Chapter 5

The two watched as Li Haiying was directly killed, and their eyes revealed a sense of helplessness as they looked at the person who had taken action.

The person who acted was Situ Ping. Everyone knew he was silencing a witness, but the two were only outer disciples. With the person already dead, there was no evidence, and even if they could prove that he was the mastermind, for inner disciples, the death of a mountain armor beast was not a big deal.

"Feng Ping pays respects to Senior Brother Situ!"

"Jian Wei pays respects to Senior Brother Situ!"

Although the two guessed that Situ Ping had deliberately made Li Haiying sabotage to make them suffer, they had no choice but to bow their heads now.

Situ Ping, looking at the dead Li Haiying, said, "What kind of person did Haifu Tong recommend? To frame a subordinate, he would even dare to do such a thing. But you are quite good, managing to capture this mountain armor beast. You have the cultivation of the seventh level of the Qi Condensation stage, which is barely enough. Do you want to be the overseer?"

Lin Haoming didn't expect Situ Ping to suddenly ask if he wanted to be the overseer. Just a day ago, he was still worried about how to deal with Li Haiying's trouble, but now everything was completely reversed. However, Situ Ping was definitely not a good person, as evidenced by how he dealt with Li Haiying. But if he refused, he would likely face dire consequences.

But after some thought, Lin Haoming realized he had no conflict with Situ Ping. As for Zhou Zhiye, whom he originally intended to rely on, he had only heard his name and didn't know what kind of person he was. If he had the opportunity to advance and didn't seize it, that would be truly foolish.

After thinking it through, Lin Haoming immediately clasped his hands and said, "Thank you, Senior Brother Situ, for looking after me. Senior Brother Situ helped me get rid of Li Haiying, who wanted to frame me. I will definitely do my best as the overseer to repay you."

"Good, very good. I hope you are a smart person!" Situ Ping nodded in satisfaction at this statement.

After the others dealt with Li Haiying, Situ Ping, with a blank expression, asked, "What's your name?"

"Lin Haoming!" Lin Haoming answered truthfully.

Situ Ping seemed to have no memory of this descendant of the old ancestor and directly instructed, "You have a quarter of an hour to pack your things and follow me!"

Lin Haoming knew that becoming an overseer required registration. Since Situ Ping had agreed to this, he would naturally take care of the formalities. Moreover, the overseer would live in a different cave room.

Returning to the stone room where he had lived for several years, Lin Haoming quickly packed his belongings into a large bundle and slung it over his shoulder. When he was about to remove the spirit stone from the array's core, he suddenly noticed that the spirit stone still seemed to have ample spiritual energy.

Looking at the spirit stone, Lin Haoming realized that he hadn't changed it since he replaced it this month. His stone room's array had been almost always active, so it should have been depleted long ago. What was going on? Could it be related to his Spirit Gathering Pearl?

After some thought, Lin Haoming concluded that it must be related to his Spirit Gathering Pearl. But could it not only recharge him but also other spirit stones?

If that was the case, Lin Haoming suddenly saw a bright path to wealth and prosperity.

Of course, he didn't have time to study it in detail now. He couldn't keep Situ Ping waiting for too long. After putting away the spirit stone, he immediately ran out.

Outside, Situ Ping was already waiting for him. Without a word, he led the way down a tunnel.

After a short while, as they walked through the tunnel, Lin Haoming suddenly heard Situ Ping say, "Junior Brother Lin, I see you are a smart person. I don't care about your past with Li Haiying. Since I've made you the overseer, you are now my person. Do you understand this?"

"Senior Brother Situ, the position of overseer is given by you, and I will naturally repay you!" Lin Haoming replied with a smile.

"Hmm!" Situ Ping was somewhat satisfied with Lin Haoming's response and nodded slightly.

In his heart, Lin Haoming had already made a plan. Indeed, the position was given by him, and he would give him the usual tribute, but if he made him a scapegoat, he wouldn't blame him for turning against him.

After passing through the tunnel, they arrived at a larger cave.

The cliff walls of the cave had many stone rooms, which were clearly much larger than his previous residence and had a more concentrated spiritual energy. Although the difference was not significant, it would accumulate over time.

The cave had several tunnels leading outside, but the most eye-catching was a large stone room where several cultivators were gathered, all of whom were other overseers of the Futo Cave.

"Senior Brother Situ!" Seeing Situ Ping, the overseers, all at the eighth or ninth level of the Qi Condensation stage, immediately greeted him.

Situ Ping nodded slightly and then said to an old man with white hair, "Overseer Ma, the successor to Haifu Tong, Li Haiying, committed a crime and was dealt with by me. This is the new overseer. Register him!"

The overseer, Ma Gaofeng, had reached the peak of the Qi Condensation stage and was said to be over a hundred years old. Qi Condensation stage cultivators generally lived to be just over a hundred, so Ma Gaofeng was nearing the end of his life.

Many cultivators, after turning sixty and realizing they would not advance, would try to leave the Blood Refinement Sect to enjoy a life of luxury among mortals or find a partner to raise a family. But Ma Gaofeng had not left and had continued to serve as an overseer. His position was different from other overseers because he managed over twenty overseers.

Ma Gaofeng scanned Lin Haoming with his somewhat cloudy eyes and said indifferently, "Your cultivation is a bit low, but it's not easy to reach the seventh level of the Qi Condensation stage at your age. Even inner disciples are not much better. What's your name?"

"Lin Haoming!" Lin Haoming answered.

"Hmm?" Hearing Lin Haoming's name, Ma Gaofeng seemed to remember something and smiled slightly, "No wonder, no wonder!"

Lin Haoming knew that Ma Gaofeng must have recognized his identity but didn't say more. He took out a jade token from his storage bag, infused it with a bit of spiritual energy, and then threw it to Lin Haoming, "Regardless of your past, from now on, you are the overseer of the Futo Cave's mountain armor beast. Work hard, and you might have a chance. This jade token is your identity token. Activating it will allow you to enter your cave residence!"

Lin Haoming was somewhat surprised by Ma Gaofeng's encouragement but only took it as the kind words of an old man nearing the end of his life and thanked him.

Situ Ping didn't pay much attention to Lin Haoming, only instructing him to do his job well and to find him at his cave residence if there were any issues.

Lin Haoming understood that finding him would likely mean delivering tributes on time, not seeking help with problems, so he didn't take it too seriously.

As soon as Situ Ping left, a man who looked like a scholarly gentleman sneered, "A seventh-level Qi Condensation cultivator is now an overseer. Truly impressive!"
