Chapter 14: The Performer Lu Jun

Back in the provincial capital, Li Yi's life became increasingly fulfilling.

Fang Fang had her eye on a building in the city and bought a large four-bedroom, two-living room house. Li Yi thought it was unnecessary to buy such a big house; with just the two of them, a larger house would only make it feel cold and empty. But Fang Fang insisted, "What if the family comes to visit? At least they'll have a place to sleep, right?"

Li Yi finally understood his mother's good intentions, thinking that since they weren't short of money, he might as well let her spend it as she pleased! Indeed, during the renovation of the new house, Fang Fang proposed going back to the countryside. She said, "I keep having dreams at night, dreaming of the elders at home and the osmanthus tree in front of the house. It's the season when the osmanthus blooms; it must be the tree spirit calling me back home!"

Li Yi thought, "What tree spirit? Clearly, you miss home." "Alright, I'm quite busy these days. You go back first, and I'll come when I have time."

"No way," Fang Fang stubbornly said, "You must go back with me!"

"Mom, you know I have a job now. I can't keep taking leave, or it will leave a bad impression on my superiors, and I won't have a future! Besides, I'm busy with a survey right now and can't leave. Why don't you wait for me to go back together, or you can go first?"

"Alright, I'll go first, but you must come back!" Fang Fang reminded him.

Li Yi comforted Fang Fang, then went down from the rental building, walked along the wide and clean avenue, and entered Southern University, where he found Guo Xiaoling.

Guo Xiaoling was engrossed in a book. She looked up unexpectedly and saw Li Yi standing there with a smile on his face. A look of surprise flashed across her face, but it quickly turned cold, and she pretended not to see him, continuing to read.

"Xiaoling, what's wrong? Don't you recognize me?" Li Yi chuckled, moved his buttocks, and sat down on her desk.

"Hey!" Guo Xiaoling quickly gathered her book.

"Wow! Reading Qiong Yao, huh? Haha, feeling melancholic and sentimental?" Li Yi laughed.

"I'm not talking to you!" Guo Xiaoling pouted.

"Then I'll leave!" Li Yi made a show of getting up.

"Hey! How's your job going?" Guo Xiaoling, seeing that he was really about to leave, felt a bit reluctant.

"It's going well. Just very busy, too busy to come see you, my girlfriend." Li Yi said softly.

"Die! Everyone is watching. Who's your girlfriend?"

"That day, didn't we... kiss? Haha, doesn't that count?" Li Yi said, leaning in.

Guo Xiaoling blocked him with a book: "And you haven't come to see me for so long? Humph! You don't even think of me! Did you go to a hotel with your singing star beauty again?"

"I wanted to come to a hotel with you." Li Yi chuckled.

"Hey! Li Yi is back, what a rare guest!" Zhu Feng and Bi Zhengguang came in, hugging each other, and greeted Li Yi.

Li Yi whispered in Guo Xiaoling's ear, "At 5:30 PM, at the school gate, no excuses." He then extended his hand and hugged Zhu Feng, "Brother, it's been so long, I missed you so much!"

Zhu Feng pulled Li Yi aside with Bi Zhengguang and whispered, "Li Yi, you need to hurry. Someone is after Guo Xiaoling."

Li Yi laughed dismissively, "Really?"

"Look, he's coming again!" Bi Zhengguang pouted and pointed.

A tall, fair-skinned boy walked down the corridor, with a 3-7 hairstyle, a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers, looking sunny and handsome.

Li Yi asked casually, "Who's that? He looks so arrogant! He walks with the wind!"

"You don't recognize him?" Zhu Feng laughed, "He's a big shot at Southern University, the president of the student council, Lu Jun!"

"Lu Jun!" Li Yi's pupils instantly contracted.

Lu Jun walked into the classroom and approached Guo Xiaoling's desk, smiling, "Xiaoling, there's a movie tonight. I've reserved two front-row seats. Let's go together?"

"I'm not going. Why are you here again?" Guo Xiaoling replied coldly.

"Xiaoling, come on, it's a big Jackie Chan movie, 'City Hunter.' I heard it's really good!" Lu Jun smiled warmly, undeterred by her rejection.

"Oh, is that so? How many tickets do you have? I have nothing to do, so I'll take my girlfriend to see it." Li Yi's smiling face appeared in front of Lu Jun.

"Who are you?" Lu Jun, though he had heard of Li Yi, was meeting him for the first time.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Li Yi."

"Li Yi!" Lu Jun's smile vanished, but in an instant, it returned even bigger, "Great, it's a rare opportunity for Li Yi to give me this chance. How many tickets do you need?"

"More won't help. One for each student and teacher in the school, I guess." Li Yi chuckled.

"Ha ha, you're so funny!" Lu Jun frowned, but his smile remained, "Here, take two tickets. Take your girlfriend. But the front rows are taken, only the back rows are left."

"The back rows are fine. We can do things that others shouldn't see. The point of being a couple isn't the movie, right?" Li Yi smiled mischievously.

Lu Jun's expression clearly faltered. He hadn't expected the Li Yi he had heard so much about, the Li Yi he had subconsciously seen as a rival, to be like this.

Isn't that a bit too low?

"Really? Who's your girlfriend? I bet she's a campus beauty from some department, right?" Lu Jun asked with a hint of sarcasm.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce her. Guo Xiaoling, my girlfriend!" Li Yi stared into his eyes, not blinking.

"Really?" Lu Jun, embarrassed, wanted to flee, but he quickly regained his composure, shrugged, and smiled, "Oh, it's Xiaoling. I'm really sorry, I didn't know! I even took her out for a Western meal and gave her flowers and gifts last time!"

As Li Yi had expected, his face changed, and he looked at Guo Xiaoling.

Guo Xiaoling was about to defend herself when Lu Jun smiled again, "But, a good bird chooses its tree, and a good woman chooses her husband. Before Xiaoling gets married, we both have an equal chance! Xiaoling, what do you think?"

Although it was self-study time, the classroom was still filled with many studious students. They all put down their books and gathered to watch the drama unfold.

Guo Xiaoling stood up, angry, "Lu Jun! Please leave. Li Yi is my boyfriend, for this life and the next! You will never have a chance!"

Lu Jun's face was torn to shreds and trampled on!

If it were Li Yi, he might have gone berserk or attacked! But Lu Jun had excellent self-control. He smiled slightly, gently placed two movie tickets on Guo Xiaoling's desk, and said, "You two, really? Can't take a joke? I've long admired Li Yi, how could I not know you're a couple? Ha ha, I just came to deliver the movie tickets."

"Uh!" Li Yi watched Lu Jun, watching his performance, his composure, his adaptability. He thought, such a person, if he doesn't go into politics, it would be a waste of talent!
