Chapter 28

When you're enjoying delicious food, it's only natural to want to share that pleasure with someone else.

Amelia, being human, felt this desire well up inside her as she ate.

She had thought that the usual dishes would be familiar to the people in this mansion, but there would be no such thing as a dish made with weeds.

"…Lady Amelia, is something the matter?"

Staring intently at Sylph, who was standing by, Amelia said,

"Would you like to try some, Sylph?"

"Eh?"

Caught off guard by the unexpected offer, Sylph's eyes widened in surprise.

"The Yomoki salad has a bitter taste and a bit of a peculiar flavor, so I think the Nobby pasta is better! It goes perfectly with the oil pasta."

"Ah, no... I am curious about the taste... but as a servant, I can't just partake in Lady Amelia's dinner..."

"It's fine, it's fine. The chefs tasted it in the kitchen and gave it a very good review."

Sylph turned and gave a sharp look to the chef standing behind her.

The chef whistled ostentatiously and turned away.

There was no one else in the room besides the chef and Sylph.

After a moment of contemplation, Sylph sighed and said,

"If Lady Amelia wishes it..."

"Yes, try it, try it!"

Amelia stood up as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Sylph hesitated but, encouraged by Amelia's beaming smile, she tentatively sat down.

"Then... I will have some..."

Using the extra fork and spoon skillfully, she took a bite of the Nobby pasta.

"…!!"

Sylph's eyes widened dramatically.

"It's delicious."

"Isn't it!?"

Amelia beamed with a perfect smile.

"The garlic and chili provide a stimulating kick, combined with the refreshing flavor of the Nobby leaves... I'm sorry, I don't have the vocabulary to describe it, but it's a taste I could eat forever."

—She was happy.

Since her mother's death, she had been eating alone in that desolate cottage.

The only company she had were the mice running around in the attic and the spiders that made their homes in the windows.

The shared appreciation of something delicious, the empathy of someone saying it was delicious when she thought it was delicious.

It was a joy she had long forgotten, the happiness of sharing 'delicious' with someone.

A warm feeling welled up in Amelia's chest.

"Thank you, Lady Amelia."

Sylph, who had risen from her seat at some point, bowed her head and said,

"It was very delicious."

"No, no, you're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it."

Amelia laughed without a care, and Sylph continued,

"We should make some for Lord Logan too."

"Uh... y-yes! I should definitely make it and have him try it..."

Amelia hesitated because the pasta and soup were made with the help of the chefs.

Despite boasting about her ten years of cooking experience, she had never used complex kitchen tools or cooked dishes that required a fire (the cottage didn't have them).

Seeing the chef pretending not to hear, Amelia resolved to improve her cooking skills.

Resettling in her seat, Amelia resumed her dinner.

While munching on a fluffy piece of bread dipped in the soup, she thought to herself,

(Lord Logan... I wonder if he's working hard...)

Since the commotion in the bed, she hadn't seen Logan.

He was often away from the mansion during the day due to work, and they hadn't had much time to meet.

However, she wasn't lonely.

He had said that in a few days, the peak of his busy period would pass, and he would have more time.

Just knowing that promise was enough.

She had been alone for ten years.

A few days were nothing.

(Hehe... I'm looking forward to it...)

Looking at the empty seat next to her, Amelia eagerly awaited her next meeting with Logan.
