Chapter 34-CEO novel (14)

Sweat formed on her forehead and slowly condensed together to form droplets that slid down her face. It dripped onto her keyboard, but Gu Anran did not feel anything as she stared at the screen while her hands moved constantly. Her face was frighteningly pale, probably from the relentless concentration and excessive use of brainpower.

If one looked at the clock, it had only been ten minutes since they started the attack, but things were already this desperate. The Peng family’s firewall was extremely tricky and convoluted, but Mu Qingli could only watch from the side with eyes full of distress.

She wanted to reach out and wipe the sweat but was afraid of ruining Gu Anran’s concentration. Therefore, Mu Qingli could only pull herself together and focus on the rising and falling stocks in front of her.

At this time, Gu Anran had completely cut herself from the outside world and focused all her power on the online reality in front of her. To her, the Peng family’s firewall was like a game on the super-hard mode she had to clear or a super-complex type of maze. There were traps in every corner to bypass and monsters waiting behind them she must defeat before she could finally reach the finish line.

The process, in the beginning, was easy, nothing that she couldn’t handle. However, the difficulty suddenly increased soon after her invasion and it was suddenly harder to break through. Gu Anran could understand if the difficulty gradually increased, but this sudden spike indicated that someone was countering her on the other side. The Peng family were really efficient, they could still manage to pull up some staff to resist her invasion even when their company was under fire.

RAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TATAT! Gu Anran’s fingers moved faster and faster, like a machine gun going off, as the battle got fiercer and fiercer. Her fingers continued to move while the speed increased, but she had to endure until the other side breaks.

After nearly 20 minutes, she finally was able to make a clean breakthrough into their firewall. With little precious time, she didn’t even have time to prepare a backup as she downloaded the data that was continuously running past on her screen. The storage volume of the data was large, possibly dozens of gigabytes or even terabytes of information was stored. Just exactly how much data did they put under this one system? It was even possible that the data gathered here went all the way back to when the Peng family was founded.

After a minute, the slow download only had about 3% complete when the other side had begun to fix the firewall. Gu Anran could only directly hack into the database and divide the data into blocks, that way she could download the data faster. It didn’t matter if the data was out of order, she could piece them together later. After all, who says you had to steal the data in a designated order?

“Master, the firewall was broken through!” The butler ran over with unbridled panic in his eyes.

“What! Quick, delete the data, delete all of the data immediately!” Peng Qing stood up abruptly and threw down the documents in his hands. If the data was leaked, the Peng Family will no longer have a foothold in the business, they would cease to exist in the industry. No, it was even worse, they would no longer be able to exist in this world. The Peng family would become like the common street mice, mocked, and disdained by everyone. If they lose the data, they will receive twofold the punishment in retribution!

“Little Kai, how is the situation on your side?” Peng Qing turned towards Peng Yankai.

“It seems like the Duan family is trying to hold us up while the real fight is somewhere else. At first glance, one would think that the attack is quite serious but it’s nothing we can’t recover from. That means the breakthrough on the firewall is their real attack.” Although Peng Yankai’s face was blank, unlike his father’s desperate expression, his eyes were full of madness. Conflict, battles, blood! These were his favorite things and he was participating in a fight for the woman he loved! Qingli, my Qingli! After I win this fight, you….will be mine!

Licking his blood-red lips, Peng Yankai headed towards the Peng family’s main room with a strange smile while ignoring the look full of suspicion from Peng Qing.

Gu Anran widened her eyes as she stared at the computer in shock. What the f*ck!?? The Peng family’s firewall was being rebuilt at an alarming rate and the data also quickly disappeared. Was the other party really going to wipe out all the data and abandon years of information? Gu Anran quickly sped up her download and tried to block the other party from self-destructing completely. Instead, she was going to salvage as much as she could.

Gritting her teeth, she released a self-made virus into the system but the other party quickly fought back. It was another intense back and forth before the download and deletion reached its climax. With no other choice, Gu Anran immediately unplugged the machine and closed her laptop.

“Huuu…” She shut her sore eyes and exhaled. Immediately, a soft body hugged her as the usually cold voice took on a hint of gentleness,

“Are you okay? You did well, rest now.” Mu Qingli whispered, wiping the sweaty face in front of her with a white handkerchief.

“I’m fine. Here is the data, but it’s not complete. It’s probably because they didn’t want the data leaked so the Peng family decided to delete the data. I was only able to salvage about two-thirds of it.” Gu Anran’s voice was hoarse, her throat scratchy as she reported the news. A glass of water immediately appeared in front of her.

Gulp. Gulp. Knocking her head back, she downed the entire glass.

“Drink slowly, no need to hurry.” Mu Qingli soothingly patted Gu Anran’s back, staring into her bloodshot eyes. She reached out and gently massaged the other’s temples.

Perhaps she had really exerted herself too much as Gu Anran fell asleep in only a few minutes.

Mu Qingli gently set Gu Anran’s head onto her thighs, fixing her body into a more comfortable posture. She lazily patted the sleeping Gu Anran’s cheek and then turned her attention to the flash drive in her hand. She inserted the drive into her own computer and quickly browsed through the data Gu Anran had fought for.

She quickly organized the information and frowned. The Peng family was worthy to be called a corrupted tycoon, they had an immeasurable amount of dirty deeds to their name. In addition to their personal information, there was information on everything else they participated in. The Peng family were involved in almost everything: smuggling, drugs, dealings with the mafia, possession of illegal arms, and more. And of course, they had some shady business in their entertainment industries, but there was also darkness in their shops and property. The most outrageous thing was the Peng family even dabbling in human trafficking and they often kidnapped children from the remote parts of the country.

