After getting back into the car, Gao Yang leaned against the seat, silent. He left the rest of the matters to James to arrange. Gao Yang sat in the car, looking at the dark forest by the roadside, shaking his head slightly, and said to himself with a helpless smile, "Killing others yesterday, and today someone comes to kill me. What kind of rhythm is this?"
The team that came to ambush Gao Yang was called "PALM," a large-scale professional hit squad with a good reputation in the industry. They had not failed in the past three years. After preliminary intelligence reconnaissance confirmed that Gao Yang had no deep background, PALM's leader, Carlos Delo, decided to take on this job.
PALM had a total of 11 members: one scout, five fire support, two snipers, one doctor, one computer expert, and one priest. Carlos was a priest, and in his spare time, he was a priest at a small church in Rio Gallegos, a city in southern Argentina. Being a priest was his main job, and being a hitman was his side job.
At this moment, Carlos was leaning against an Okume tree, cleaning his G36 assault rifle. As an experienced hitman, he had been tracking Gao Yang with his team since the morning. They did not use the ferry but crossed the river about two kilometers upstream using an inflatable boat. Being cautious and careful was his motto for staying alive.
In the earpiece, the scout Anderson reported, "The target has appeared, three kilometers from point A. Three armored Humvees, the target is in the second vehicle. The 14 bodyguards all have light weapons." After a pause, he added, "They are all professionals."
Carlos stood up and looked at the distant trees behind him, "Snipers in position." The sniper's voice came through the earpiece. Carlos turned to look at the computer expert Cole, who quickly launched the low-altitude rotary-wing reconnaissance drone and opened the real-time video transmission system on his computer. At the same time, the earpiece transmitted the voices of the other team members confirming their positions. Carlos took a deep breath, kissed his cross, and said in the earpiece, "Good luck, God be with you." Then he began battlefield silence. Carlos did not notice a bug with a faint red light in its compound eyes quietly lying in the grass beside him.
Gao Yang, leaning against the seat, suddenly smiled. "God?" He took out his sunglasses, put them on, and said to himself with a cold smile, "If your God doesn't come personally this time, you're dead!" Everything is relative; since you are trying to kill me for money, it is only right that I kill you to survive.
Carlos, wearing camouflage, lay quietly under a large tree less than 100 meters from the road, completely hidden by the dense foliage and underbrush.
The smell of the insect repellent on Carlos's body made him uncomfortable. To distract himself, he focused his gaze on the road bend about 200 meters to the right. The road had an almost 80-degree turn, with dense forests on both sides. Suddenly, the battlefield silence was broken by Cole's voice, "They have stopped, they have stopped!"
"Stay calm, continue to observe," Carlos said steadily.
After a while, Cole's voice came again, "The third vehicle seems to have broken down and has been left behind. The first two vehicles continue forward. They are 2.7 kilometers from point A."
"Anderson, delay the bodyguards left behind. The rest, prepare to engage." Carlos took off the safety on his G36 and got ready.
Soon, Cole's voice came again, "The target vehicles are slowing down, the target vehicles are slowing down, for unknown reasons."
"FUCK!" The voice of Nancy, responsible for fire support, cursed in the earpiece.
"Everyone stay calm, stay quiet, and continue to wait. Except for Cole, no one else speak! Cole, don't get too close, maintain a distance, and report any special situations immediately." Carlos calmed his team with a steady voice.
"The target is 2.3 kilometers from point A, traveling at less than 20 miles per hour," Cole continued to report.
A few minutes later, at the stopped third vehicle, Anderson had come to a spot less than 100 meters from the car, crouching in the grass, raising his M14, and looking through the scope at the Humvee.
"One, two, three, four... Hmm? Only four people??" Anderson was startled, just as he was about to observe further, he suddenly felt an intense sense of danger from his back! Before he could react, a large, dark hand suddenly reached out from behind him, covering his mouth, while another dark hand held a sharp, dull knife and slashed across Anderson's neck!
"Zzz..." The sound of blood spurting echoed in the silent forest. Anderson twitched weakly a few times and then went limp. The dark hand laid his body on the ground, took out a white handkerchief to wipe his hands, and took off Anderson's earpiece. Leaving the dark forest, he walked onto the road, the sun shining on the man, who was Captain James!
