Before he could blink, Xiaofeng suddenly found that the scene before him was no longer the rental apartment, but had transformed into a magical place.
As if in a dream, Xiaofeng pinched his arm hard, and the intense pain convinced him that what he was seeing was not a dream or an illusion.
It was a small space, and Xiaofeng's line of sight extended only about ten meters before it was shrouded in a gray mist, making it impossible to see what lay beyond.
Xiaofeng stood on dark soil. Not far from him, a clear spring was gently bubbling, and near the spring, a stone stele about half a person's height stood, inscribed with the four ancient characters "Zizhu Space." Beside the stele, a cluster of purple bamboo, over a foot tall, stood like a finely crafted art treasure, complementing the spring.
About ten steps from the spring, there was a small courtyard enclosed by a purple bamboo fence, and inside the courtyard stood a tiny purple bamboo house!
The dark soil, gray mist, clear spring, ancient stele, strange purple bamboo, and the purple bamboo courtyard formed the main elements of this magical space, leaving Xiaofeng in awe.
However, as a seasoned bookworm who spent a lot of time on a certain website, Xiaofeng's nerves had long been desensitized by various穿越 (穿越 means "穿越" in Chinese, which can be translated as "time travel" or "transmigration"), rebirth, and even more fantastical stories. Therefore, he managed to maintain a semblance of calm in the face of this magical space.
Xiaofeng realized that he might have hit the jackpot?!
He steadied his nerves and walked toward the purple bamboo courtyard, believing that the secret of this space must be hidden in the bamboo house. After all, he had entered this space for no apparent reason and needed to find out the truth about its origins.
The purple bamboo fence was not locked, and Xiaofeng easily pushed it open!
The courtyard was about fifty square meters, and as a science student, Xiaofeng quickly estimated its size. The soil inside the courtyard was the same fertile, dark earth as outside.
Xiaofeng approached the bamboo house and found that the door was only latched, not locked, so he easily entered.
The bamboo house was not large, about the same size as his rental apartment, around twenty square meters. All the furniture and decorations inside were made of purple bamboo, with a consistent style.
Glancing around, Xiaofeng quickly focused on a large box in the corner, about a meter in length, width, and height. The other furnishings were ordinary household items, but this large box was the only one that might contain secrets.
The box was also unlocked, which impressed Xiaofeng. The owner of this space must have a lot of confidence, not locking anything. But then again, in such a magical space, locking things would just be a hassle.
Opening the box, Xiaofeng saw two bound books, and beneath them, neatly arranged scrolls. He didn't know what was below that.
Xiaofeng picked up the first book, which had the title "Zizhu Annals" on its cover. It wasn't too difficult.
He flipped through the thin pages of "Zizhu Annals" quickly, but the vertical, right-to-left traditional Chinese characters made his head spin. Fortunately, Xiaofeng had taken a course in ancient Chinese literature in college and had recently read many traditional texts to learn about antiques. With a mix of guessing and understanding, he finally grasped the general content of "Zizhu Annals."
The bottle Xiaofeng had found was called the "Lamb Fat Jade Bottle," and this space was called the "Zizhu Space," supposedly passed down by Guanyin Bodhisattva from the Southern Sea's Purple Bamboo Grove. Xiaofeng remained skeptical, as people often attributed various things to famous figures throughout history.
However, given the magical nature of the jade bottle and the Zizhu Space, it wasn't unreasonable to call them divine objects.
The "Lamb Fat Jade Bottle" had always been in the hands of cultivators, but during the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, when Liu Bowen was ordered to cut the dragon veins, the spiritual energy of China was severed, and the cultivation world had to leave Earth to seek development elsewhere.
Due to the loss of spiritual energy, the original owner of the Zizhu Space had moved all the spiritual herbs and other cultivation-related items, leaving only an empty shell. The box contained, besides the "Zizhu Annals," a collection of famous paintings and calligraphy from various dynasties. Xiaofeng glanced at the list and saw the names of heavyweights like Wu Daozi, the Two Wangs, and Su Shi.
Now, Xiaofeng was a semi-expert in antiques and knew that if these legendary masterpieces were to appear, they would cause an earthquake in the art and cultural worlds. Naturally, these well-preserved masterpieces, thanks to the magical nature of the Zizhu Space, were worth a fortune and could bring Xiaofeng immeasurable wealth.
As for why the "Lamb Fat Jade Bottle" was not taken by its owner and instead left on Earth, eventually falling into Xiaofeng's hands, the "Zizhu Annals" did not provide an answer, leaving Xiaofeng with a mystery. The "Zizhu Annals" also did not describe the functions of the Zizhu Space in detail, leaving many things vague and confusing.
It was like playing a game without any guide or instructions, just a note saying, "Please explore on your own." This was quite frustrating.
After reading the "Zizhu Annals," Xiaofeng understood that because his blood had touched the jade bottle, it had recognized him as its new owner, making him the new master of the "Lamb Fat Jade Bottle" and the Zizhu Space.
Putting down the "Zizhu Annals," Xiaofeng still found it hard to believe. If it weren't for the magical nature of the space, he would never have believed that he had casually picked up a magical treasure.
The other bound book was titled "Qi Induction Technique," filled with difficult-to-understand text, diagrams of human acupoints and meridians, and detailed action illustrations, which left Xiaofeng even more confused.
Sitting in a bamboo chair in the house, Xiaofeng was lost in thought for a long time before he finally came to his senses, left the Zizhu Space, and returned to his rental apartment.
At that moment, Xiaofeng had no interest in going online or focusing on the porcelain appraisal materials he usually enjoyed. Lying in bed, his mind was a whirl of thoughts.
In various fantasy novels, Xiaofeng had often imagined what it would be like to have a magical encounter and how wonderful it would be. But when it actually happened, he found himself at a loss.
Xiaofeng had never thought that, after being unemployed for the fourth time in a year, the heavens would give him such a huge surprise!
What should he do with his life now that he had the "Zizhu Space"?
Should he sell the famous paintings and calligraphy, gain a fortune, and live a luxurious life in a mansion with a luxury car, indulging in a life of debauchery?
Or should he use this as capital to start his own business, dominate the business world, and eventually make it to the global list of billionaires?
Or should he use this to enter the antique world, turn his hobby into a career, and become a collector?
...
Various thoughts swirled in Xiaofeng's mind, like scenes from a movie, making it impossible for him to sleep. His eyes grew increasingly wide.
It wasn't until the sky began to lighten and the distant sound of roosters could be heard that Xiaofeng finally drifted off to sleep.
