Chapter 99

Lambert, a large man in armor, steadily advanced through the mansion of the Viscount Lagar. Behind him, a trail of bloodstains formed. Of course, it wasn't his own blood. It was the blood of the Viscount Lagar's private soldiers, whom he had cut down as they attacked the intruder.
Lambert, who had been forced to take on the task of babysitting by the second captain of the Kingdom Audit Corps, "The Phoenix's Eye," Kroytz, had stormed into the Viscount Lagar's mansion as he had declared.
Three private soldiers stood in Lambert's path, their swords pointed at him. However, their sword tips were trembling. As Lambert cut down one soldier after another and approached, they understood. They knew they could never stop this mad swordsman.
At first, the three private soldiers had laughed at the reckless intruder. The inherently cowardly Viscount Lagar, since his contact with the "Flute Devil," had considered the possibility of being drawn into conflict and had expanded his private army and increased the mansion's security. They thought it was sheer folly for someone to storm in alone.
But all the guards had been cut down by Lambert's greatsword.
"What, what the hell is this monster!"
"Two of us, try to distract him! I'll kill him while he's distracted!"
"Y-Yes, Captain Sodom!"
The private soldier standing at the back shouted, and the two in front nodded, though they were trembling with fear.
"Where is Lagar? Hand him over. Lagar is a traitor. If you still wish to show loyalty to him, I will deal with you."
Lambert stated calmly.
"Don't make me laugh! We can't turn back now!"
The man standing at the back of the formation, called Sodom, shouted at Lambert. The two in front attacked him from the sides.
(No matter how strong you are... if attacked from three directions, there will be an opening. I have good eyes. I won't miss that opening...!)
Sodom, slightly behind the two, leaped at Lambert, looking for an opening from the front, his eyes wide as he tried to follow Lambert's movements.
(I became the captain of the Viscount Lagar's private army because of these eyes. You are strong, I admit. But there are ways for the weak to fight! Even if you cut one of us, I will cut you in the opening you leave!)
Suddenly, the image of Lambert's greatsword, which Sodom had been watching closely, disappeared.
(What, where...?)
In the next moment, a flash of the greatsword struck Sodom's chest. His bones shattered, and his flesh was severed.
(Wh-Why...)
As Sodom lost consciousness, he saw his two subordinates, cut vertically and diagonally, spraying blood from their wounds.
Lambert, continuing his relentless advance, entered the grand hall, where he was met by a line of soldiers. There were about forty in total. Among them stood a large, middle-aged man, almost as tall as Lambert, wielding a massive axe. He snorted lightly.
"I'm surprised. I heard there was a commotion, but to find it's just one man."
The large man with the axe was the deputy commander of the Viscount Lagar's private army, "The Battle Axe Ordon." He fought with a finely crafted great axe, but his fighting style was surprisingly sophisticated, unlike his brutish appearance and weapon. He would use his strength to corner his opponent while looking for openings and then deliver unexpected, decisive blows to ensure victory.
"Armored swordsman, did you take up the cause of the commoners? But storming the Viscount Lagar's mansion alone was a mistake, wasn't it?"
Ordon said, and the surrounding private soldiers mocked Lambert.
"You may be skilled, but you seem to lack brains."
"Did you really think you could break through our ranks head-on?"
"Your comrades gave you quite a rough time. I'll return it tenfold. Don't think you'll die easily."
Lambert glanced at the surrounding soldiers, then turned to look behind him. More soldiers who had been stealthily following him appeared from the rear.
"...You followed me inside without catching up, and I wondered what your aim was... But now I see. You were trying to surround me and increase the number of attackers to use your numerical advantage and cut off my escape."
"Exactly. It's a shame, armored swordsman. Brute strength alone won't save you."
Ordon said to Lambert. This encirclement was part of his strategy to deal with the intruder. Ordon was not only a top-tier fighter but also an intelligent tactician, skilled in both combat and strategy.
"Attack with all your might. It's good to try to boost morale, but don't play around. We'll be the ones killed."
Ordon ordered his subordinates.
"Y-Yes, Deputy Commander Ordon..."
"Give him no chance. I'd like to torture him to reveal his identity and master, but this man is too dangerous. Kill him for sure."
Ordon commanded calmly. He was a man of both strength and intelligence, and he never became overconfident. With this many men, he was certain they could overwhelm any opponent. But he didn't take any chances, leaving no room for the enemy to hope.
At Ordon's command, the soldiers attacked Lambert en masse. Ordon, seeing the intruder incident as resolved, snorted and turned away.
"Once he's dead, make sure to uncover his identity. Got it? His family will serve as an example..."
A loud crash echoed. The floor cracked, and several soldiers were sent flying by the sheer force.
The private soldiers were momentarily stunned, but they quickly recovered and, with a desperate resolve, the second wave charged at Lambert. Lambert's greatsword swung wildly, cutting through the floor and slicing through the soldiers' armor and bodies. Each swing was a deadly blow, taking lives one by one. The soldiers who were cut down were thrown back, their blood and flesh flying as they died.
When the second wave was cut down, the third wave of private soldiers could not move. Lambert calmly passed by the stunned Ordon and his men, advancing deeper into the mansion.