If all this was passed up to the authorities, then the upheaval it will ignite will be unimaginable! This caused Mu Qingli’s brows to tighten even more.

“Qingli, these people are most likely in the clear.” Chi Mengyan entered the room with a stack of files, each page containing rows and rows of names.

“En, I’ll leave it to you.” Mu Qingli raised her head and answered.

“Ok~ Ah, Little Ran is sleeping!” Chi Mengyan plopped down next to Mu Qingli and pinched Gu Anran’s nose, blocking her breathing a little. This caused Gu Anran to wrinkle her small face in displeasure.

“Mengyan, stop messing around.” Mu Qingli quickly pushed Chi Mengyan’s hand away and let out a relieved sigh when she saw that sleeping face return to its original content expression.

“Hmph, I see you are neglecting your friend, for your lover instead.” Chi Mengyan pursed her lips.

“Mengyan, Qingli, that fellow is charging in for the kill!” Hong Qingyi, who was tasked to stand guard outside, hurried and rushed in the door. Just as she finished, Mu Qingyan charged into the room.

“Mu Qingli! You are no longer the vice president and as a mere manager, you dare not attend the meeting? Do you not even respect me, the new vice president?!!”

“Ehm….” The loud noises made Gu Anran frown, causing her to shift her body as she showed signs of waking up.

“Mu Qingyan, be quiet.” Mu Qingli snapped coldly as she noticed the cutie in her arms waking.

Mu Qingyan’s eyes widened even more and she screeched even loudly,

“Hey, hey! Mu Qingli, you think you are still the arrogant vice president like before? I order you to leave at once, the Mu Company no longer needs you here!”

Mu Qingli’s expression was as cold as the winter frost and she opened her mouth to speak, but was interrupted when the person lying on her legs moved. At this moment, Hong Qingyi quickly patted Chi Mengyan and Mu Qingli on the shoulder, motioning with her hands for them to cover their ears. They would only understand why in the next minute,

“NOISY….IT’S TOO FU*KING LOUD!” The roar that came out was nth times louder than Mu Qingyan, causing not just Mu Qingyan to clam up but everyone else as well.

They watched as Gu Anran opened her eyes to reveal a pair of bloody eyeballs, her gaze landing on the culprit with an outraged expression as she staggered to her feet.

Mu Qingli reached out to help her, only to be stopped by Hong Qingyi who placed a finger to her lips and gestured for them to stay silent.

“Hey, you! Just what are you trying to do!” Perhaps Gu Anran’s tone was too frightening as even Mu Qingyan trembled silently before its might.

“Did your mother not teach you to be quiet when other people are sleeping? Are you a fu*king retard or just blind? This is a business office, and yet as the vice president, you think you can act unrestrained like this? What kind of bigshot do you think you are? You are just a weak Adou [1], and yet you still dare to act so arrogantly! And every time you come in, you either throw the door or knock it to the ground! Do you not know how to open a fu*cking door!? Is your IQ worse than a three-year-old? Then you use that shrew sounding voice of yours to poison people’s ears, every single day! Does your conscience even hurt from all the damage you cause! Wow, Second Miss is soooo amazing…not! You’re just a strawman, propped up with someone else’s help! Your father let you play the part of a vice president and now you think you’re the real deal! Well, you’re not welcome here, so get the f*ck out of here!” Gu Anran pointed an accusatory finger at Mu Qingyan, the words coming out of her mouth like a machine gun firing bullets.

“You….” Mu Qingyan stared by was interrupted by Gu Anran,

“Did you not understand my words! I said, GET OUT!” She rushed forward and pushed Mu Qingyan out the door, vigorously closing the door behind her.

Mu Qingyan stared blankly at the door for three seconds, at the door that almost broke her nose. Not only was she scolded by a mere secretary, she was also shooed out the room like a common employee. With furious anger building up inside of her, she pushed at the door only to find that it was now locked. Slamming her fists on the door, she yelled,

“Mu Qingli! Open the door! Open the door!”

“Qingli, you should ask security to send her away, or else we really will become a laughingstock in the eyes of outsiders.” Chi Mengyan said as she sipped her coffee and watched the person who was cursing only a few moments ago lie her head back onto Mu Qingli’s thighs. The same said person proceeded to sleep sweetly as if nothing had happened.

“En.” Mu Qingli nodded and picked up the phone. After a while, they heard a ruckus outside as someone shouted ‘What are you doing! I am the vice president! I order you to let me go, let go!!’ and things finally calmed down.

“My little Yi Yi, explain. What was up with her just now?” Chi Mengyan pointed at Gu Anran.

“Anran has a very bad case of morning grumpiness and she values her sleep very seriously. That means, unless she wakes up on her own….well, if someone wakes her up with no valid reason she will curse and scream at them until they retreat. Of course, this doesn’t apply to those she knows and trusts.” Hong Qingyi shrugged.

So….does that means she sees me as someone she knows and trusts? Mu Qingli looked down at the sleeping person on her legs, a look of joy flashing in her eyes. As long as they succeed this time…I will confess…I wish for me to stay by your side and I hope…you will not refuse me…

T/N notes:

[1] Adou: Not sure if the author meant the Tawainese slang or not, but Adou in Mainland China used to be a nickname of Liu Chan and he was a really inept emperor. Therefore, when you call someone ‘Adou’ you are calling them a weak and inept person.
