Chapter 15

We were supposed to be released from the sweaty mock rescue operation because all that was left was the parade exercises, but Dennis was in the living room,

“There’s an emergency!”

And it was only an hour later that he stepped in.

Since the continuous exercise of holy power was very taxing on the medic, the sacred medical gurus’ shifts were meticulously arranged in advance.

‘From what I heard, it seems that it was a knight who was injured. I tried to get him to wait until his commanding officer came back, but the knight who came to contact me yelled at me and took me to the scene. What a bunch of barbarians!’

Dennis cursed inwardly as the group of sweltering bastards made him approach again.

There used to be a definite status gap between the nobles and the knights, but now that the second prince had joined the order, they’re all in good shape.

It was outrageous to kidnap Dennis, the baron’s son, even though he was a crooked man.

But Dennis barely swallowed his anger down his throat when he felt that he couldn’t match the beating he’d taken as a result of his insistence.

And.

‘What is this……?’

The moment he recognized the “patient” lying there – in the pavilion near the training camp where he was brought in – he completely calmed down.

There was devastation there that made him want to cover his eyes, even though he should be used to seeing some level of injury.

On the stone floor, a young man, who appeared to be only slightly older than Dennis, was lying on his back with his right trouser cut from below the knee, and his feet were bare.

No, maybe it’s better to say that he was barefoot.

The flesh was torn into jagged pieces from around his shins, and his ankles were bent in an odd direction.

Through the cracks in the flesh, he could see slimy, stringy things and white bones.

To top it all off, he tied a cloth just below his knees to stop the bleeding, and yet blood would occasionally spurt out strangely.

It was more than a superficial injury – it looked like a cursed sight.

“Spell gear.”

‘One of the knights who brought me here said something like that.’

He contorted his face in abhorrence and thrust something at Dennis. It was a horseshoe covered with a cloth to prevent him from touching it with his bare hands.

‘The hoof of the horse this guy rode on had been replaced with something like this. It looks like a work of art, but after a few moments of walking, it shattered, and the pieces stuck into his leg. The horse went wild and kicked him, and worst of all, crushed his foot. Now the pieces are spreading like a curse in his foot.

No.

Who would wonder why?

But when he heard the young man lying there moaning like a beast, he couldn’t even faint, just because he had a decent pain tolerance, Dennis came to himself quickly.

Right now, anyway, it’s time to heal.

Dennis thrust one knee on the floor where the pool of blood was spreading and reached out to the young man’s leg.

Dennis had never encountered such a horrible scene before. After all, he was a newcomer and, most importantly, because he could say a prayer and the patient would be cured.

“O supreme light from heaven! My Lord, answer my prayer, and by the light of your majestic love, do you pity the children of the earth.”

His voice trembled.

Just then, blood sprayed up from the wound again.

‘Aah!!’

Dennis let out a pathetic scream and sat up.

“Idiots! Don’t scream at the doctor!”

Just as suddenly, a fellow knight who was desperately encouraging the young man who was lying down – apparently called Theo – by his side, taking his hand and encouraging him, raised his voice.

Dennis shook his shoulders in a fury and managed to turn to Theo again, but the wound was too grotesque to be looked at directly.

“Oh, poor, poor earthly child.”

The hand that held it up was free.

“The Marquis of Lotner, who was also my teacher, told me that the activation of holy power requires an image. This means that if you are going to heal a wound, you need to imagine the shattered bones joining together and the torn flesh closing in.”

“I can’t.”

Dennis almost choked out.

But Theo, in front of him, was bellowing like a wounded beast.

It must be painful.

It doesn’t matter what your status was.

There was an overwhelming sense of cruelty that blew away the flimsy preconception that a peasant is supposed to be robust.

‘And the seriousness of what I need to save.’

“Wrap it up, heal it and bless it.”

‘I managed to chant a prayer with the fuel of my first budding sense of responsibility.’

But – the wound that should have been blocked by light showed no signs of change.

“Shhhhhh, bless you! Give me your blessing!”

“Why?”

Dennis was impatient.

“Bless you! Please!”

Screaming as his throat ripped open didn’t change things.

Or rather, on the contrary, as if in defiance of the scripture, the blood began to flow out again with a thud.

Seeing this, Dennis realized with despair.

“The spell gear is rebounding off the Holy Power!”

“What did you say?”

The knights who were watching around him groaned.

Pale with shock, Dennis told him, voice trembling, what he understood.

“Oh, there’s a piece of spell gear stuck into his leg somewhere, bouncing off the holy power. The wound won’t accept the healing technique. He’ll lose all the blood in his body.”

Dennis couldn’t say that he would die, as expected. But everyone in the room seemed to get it.

The person who seemed to have the most authority in the crowd – the deputy company commander – gulped and then announced in a low voice.

“Guys. Hold Theo’s body down. And gag him, so he doesn’t bite his tongue.”

“…… Deputy Chief …….”

The other knights nodded at it with a sad look on their faces.

Only Dennis, who failed to get the right meaning, turned his dubious gaze to the deputy company commander.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going to cut off Theo’s legs.”

Wah!

Despite his exclamation, the man who was called the deputy company commander drew his sword with a look of stifling pain.

“The point is, I only need to get the shards of the spell gear away from his body. Can you at least seal up the amputation?:

“No! You may be able to close the wound, but you can’t bring back the lost leg!”

“What else is there to do?”

He couldn’t argue any further.

‘Struck with a sense of helplessness, I watch as the knights prepare for the amputation. Can’t I do anything?’

It was as if their conversation could be heard on the other side of the wall.

‘A spell-gear is only supposed to be doused in holy water to neutralize it. But I can’t take the first steps because I can’t get the spell-gear fragment out of his leg?

If so, what kind of a holy medical guru am I? What kind of healing is that? Just being able to put the flesh back together is not the same as being good at healing…!’

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the deputy company commander take a bottle of alcohol from one of the knights.

He knelt beside Theo, a gentle expression on his stiff face that he would use to comfort a child.

“Theo, I think you’ll like this one very much. You can have your fill. Come on; there’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m pretty good with a sword.”

“Uh, I… I…”

Theo nodded frantically, his sweat coming off his face.

He seemed to be trying to say thank you over the grunts.

Dismemberment, using alcohol to cover up pain and fear.

Such a brutal scene is about to unfold.

‘Can’t I save ……?!’

Dennis unknowingly clenches his fists, tears in his eyes.

And then.

“Please wait.”

A voice came from behind him, low and calm, and seemed to belong to a girl.

Everyone in the room turned around.

The petite girl, who met dozens of gazes in a matter-of-fact manner, told them nonchalantly as she paused to raise her bare hands in the air for some reason.

“Why don’t you put that alcohol to better use? — let me use it to sterilize my hands.”

The slender white arms and thick glasses that didn’t reveal her face reflected the sunlight in a dazzling light.
