Chapter 8

3 min read658 words

The next day, Neon and I headed straight for Mount Semen. We asked Metis for directions and kept avoiding monsters as we climbed higher and higher. Mount Semen was a lush mountain surrounded by trees.

Since neither of us had much stamina, it could be described as harsh even without the monsters.

"Pretty soon, we should be near the white mushroom colony, which means we're close to the Gangaptera nest. Always be on guard for the Gangaptera."

Since we were close to the nest, I could sense the tension from Neon as well.

I prepared for various unforeseen circumstances, so it should be fine.

"Ah, I understand."

"Metis, are there any Gangaptera near the colony?"

"No."

"Will they return within an hour?"

"No."

"Will they return within five hours?"

"Yes."

When I asked in detail, it seemed they would return to the nest in about three hours.

"Neon, it looks like the Gangapteras will be away for about three hours. Let's search during that time."

"Got it."

Finally, we reached the white mushroom colony at the top of Mount Semen.

As far as the eye could see, the area was covered in white mushrooms. It was like a white carpet had been laid out. For several kilometers, all you could see were white mushrooms. Although I knew it was dangerous, it was a mysterious and somehow appealing sight.

"Sure, it's an amazing view, but let's start searching quickly."

"Alright, let's do it as planned."

Normally, finding one in ten thousand mushrooms would be impossible. But with my Metis! And I already have a plan.

Thus, we started drawing lines on the ground covered with mushrooms using sickles, creating a square about ten meters on each side.

"Is there a White Opal Mushroom in this frame?"

"Yes."

We hit the jackpot right away. A good start.

"It's in here. Divide it in half."

"Got it!"

Neon drew a line to divide the square into two rectangles. Then she moved to one of the rectangles.

"Is there a White Opal Mushroom in this frame?"

"No."

Since it's not in this frame, it must be in the other rectangle.

"Neon, it doesn't seem to be here. Divide the other side in half!"

The other rectangle was divided into two, creating two more squares, each a quarter of the original.

"Is there a White Opal Mushroom in this frame?"

"Yes."

We continued to narrow down the area where the White Opal Mushroom was located by halving it repeatedly. Eventually, we narrowed it down to about ten mushrooms.

Then we checked each one individually.

"Is this a White Opal Mushroom?"

"No."

"Is this a White Opal Mushroom?"

"No."

"Is this a White Opal Mushroom?"

"No."

"Is this a White Opal Mushroom?"

"No."

"Is this a White Opal Mushroom?"

"Yes."

Finally, we found it!

"Neon, I found it! It's a White Opal Mushroom!"

I held up the mushroom excitedly. Neon also smiled with a crinkled face when she saw it.

"Yay! We'll be rich now!"

Neon jumped around in joy. Being a little rich is more realistic.

"We still have time. Let's keep searching!"

"Leave it to me!"

Despite our excitement, we focused all our efforts on harvesting the White Opal Mushrooms. By the time we found the fourth one, more than two and a half hours had passed.

"Four of them will be worth 2,000,000G... hehe."

Neon smiled slyly at the White Opal Mushrooms. That's two hundred silver coins. For us, who are poor, it's a significant amount.

We still had a little time left, but what should we do?

While thinking about what to do next, I heard the sound of footsteps behind us.
