After an unknown amount of time, Mou Chenfei slowly regained consciousness.

Her dazed eyes fluttered their long lashes, blinking a few times, before she realized she was not at home by the pool or on her imported breathable molecular composite material mattress. Instead, she was surrounded by a blue sky, white clouds, and tree branches.

The memories of what had happened before flooded back, causing her to panic so much that she even ignored the discomfort in her neck. She suddenly sat up, and the congestion in her throat worsened, leading to a sudden, violent urge to vomit, which made her start coughing. A finger, about two joints long, was expelled from her mouth!

If this had happened in the past, Mou Chenfei would have been terrified and screamed in shock. But now, she didn't even look at it, as if it were just a mouthful of phlegm. Although she had never directly spat out phlegm before, her first reaction was to check her clothes. The off-shoulder dress was dirty but still intact, even the hem was undamaged. The waist belt was neatly tied around her waist. Feeling through the dress... yes, the edge of the new modal underwear was really thin, almost imperceptible, but it was still in place!

More importantly, she didn't feel any discomfort in that area!

Her mind was greatly relieved. She wanted to lower her head to check her chest through the neckline of the dress, but then she felt something foreign around her neck. She reached up and touched a tube-like object. The pain... it wasn't very severe, at least not when swallowing, which immediately made her think of the knife wound before she lost consciousness.

Was this the result of that cut?

She was still a bit nervous. The air she breathed through her mouth and nose mixed with the air entering through the tube in her neck, causing some confusion, but it didn't stop her from standing up. She could stand smoothly, and her limbs were unharmed, with no bloodstains. Calming down, Mou Chenfei, who was indeed smart, quickly realized that apart from the cut in her throat, she had not been harmed at all. If she hadn't panicked and tried to bite the kidnapper, causing her to suffocate, she would have been completely unscathed. Looking back at the rolled-up work uniform on the ground, which had been used as a pillow... it was clear that the man had done all this.

Where was that man?

Mou Chenfei, with this question in mind, looked around. The terrifying scenes she vaguely remembered were gone, and the bodies that had fallen were nowhere to be seen. If it weren't for the strange, uncomfortable tube in her neck, Mou Chenfei would almost have doubted whether she was dreaming, both before and now.

But she urgently needed to find that person. She remembered this was an island, and he should still be on it. Without a boat, he couldn't have escaped!

So, with one hand gently supporting her neck, Mou Chenfei bent down to pick up the clothes, then carefully moved her feet to start searching. At the very least, she knew the men who had kidnapped her had been defeated by that man. She suddenly felt a strong confidence.

It wasn't hard to find him. Just a short distance away, among the trees, Mou Chenfei saw a small cement brick house. Inside, she could vaguely see boxes of mineral water and instant noodles. She quickly moved away, as the sight of the dirty, tattered straw mat bed made her shudder. Without that man, she would likely have been lying on it...

The sun was shining brightly outside, but if it weren't for... the evil under the sun was truly unimaginable. This thought made her panic again, and her steps quickened.

Then she saw a somewhat amusing figure squatting in the shallow water a few dozen meters away. The roots of a sparse forest were immersed in the water, and Bak, wearing only a white undershirt, had a piece of it torn off, making the shirt a bit shorter. He was holding a stick and slapping the water!

His appearance and actions were somewhat comical.

Mou Chenfei was drawn by the sound. As she approached, she wanted to call out, but the fabric she felt under her hand, which was holding her neck, was similar to the torn shirt she saw. She realized what was wrapped around her neck.

It was this man's undershirt?

Her first reaction was a bit of disgust!

But it immediately calmed her previous panic.

Bak turned his head slightly and said softly, "You got it out? I'll help you remove the tube later. It doesn't need to be stitched; it will heal on its own in no time."

Mou Chenfei didn't have time to say thank you. Her first words were, "Do you... have a mirror?" Her voice was a bit hoarse, which offset her usual coquettish tone.

Bak turned to look at the beautiful girl, really wanting to laugh out loud. For a woman like her, her appearance was probably her primary concern.

Actually, while Bak was mechanically slapping the water, he had thought about it. He was acting out of habit, as if he were treating a comrade in a battlefield situation.

He had overreacted a bit.

When the other soldiers, who had their heads tied with combat straps, were injured and needed treatment, they only needed a nod from Bak to understand what he was doing. The military doctors rarely spoke during treatment, unlike civilian doctors who would comfort the patients with words.

Would they even whisper, "It's nothing, it doesn't hurt..." while shrapnel was flying around?

Bak had to hold his rifle and treat the wounded while firing!

So, he had forgotten that a gentle word of comfort might have relaxed the girl's tense nerves and muscles before she suffocated, and then a simple external massage might have solved the problem.

Of course, that was just a possibility. Maybe she wouldn't have trusted him at all?

For Bak, such ambiguity was not allowed. In emergencies, he would only choose the most reliable and safest method. So, he felt at ease now and said, "No, but you can use the water as a mirror. Go a bit further, where the water is calmer."

Mou Chenfei thought it was a good idea and quickly walked to a calm part of the water, lifting her dress hem. Bak stopped slapping the water and leaned against a tree, watching her.

The reflection wasn't very clear, but her face was clean. Mou Chenfei hesitated and examined the water's surface before running back to pick up a bottle of mineral water with a loose cap. She tried to unscrew it but finally decided to take it to the water and silently handed it to Bak, indicating he should open it!

Even at this moment, she still maintained her usual ladylike attitude?

Bak found it a bit amusing, unscrewed the cap, and handed it back. He continued to watch as she carefully poured a little water on her face, gently dabbing and wiping, then her shoulders, and then her arms. She frowned at the dirty dress, and if she had a change of clothes, she would have thrown this one away. But now, she could only endure it, occasionally looking up at Bak and commanding, "Can you... help me remove it now?" She smiled formally, pointing to her neck, her tone calm but still somewhat condescending.

Bak didn't mind, nodded, and waded over. Mou Chenfei instinctively took a half-step back as he approached in his cheap, tattered shorts, then forced herself to stand still, gently trying to tilt her head back to make it easier for Bak to work, and also to avoid being too close to him or smelling his sweat.

Apart from the protruding tube that looked like a beer tap, the slender-necked girl was very attractive.

Bak mentally gave her a thumbs up!
