Bai Ye was genuinely surprised by the airplane. It was incredible that technology could achieve such free flight. Humans were indeed the most intelligent of all beings. Bai Ye's flight was scheduled for May 19th, at 12:49 PM from Logan International Airport. By the time Bai Ye arrived at the airport, boarding was about to begin.
