Yamazaki Shoji's friend, Iwata Daisaburo's residence, was a large Western-style villa.
The villa had a considerable garden, with cobblestone paths, green lawns, flower beds, trees, ponds, and statues, among other things. In short, this villa, in Japan, could be considered a genuine luxury mansion.
It was still only afternoon, and the time for the evening banquet had not yet arrived.
Yamazaki Shoji took Shu Yunwen to Iwata Daisaburo's bedroom to meet the owner of the villa.
Iwata Daisaburo was an elderly man in his early sixties, with a slim build, sitting in a wheelchair, and one leg in a cast.
According to Yamazaki Shoji's explanation, Iwata Daisaburo's leg had been injured in an accident and had not recovered well, so he still used a wheelchair. Moreover, Yamazaki Shoji mentioned that recently, there had been strange "ding-dong" sounds in the villa, and the servants had investigated but found nothing, which made Iwata somewhat afraid.
This was the main reason why Yamazaki Shoji, this good friend, wanted to get a "spirit charm" for Iwata Daisaburo.
Unlike Yamazaki Shoji, Iwata Daisaburo did not trust so-called "exorcists," and after a few polite exchanges, he said he had some matters to attend to and asked Yamazaki Shoji and Shu Yunwen to make themselves at home.
After leaving Iwata's bedroom, Yamazaki Shoji immediately apologized to Shu Yunwen: "Mr. Shu, I am truly very sorry. Iwata was a bit too rude. Please do not be angry."
Shu Yunwen shook his head indifferently and then said, "Please do not worry, Mr. Yamazaki. Also, if you have some free time, could you please accompany me around the villa? We might find something."
"Of course," Yamazaki agreed.
"Thank you for your trouble," Shu Yunwen thanked him, while inwardly complaining about the overly complicated etiquette in Japan.
As he muttered, Shu Yunwen chanted a witchcraft spell, and a few seconds later, a witchcraft spell was cast, making his eyes seem to be covered with a thin mist. He looked around the surroundings.
Witchcraft, Ghost Eye!
This witchcraft, like the curse of bad luck, was a beginner-level skill, a trick of the witch. Its main ability was to see ghosts and spirits.
In witchcraft, "Ghost Eye" was considered one of the least useful spells for a witch.
Because, once a witch became a novice, they naturally had the ability to see spirits without expending any witch power, and could turn it on or off at will, without needing to specifically open a "Ghost Eye." Of course, for ordinary people, "Ghost Eye" was like having temporary spirit vision, which was quite effective.
Shu Yunwen had been practicing witchcraft for not long, and his body was not much different from an ordinary person's, without the ability to see spirits, so he could only cast "Ghost Eye" on himself to facilitate observation.
With Yamazaki Shoji leading the way, the two wandered around the villa and found a wild cat's soul that was about to dissipate. As for other things, they found nothing.
The wild cat's soul, which was about to dissipate, posed no threat and could be blown away by a normal person's breath. It certainly could not cause trouble in the villa. Therefore, Shu Yunwen thought that this time it was not a ghost causing trouble but rather a human factor. As for why it could not be found... that was not his concern.
In the lounge, Yamazaki Shoji's attitude was a bit more respectful than before: "Mr. Shu, have you found anything?"
Shu Yunwen's eyes were still covered with a thin mist, making Yamazaki Shoji feel that he had become much more mysterious.
"No," Shu Yunwen shook his head. "The strange things in this villa are probably not related to any 'strange things.' It might just be someone accidentally making some noise..."
"I see..." Yamazaki Shoji was disappointed.
Seeing Yamazaki Shoji's reaction, Shu Yunwen rolled his eyes—this guy was crazy! Wasn't it better to have no ghosts than to have ghosts? If there were really some powerful spirits or evil spirits in the villa, Shu Yunwen might not be able to deal with them...
After a brief conversation, Yamazaki Shoji left, and Shu Yunwen rested in the room until evening, when the banquet finally began.
At the banquet, Shu Yunwen ate some food and then some people came over to chat.
