Chapter 13 of 100
Chapter 13: Ambiguous Friction
17 min read4,169 words
The Crown car would stop after driving for a while. Li Yi asked, "Hey, are you a new driver?"
Jin Ming nodded embarrassedly and said, "Yes. I'm not familiar with the route, so I have to keep an eye on the road. By the way, are you going back to school?"
Li Yi thought his leg was almost fully recovered and just nodded. Seeing her glance at the road signs and cautiously press the pedals, he felt his heart leap to his throat and quickly said, "Let me drive. At this rate, you'll end up in an accident."
Jin Ming didn't think much of it. In her mind, this man was already all-powerful, so driving a car was nothing special.
Li Yi stretched his legs over to take over from Jin Ming and said, "Come over here quickly."
Jin Ming was surprised and asked, "We're not stopping?"
Li Yi said disdainfully, "Why stop! When I was street racing, you hadn't even learned to drive yet!" Suddenly realizing he had let something slip, he quickly covered up, "Hurry up! Don't dawdle."
Fortunately, Jin Ming didn't think much of it. She bent down and stood up, and Li Yi moved his buttocks to squeeze past her from behind. But the space was limited, and for a moment, they were stuck.
Jin Ming was wearing a professional suit with a very short skirt. When she bent over, half of her provocative thigh crease was exposed. Li Yi, whose view was blocked by Jin Ming, quickly called out, "Sit down quickly, I can't see the road."
Just as he was relieved, a strong flashlight beam suddenly illuminated the front, blinding him. Li Yi hit the brakes and saw a traffic police officer holding a flashlight in one hand and a wolf dog taller than a person in the other, staring at him intently.
"Traffic check! Pull over to the side of the road," the police officer said, relaxing his guard when he saw who was inside.
Li Yi obediently followed the officer's instructions, parked the car, and got out.
He then realized they had already reached the Xiangjiang Bridge. The police had set up a checkpoint here, possibly to ensure the safety of the Steel Summit. Besides this officer, there were seven or eight others, who had already stopped four or five cars for inspection. There were also police cars nearby, indicating a joint operation.
"How do you drive? On such a straight Xiangjiang Avenue, you drive it like a mountain road!" The young officer was quite humorous.
"I..."
"License!"
"None!" Li Yi answered honestly.
At this moment, a police officer in front loudly said, "I don't care if you're a section chief or the deputy director of the municipal hall. If you break the law while driving, I'm in charge!"
Li Yi was surprised and looked over. Sure enough, it was Liu Mingming and a middle-aged man who bore a resemblance to him, likely his father, the deputy director of the municipal government's office.
Liu Yiyang was truly furious. Normally, he could command the wind and rain, and he was quite capable. Who would have thought that this young police officer would refuse to give him any face? So what if he had a little to drink and drove a bit fast? What was so terrible about it? He hadn't even hit anyone!
On the other side, Liu Mingming, bored, looked around and spotted Li Yi, immediately shooting him a hateful glance.
Li Yi felt innocent, having gained a powerful enemy for no reason.
The police officer continued, "Did you drink?"
Li Yi nodded honestly, "A little." The smell of alcohol was still strong in his mouth, so he decided to be straightforward.
Jin Ming walked over and pleaded in a sweet voice, "Officer, this is a Liansteel car. Please let us go. We'll treat you to a meal another day."
Women's methods were effective. The young man's tone immediately softened, and he made a helpless gesture, "No choice. No one wants to check cars this late, but we have orders from above."
Liu Mingming, seeing Jin Ming with Li Yi, felt even more jealous.
Liu Yiyang was pacing anxiously, saying all sorts of things, but the young officers were unmoved. Liu Yiyang took out his business card and gave it to the two officers, whispering, "Take my card. If you need anything in the future, I'll help you."
The officers shook their heads and pushed the card back, indicating they were powerless with their superiors watching.
Hearing that there were superiors, Liu Yiyang felt relieved and looked over. Sure enough, a SUV was parked nearby, and a middle-aged man was leaning against it, smoking leisurely and gazing at the hazy city night sky, not even glancing their way.
Seeing this man, Liu Yiyang felt like he had found a savior and ran over happily, "Captain Chen! Oh, it's really you. Working this late at night, you must be tired!"
The man was Deputy Captain Chen Xiang of the Municipal Traffic Police. Seeing Liu Yiyang, he quickly shook his hand and smiled, "What wind brought you here, Director Liu?"
Liu Yiyang smiled, "Oh, we're old friends. We haven't met in a long time. Let's find a time to get together with Erzi and the others."
Chen Xiang and Liu Yiyang, along with Erzi, were from the same village and often kept in touch.
Liu Yiyang explained the situation, and Chen Xiang waved his hand, "This is nothing. I'll take care of it. Come, I'll talk to them. They'll give me some face."
He spoke politely, but these were his loyal subordinates. They were out on duty today partly for the task and partly to make some extra money for a good meal.
Hearing this, Liu Yiyang was overjoyed, and the two walked over, chatting and laughing.
When Chen Xiang spoke, the police officers naturally let Liu Yiyang go.
Liu Yiyang tightly held Chen Xiang's hand, shaking it repeatedly.
Seeing the savior, Liu Mingming immediately became arrogant and whispered to Chen Xiang, "Uncle Chen, do me a favor. That guy over there is my rival. Help me teach him a lesson."
Hearing it was a rival, Chen Xiang chuckled, "You little rascal! Just like your father! Alright, I'll take care of this for you. Want to come and watch the fun?"
Liu Mingming, naturally, was eager to do so and said to Liu Yiyang, "Dad, I'll be right back."