After getting into the car, James and a few team members quickly drove forward. James sat in the passenger seat, took off the scope from his M16, and looked through it at the low sky. "Hmph, a rotary-wing reconnaissance drone? Very professional."
At this moment, Captain Carlos felt sweat starting to form on his forehead. Something was off. Although it seemed there were no problems for now, he had a nagging feeling that something was wrong. "300 meters, about to turn into the ambush area!" Cole reported.
"Prepare!" There was no more time for Carlos to think; the most important thing now was to complete the job! If Gao Yang sensed something and escaped, the next attempt would be exponentially more difficult!
"FUCK! They stopped again!" Cole's angry voice rang out.
Something was wrong! Something was wrong!! Something was wrong!!! Carlos's mind raced. "Did they discover us? How did they discover us? What should we do now, should we abandon the ambush and retreat, or wait and see?" As Carlos was thinking, a loud "bang" came from the sky. He looked up to see the reconnaissance drone, which had been flying at the treetops, explode and fall apart!
"Everyone, be observant, be observant! We've been discovered, don't move, don't move! Gris, find out where they are!" Seeing the drone destroyed, Carlos immediately realized his plan had been discovered. The most important thing now was to stay calm and find out where the enemy was!
"Understood." The sniper Gris responded. He and his spotter Floyd were hiding in a 20-meter-high tree about 300 meters from the road. After receiving the order, Gris and Floyd began to use their scopes and binoculars to locate the enemy.
Gris was not worried about his safety; his camouflage made him blend into the environment, and he had sprayed himself with a cooling agent, making him invisible even to thermal imaging!
Gris adjusted the magnification of his scope and carefully scanned the forest ahead of point A. Suddenly, a figure in casual clothes with a gun appeared in the scope! The gun was pointed directly at him! "How could..." Before Gris could finish his thought, his head exploded with a "bang." A second later, his spotter Floyd's head also exploded.
"Gris? Gris? Floyd??" Carlos called out urgently in the earpiece. The two gunshots made his forehead sweat! The sniper did not respond, and the surrounding environment was silent, making Carlos's heart sink. It seemed they had encountered a military-grade opponent today!
Suddenly, he remembered something and pressed the earpiece, "Anderson? Anderson?" No response. Carlos finally began to panic. It was no longer about completing the job; it was about how to survive!
Gao Yang handed the AK47 back to Cherkov and returned to the car. The other bodyguards had already infiltrated the forest. Only Cherkov, a Russian giant, was by his side. Gao Yang had ignored Cherkov's advice and personally taken out the snipers, which had frightened the Russian. Cherkov had watched through his binoculars as Gao Yang used the AK47 to take out the two snipers from a few hundred meters away!
After taking out the snipers, Gao Yang decided not to act again, leaving the rest to the mercenaries. He had paid them to do the job. Gao Yang leaned against the car door, lit a cigarette, and smoked it contentedly. Cherkov, standing beside him, looked at Gao Yang with a stunned expression.
"Zzz" James's car, which had been rushing from behind, stopped beside Gao Yang. "Boss?" "Yes, go do your job." Gao Yang glanced at his watch, "Hurry up, I have things to do when I get back."
James said nothing more, turned, and led a few mercenaries into the forest, crouching low. Soon, intense gunfire, mixed with shouts in different languages, cries for help from the wounded, and the agonized screams of the dying, echoed through the forest. Gao Yang threw away his cigarette, got back into the car, and turned on the car's music. The melodious music played in the dark forest, mingling with the sounds of gunfire and explosions, creating a bizarre scene.
At this moment, Carlos and his team were in a fierce battle. They were just hitmen, not professional soldiers! When hitmen lost the element of surprise and were forced to engage in a conventional battle with a group of experienced professional soldiers, their fate was already sealed.
A few minutes later, with the sound of a grenade explosion fading away, the brief firefight ended. When the forest was silent again, Gao Yang turned off the music and looked at his watch, "Less than 6 minutes." He hummed to himself, "Not bad."
