The Merchant Guild was also located on the main street.
Inside, it was more tranquil than the Adventurer's Guild, with everyone talking calmly with smiles on their faces. Neon called out to the receptionist,
"I would like to sell some White Opal Mushrooms."
Neon said this with a slightly smug look. However, upon hearing this, the receptionist looked a bit troubled, as if to say, "Here comes another child dreaming of a fortune from White Mushrooms."
"White Opal Mushrooms require appraisal. The appraisal fee is 200G per mushroom. Is that okay?"
It's quite expensive. Most people probably bring just ordinary White Mushrooms. The high price might be to prevent a large number of unnecessary appraisals.
"It's fine."
Upon hearing this, the receptionist, with a face that seemed to say, "What a troublesome child," stepped back to call an appraiser.
"You didn't believe me at all, did you?"
"Yeah, but I'm going to show you!"
Neon's smile was that of a mischievous girl. Behind the returning receptionist stood a man in his thirties wearing glasses, who was likely the appraiser.
"So, how many did you bring?"
"Four."
"Four!?"
The receptionist exclaimed in surprise. I don't think it's that surprising.
"S-Sorry, but most people bring them in batches of a hundred..."
I see. If they can't be appraised, the only way to increase the chances is to bring a large number. It's almost like gambling.
The appraiser's face seemed to say, "This won't even be worth it."
"Excuse me... Oh!"
As soon as the appraiser started the appraisal, he let out a loud cry.
"T-They really are... W-White Opal Mushrooms!"
The appraiser was shocked. But the shock wasn't over yet.
"T-This one too! This one too! A-All of them, they're really White Opal Mushrooms!"
The appraiser was trembling from the shock. The receptionist, upon hearing this, also looked surprised.
"Really? No one has ever brought only Opal Mushrooms before."
"I can't believe it either. I thought it was a mistake and appraised them multiple times. But they are real."
He looked at us as if he were seeing something terrifying. The receptionist, who also couldn't believe it, stepped back and started calling another appraiser.
It's sad that they don't trust us.
But these are undoubtedly real. The second appraiser also confirmed they were real, and they finally believed us.
"Of course they are!"
Neon stood proudly.
"I am very sorry. Here is the purchase amount of 2,000,000G. The appraisal fee will be waived."
The receptionist bowed sincerely.
"It's fine, really."
She responded with a smile.
"That's amazing! Even though no one has figured out how to distinguish them, and they can only be identified through appraisal! Are you an appraisal expert?"
Sure enough, they asked. What should I do?
"He is a mushroom expert!"
Neon suddenly answered.
"A mushroom expert? Can you really tell the difference!?"
"That's a secret!"
Upon hearing this, the crowd began to murmur.
"He seems to be a mushroom expert."
"He can tell the difference between White Opal Mushrooms?"
"Maybe he's the real deal..."
"Wow... He must be a famous expert in the capital."
Neon's rumor spread quickly. This is how I ended up being recognized as a mushroom expert within the Merchant Guild.
After leaving the Merchant Guild, I handed over half of the 1,000,000G to Neon.
"For now, let's split it evenly."
"Is that okay? The plan was mine, but the one who did most of the work was Sibyl."
"If we create a gap, it will cause resentment later. Besides, without the plan, we wouldn't have gotten this money. It's a fair reward."
Upon hearing my words, Neon smiled.
"Thank you, Sibyl! I'm glad I met you, Sibyl!"
"Me too, Neon."
Thus, our first job was a success. That night, I couldn't sleep well due to the excitement from the life-risking adventure, but my heart felt somehow fulfilled.
