Chapter 13

Dennis von Kestner was waving his proud blonde hair and rubbing perfume all over his body like a madman.

“Oh, God! It stinks! It stinks!”

Though lacking in masculinity, his reasonably well-groomed face is elegant, and his young, flabby body, though not robust, is clean.

Dennis was desperately trying to prevent his own beautifully groomed, aristocratic body from being consumed by a vile, nose-curling stench.

“How dare they! I, a member of the prestigious Kestner family, with a promising future as a Holy Medical Guru, had to work covered in horse shit and sweat!”

After generously using the expensive perfume to counteract the horrible smell, Dennis finally calmed his breathing.

Then, in his room in the dormitory, he continued to curse, saying that he should throw away the name of God, fortunately, that there was no other person in the dormitory.

“What is it with them? They say they’re knights, but they act like a bunch of hooligans. They’re stinky, dirty, and have no manners.”

“I’ve used the Holy Healing Technique, and they don’t even revere it. They don’t understand the preciousness of a Holy Medical Guru, do they?

A Holy Medical Guru.

They were people who perform medical miracles using the Holy Power called the Grace of God.

On this continent, many humans adhere to the Aulerian religion, with Auler being the main god. A small percentage of believers receive divine grace, also known as “Holy Power.”

It varies in content and strength, but it is generally meant to protect and nurture life, such as healing wounds, speeding up plant growth, calling for rain, and so on.

Holy Power can manifest itself one day in a commoner, not unlike a miracle. Still, it was usually passed down through bloodlines.

The Kestner family was one of the most prominent families that had produced many high-ranking Gurus and Saints. Although they merely held the Baron title, they were also close to Marquis de Lotner, who was also a Bishop.

Among other things, Dennis’s healing power was said to be at the same level as the Kestner family founder.

Although it is a bit inferior compared to the power of the founder’s, which was at a level of restoring severed limbs, it was still a power that far surpassed other doctors’ skills.

As a result, Dennis was formally commissioned as a Medical Guru before he was 15 years old. He was given a room close to the center of the castle.

“I, who, under the guardianship of the Marquis, may eventually take a seat of power in Luden’s religious circles! Why all these damned undercurrents!”

Nevertheless, for the past few weeks, Dennis had been busy treating the knights and taking care of the servants.

That was because his beloved Marquis Clemens von Lotner had ordered him to undergo on-the-job training, telling him that to improve his healing skills, it was vital for him to do a lot of fieldwork and gain more insight.

“That’s right, the demon tribe that should be vanquished is also to be exterminated today, so it’s unlikely that His Eminence would be seriously injured. But it doesn’t that mean that I have to heal their subordinates’ injuries as well.”

Dennis gnawed on his well-groomed nails.

Healing was a holy power given only to the chosen humans.

It seemed too good to give it to ordinary people who were not of nobility, not favored by God. There was no need to heal peasants anyway.

You can give a peasant a handful of herbs so that they can treat their wounds. They are solid anyway.

“I can’t thank you enough for the care you’ve given me.”

Denis gritted his teeth as he remembered the earlier scene.

Today was the day of the Knights’ medical examination.

As they were waiting in the pavilion after a mock battle, the wounded were brought in one by one.

Most of them were bruises, sprains, and lacerations.

Some of the injuries were not minor, but not so much as serious.

Besides, the only people who were brought in were the junior knights, and by the looks of it, they were simply no different from flimsy thugs.

Even though it would be irreverent to appear before a nobleman in such a state, Dennis touched his sweaty, mud-stained body and muttered a prayer.

Nevertheless, the knights who had received his healing looked uniformly unsatisfied.

‘You think it’s going to go away in a flash? Hmph, I can’t pour such an enormous amount of holy power into each and every one of you, you fools.’

After all, he didn’t know how many more people he would have treated.

As a result of treating them while leaving them with a lot of extra energy, at best, he could only apologetically close each person’s wounds and relieve the pain.

Just to say, though, it still heals several times faster than applying to regular techniques, and it’s quite a burden for the healer.

‘This is no different than how that maid used to treat us, right?’

Those were the most unforgivable words that one of the knights had blurted out with a shrug of his head as he was leaving.

It was a whisper to himself, but Dennis, with his infernal ears, heard it all.

Rumor has it that the Knights have recently had a maidservant named Elma or something like that coming and going to treat the wounded.

She was so good at it that those treated by her healed three times faster than those who were not.

‘But she’s a maid. Not a nobleman, not a medical guru. Not even a man! Hmm, I guess that’s what those greasy knights think of their female counterparts. I’ve heard rumors about Elma’s name before, in the context of being a favorite of the former Consort and a good cook. She must be an overly ambitious woman with an excessive amount of feminine charm who wants to be the Second Prince’s lover. However, it is too much to engage in medical treatment on the part of a maid.’

If that’s the case, it’s even more important that you don’t use treatment as a weapon to make men feel good about themselves – Dennis is a proud boy. Still, he considers the act of treatment itself to be sacred.

“Oh, I can’t wait to end my days like this and become a resident physician to the nobleman, just like the Marquis.”

Before the on-the-job training began, Dennis had been Lotner’s bag-bearer, even visiting the rooms of the First Prince Felix, whom he supported.

Lotner was a marquis, a bishop, and the prince’s counselor because he can dissolve the mind without the art of healing.

Felix himself seemed to be a foolish, mediocre person as rumored, but he was still the First Prince.

The rooms are extravagant, and the collection of saddles and jewelry, apparently collected as a hobby, was magnificent.

Denis was delighted to be allowed the honor of viewing them through the Marquis.

He wanted to be on that side of the world.

‘I can’t wait to get back to the world I deserve.’

A world where the miraculous healing power can be more properly celebrated and where the only people around are clean and noble.

The knights should be grateful for a folk remedy, like a maid’s cure, at best.

Dennis let out a sigh and stared blankly at the prayer cloth hanging on the wall.