"Hello, Mr. Kekin, I never expected you to be here tonight." This was a beautiful middle-aged woman, who was very respectful.
Hearing this, Shu Yunwen knew that she had mistaken him for his adoptive father, Shu Kekin.
"Excuse me, ma'am. My name is Shu Yunwen, and my father, Shu Kekin, is already dead."
"Is that so?" The middle-aged woman was very disappointed and surprised. "But your face..."
Shu Yunwen explained, "Because of my exorcism practice, I look a bit older, but I will recover in the future."
After dismissing one person, another approached, still very respectful: "Hello, Mr. Kekin, I never expected to meet you here. Some people say you are already dead..."
"My father is indeed dead. My name is Shu Yunwen, please take care of me. The reason my face looks so old is because of my exorcism practice, but I will recover in the future."
"Is that so? I apologize."
In a short while, Shu Yunwen dismissed six people, each leaving a business card. These were likely part of Shu Kekin's network.
"Mr. Shu, were those people your father's friends?" Yamazaki Shoji appeared from somewhere.
Shu Yunwen nodded, "Yes, Mr. Yamazaki, they all mistook me for my father."
"That's understandable," Yamazaki Shoji smiled. "After all, Mr. Shu, you do look a lot like Mr. Kekin."
After chatting for a few moments, Yamazaki Shoji suddenly looked at his watch, "I'm sorry, Mr. Shu, I have some other matters to attend to, so I must take my leave."
"Mr. Yamazaki, you are too polite, please do as you please."
After Yamazaki Shoji left, Shu Yunwen stayed in the banquet hall for a while, then left and asked a servant to prepare a room and not to disturb him until Yamazaki Shoji left—yes, he still had some homework to write.
The life of a hardworking student.
Just as he finished his homework, Shu Yunwen heard the sound of police sirens outside the room.
Looking out the window, he saw people getting out of police cars and hurriedly entering the villa.
Shu Yunwen was taken aback, opened the door, and waved to a servant in the hallway, "Hello, is something happening? I saw police cars from the window..."
"Oh? Hello, sir." The servant bowed quickly. "Yes, an incident has occurred. A guest seems to have been killed."
"Someone died?" Shu Yunwen's eyes lit up. "Take me to see it quickly."
The servant shook his head, refusing, "No, no. The police have ordered that no one is to approach the scene before they do."
Well, that is a common request from the police.
To protect the scene and the evidence!
"Hmm..." Shu Yunwen shook his head helplessly, chanted a witchcraft spell again, and used "Ghost Eye" to search the villa.
About two minutes later, Shu Yunwen successfully found the room where the body was, and the area was already cordoned off by the police.
Not far away, Iwata Daisaburo, sitting in a wheelchair, looked devastated and angry, "Inspector Megure, please catch the murderer and avenge my good friend Yamazaki!"
Yamazaki?
Shu Yunwen was taken aback and asked a bystander, "Hello, do you know who was killed?"
"Ah! I heard it was the general manager of Hachiro Bank, Mr. Yamazaki Shoji..."
The one killed was really Yamazaki Shoji?
"Move! Move! Let me in! Let me in!" At this moment, a voice came from outside, and a few seconds later, a young man in blue pushed his way through, turning his head and seeing Shu Yunwen, he was surprised, "Mr. Shu? Why are you here?"
"Why can't I be here? Kudo-kun? Uh..."
Shu Yunwen smiled, then suddenly paused, as if he had thought of something—
Wait! This scene doesn't feel right!
The detective Kudo Shinichi, the perennial sidekick Inspector Megure, Iwata Daisaburo in the wheelchair with a broken leg, and the victim, Yamazaki Shoji, the general manager of Hachiro Bank...
What the heck? This feels like the opening case of Detective Conan!
The murderer, it seems, is...
Shu Yunwen's gaze shifted to Iwata Daisaburo, who was still sitting in the wheelchair, looking devastated.
Hmm...
This guy's acting is pretty good!
PS: Yamazaki's identity is revealed.
Yes, this guy is the one who was killed at the beginning, the one who didn't even get a death photo...
