"Damn, Old Wang, are you crazy or sick? Are you actually studying?"
It was mid-October, and during the morning self-study period, Du Tianhang, who was nearly 1.87 meters tall, walked into the classroom in a daze. There were only about ten students in the class. It wasn't until Du Tianhang approached his seat that he suddenly noticed his deskmate, Wang Hao, was already sitting there, full of energy and reading a Chinese textbook with great interest.
He glanced at the cover and confirmed the content, then his face showed shock as he asked in disbelief.
It had been a week since Wang Hao was called out for the first time. A week isn't long, but it isn't short either. During this time, Wang Hao wasn't the first to study Chinese on his own, but the first time he did, he only studied for a few minutes before class ended. After breakfast, he returned to his usual self.
However, as Wang Hao was called out more frequently, he picked up his Chinese textbook more often, his attitude became more serious, and the duration of his study sessions gradually increased.
Du Tianhang also discovered, to his great surprise, that Wang Hao would chat with Huang Jingyao on his phone during class.
He didn't know what these two were talking about; Wang Hao kept it extremely secret, more so than ever before.
Now, the guy who always ranked first in Chinese in the class was up so early, and when most of the students in the class were still half-asleep, he was already full of energy and reading a book? Du Tianhang came early just to get some extra sleep.
"Go play somewhere else, don't disturb me while I'm reading." Wang Hao's face turned red, and he shooed Du Tianhang away like a fly before he returned to his book with great interest, as if he had discovered a new and exciting toy.
It wasn't that the textbook content was particularly interesting; it was that he realized he wasn't actually stupid. After all, he remembered that his Chinese grades were indeed good in elementary school, often ranking at the top of the class. He did well in the first and second years of junior high school too, but his interest gradually waned.
Now, after being thoroughly confused by Huang Jingyao, and not knowing how to distinguish between the truth and falsehood of what the teacher said, he occasionally tried and found that as long as he put in the effort, he could remember a lot of things after reading them a few times.
He was playing with himself.
"Actually, I've always been smart; I just didn't want to study and had no interest. Now it seems that as long as I take it seriously, the textbook isn't that hard... Could what that guy said be true?"
As he played, ignoring his deskmate's shock, Wang Hao glanced at a figure not far away, one he couldn't forget and always found particularly special. Each time, it gave him a unique sense of impact.
Before, he thought he had no chance, but now?
When Huang Jingyao first chatted with him, it all sounded very mysterious at first, and he was thoroughly confused. After a breakfast, he became clear-headed again, thinking it was all fake and grandiose, and that he was silly to believe the nonsense Huang Jingyao said. But for some reason, the more they chatted, the more he felt that Huang Jingyao was right.
This was also why he became interested in studying Chinese. Of course, Huang Jingyao's goal wasn't just to get him to study Chinese; he later introduced many new things. Wang Hao didn't know how the teacher knew him so well, but the more he interacted, the more he felt that what the other person said was right. No matter what, studying definitely wouldn't harm him.
So, Wang Hao unknowingly developed a new interest.
The most important thing was that he found that third-year Chinese wasn't difficult. If it had been very hard and strenuous after a few attempts, he wouldn't have continued. Because it wasn't difficult, he felt like he had returned to the invincible state of his elementary school days, and his interest grew even more.
He read with great interest. After a while, when the morning self-study officially began, his deskmate poked him a few times in the midst of the loud reading voices, and he realized that Huang Jingyao was standing next to him.
"Teacher Huang, you scared me to death." Wang Hao wasn't afraid, but he glared at Huang Jingyao in frustration while standing up to follow him.
Huang Jingyao smiled and said, "Du Tianhang, come out with us."
The two athletes were taken aback but obediently followed.
When the three stood outside the classroom, and the two tall guys looked at him with confusion, Huang Jingyao said to Du Tianhang, "Du Tianhang, I remember you're better than Wang Hao in sports, right?"
Among the two athletes, Du Tianhang was indeed more outstanding in all sports, and he was taller and more handsome than Wang Hao.
After hearing this, Du Tianhang, despite his many doubts, smiled smugly.
Huang Jingyao also smiled, "You two are good friends, and even if there's some competition, the difference in who's stronger or weaker isn't that big, right?"
"Of course." Du Tianhang nodded humbly, smiling even more broadly.
"But there's one thing you might never catch up to Wang Hao. I bet that in the next mid-term exam, Wang Hao will score over 100 points in Chinese, and you probably won't even reach a fraction of his score."
"..."
Du Tianhang's eyes widened in shock and disbelief, while Wang Hao, who had initially looked a bit abnormal, showed signs of excitement.
Huang Jingyao was right. He and Du Tianhang were very close, but he really wasn't as good as Du Tianhang in every aspect. It didn't matter much when he didn't think about it, but once it was pointed out, he felt不服气 (unwilling to accept it). The competitive spirit is a natural impulse for teenagers.
Feeling不服气 (unwilling to accept it), he suddenly heard Du Tianhang say this, and he didn't know where he got the courage, but he wanted to do something impressive to prove that he wasn't always overshadowed by his friend.
"Afraid? Then go back." Huang Jingyao waved his hand and gave Du Tianhang a mocking smile, as if looking down on him.
"Who's afraid? Damn, I believe you that Old Wang will score higher than me, but 100 points higher? You wait and see, I'll win!" No one humiliates him like this. Even though Du Tianhang only scored 30 points last time, it was still higher than Wang Hao's. Wang Hao didn't put much effort into the test, leaving the essay blank, and Du Tianhang didn't put much effort into it either; his essay only scored 10 points.
100 points higher? Don't be ridiculous.
He glared at Huang Jingyao in frustration and stormed back to the classroom without waiting for the teacher to say anything more.
"You can do it, go back."
Huang Jingyao still didn't care, smiling and patting Wang Hao on the shoulder with an encouraging look.
After the two athletes returned to the classroom, Huang Jingyao nodded in satisfaction. This time, he didn't waste much effort, but the few words he said had a better effect than the first time he spent a whole class period.
"You still need to accurately grasp the psychology of teenagers. Du Tianhang is extremely competitive, which is why he would risk injury to be first last time. In their field, Wang Hao isn't bad, but he lacks confidence and competitiveness, so a little provocation can have a big effect."
This time, he didn't increase Du Tianhang's learning talent but spent 10 points of literary qi to raise Wang Hao's Chinese talent to 8, surpassing the top student in the liberal arts class of Luoquan High School!
As long as he put in the effort, it was October 9th, and the mid-term exam was in early November, which was enough time for a significant improvement.
As long as Wang Hao made great progress, he should also gain some literary qi.
Of course, after a week of repeated experiments on Wang Hao, he had become more proficient in psychology and was ready to find his second target.
His goal wasn't just to improve one person's Chinese scores.
