Chapter 91

This is the part that was supposed to be updated yesterday.
The culprit who tore the dress was discovered far too easily.
"From what Gilbert had vaguely told me, ... it was you guys, huh?"
In the corner of the room used as a storage, they were crouching, looking up at Oscar and Gilbert, trembling. Orange paint was smeared on the soles of their feet.
The culprits were multiple.
A large, rich kid who seemed slow to move, a brainy guy with only high pride and strength, and a goldfish’s excrement who only used his cunning. Three in total.
Yes, they were the male students who had previously bothered Zweig.
"Probably out of resentment for what Cecil did to you before, right?"
"Do you even know who you’ve laid your hands on...?"
Under Oscar’s glare, who was deeply hurt by the damage to his precious fiancée, and Gilbert’s icy stare, the three huddled together and let out a pitiful cry, “Ah!”
"I knew you guys were stupid, but I didn’t think you were this thoughtless."
"Besides the petty harassment, you threw eggs, dropped potted plants, and poured hot water, right? And this time, even the stage costumes—"
"It wasn’t us!"
The large, rich kid—Derek—spoke up.
Then, the two on either side, Kelvin and Skitt, also chimed in.
"Y-Yeah! We did put dead bugs and dirty rags in his bag, and we did throw eggs! But we didn’t drop the potted plant! And it wasn’t us who tore the dress! We did plan to mess with the dress, but when we got there, it was already in that state!"
Oscar and Gilbert exchanged glances at the three’s words.
If they had denied everything, saying, “We didn’t do it! We have no idea!” it would have been more understandable. But “We did some of it, but not the rest!” seemed like a questionable excuse. It was a bit confusing.
"Besides, we wouldn’t do something dangerous like dropping a potted plant! Our motto is, ‘Hurt but don’t harm’!"
"We didn’t pour hot water either! If we were going to do it, we’d use water! You could get burned, it’s dangerous!!"
While that was questionable, it seemed they had their own rules for hurting people.
"But I heard you were waving knives at Cecil?"
"That’s just to scare him! The knife is like this!"
Kelvin touched the knife he took out from his pocket. The blade quickly retracted into the handle. —It was a trick knife.
"My grandpa started making these after he retired as the head of the family. If you apply force from the side, the blade stays out, but if you apply force from the top, the blade disappears. There’s no way you can hurt someone with this."
Saying that, Kelvin threw the knife he was holding at the two.
"Anyway, we kick, punch, and threaten, but we don’t cause injuries that leave marks!"
"We wouldn’t do anything that could kill someone!"
"Besides, what do you think of human life!"
"Actually, you guys aren’t that bad at heart, right?"
Oscar’s exasperated words made Derek exclaim, “What! We’re bad guys, for sure!” But he had no presence. They looked more like “adolescents who idolize bad guys” rather than actual bad guys.
Gilbert, fiddling with the knife he had just received, pondered.
"Assuming what they say is true, then who is the culprit who dropped the potted plant and tore the dress...?"
"Mr. Gilbert, Mr. Oscar! Where are you!"
At that moment, Grace’s voice, almost a scream, came from the hallway. When the two showed their faces, Grace, who had noticed them, rushed over anxiously. Behind her were Lean and Ein.
"Is something wrong?"
"By the way, what happened to Cecil?"
Oscar’s question was answered by Ein, who was standing behind. His face was pale, and his eyes were small and trembling.
"Zweig...?"
"Huh?"
"Zweig was pretending to be me and... hurting Cecil—"
