Chapter 2: Adding Insult to Injury

3 min read748 words

Mrs. Qin pointed at Lady Xie and said, "Second Madam, you take Lady Pan and the others to settle the children first. Lady Wang and Lady Mei will attend to the delivery room. Once everything is settled, come back to help."

"Yes, Mother."

Qin Liuxi instructed Chen Pi to lead the people to settle in, while she and Qi Huang moved Lady Gu to the prepared delivery room. At this moment, she felt a headache coming on.

She usually preferred a quiet life and didn't like going out, so the old house didn't have many servants. Only Qi Huang and her brother were with her, and the house had the Li family, a total of four people. Aunt Li and her daughter, Xiaoxue, managed the kitchen and some miscellaneous tasks, while Uncle Li and a young man named Li Cheng handled everything from managing the household to guarding the gate.

With few masters in the old house and Qin Liuxi not liking to cause a fuss, these few people were enough. However, with more people now, things were a bit chaotic.

They hurriedly placed Lady Gu on the makeshift delivery bed, and Qin Liuxi glanced at her, feeling a chill in her heart.

In just a short while, the dark aura on this third aunt's face had become even more pronounced, and it was uncertain whether she would survive this ordeal.

She looked at her large belly and felt her wrist; it was a twin pregnancy.

This was truly adding insult to injury.

Qin Liuxi took off the jade pendant hanging from her waist, tied it to Lady Gu's collar, and glanced at Qi Huang, who had returned. She didn't say anything, and Qi Huang left again.

When the others, including Mrs. Qin, saw this action, they were all taken aback and looked at Qin Liuxi.

Qin Liuxi remained calm and said, "This is a jade ruyi, which has been blessed and empowered to ensure the safe delivery of the third aunt's children."

Mrs. Qin's expression softened, and her eyes showed a glimmer of hope.

Lady Wang, who had been holding Lady Gu, Qin Liuxi's biological mother, said, "Xier, you are thoughtful. Your third aunt will surely have a safe delivery."

Although she said this, seeing the weak person on the bed and thinking about the recent changes in the family, the worry in Lady Wang's eyes deepened.

When Qi Huang returned to the guest room with a small box, she saw everyone with worried faces and quietly walked to Qin Liuxi's side, standing there obediently.

Because of Qin Liuxi, she didn't have much affection for the Qin family, but they had come suddenly and were in a dire situation. Moreover, there was a young woman who was clearly going into premature labor. Even if she didn't like them, she wouldn't add to their troubles.

"Has the midwife not arrived yet?" Mrs. Qin was getting anxious, looking at the door several times.

Qin Liuxi's voice was cold and clear, "It's raining outside, and the roads are not good. We asked for her suddenly, so she might not be at home. It might take some time."

Mrs. Qin's lips tightened even more.

As they were talking, a few people came in from outside. They were the second madam of the Qin family, Lady Xie, and two concubines, one of whom was Qin Liuxi's birth mother, Lady Wan.

Upon entering the room, Lady Wan's gaze immediately fell on Qin Liuxi.

Qin Liuxi also looked at her, and their eyes met.

Lady Wan scrutinized her, her eyebrows furrowing with dissatisfaction and confusion.

This daughter, who was born as a ball of flesh, had grown up to be so plain. If it weren't for her long hair, she might as well be a nun.

Qin Liuxi sighed inwardly. Her birth mother was over thirty and had two children, yet her face was still soft and fair. Even without makeup, she looked no less beautiful, like an eighteen-year-old girl, pure and alluring.

Looking at her simple attire, her figure was well-defined, and she was truly a beautiful concubine, one who was favored.

It seemed she had not suffered much in the Qin family. Not only had she not suffered, but she had lived well, so well that she had forgotten she had a daughter.

Qin Liuxi bowed slightly, "Concubine."

Lady Wan opened her mouth, "You are a bit ugly, unlike me and your brother."
