Yeonhwa, who was sitting at the kitchen table, helping AhnSeong with the bean sprouts. AhnSeong pulled the bean sprouts away and looked at Yeonhwa’s bandaged hand and said with a concerned voice.
“Now I’ll do the rest. Madam should take a rest.”
“It’s boring to rest. Let me do this.”
“I’m afraid your hand will hurt even more after helping me.”
“It’s okay.”
As the doctor said, the bones were really well attached, and even if Yeonhwa used her wrist and fingers frequently, it would be okay. When she sat face to face with AhnSeong and almost finished the bean sprouts, suddenly the doorbell rang. Since there were no
known appointments, Yeonhwa turned to AhnSeong with a curious face.
“Is someone supposed to come?”
“No, there is not. Who could it be?”
AhnSeong walked out to the living room and checked the intercom on the wall. Then she came back to the kitchen with a worried expression and told Yeonhwa.
“The chairwoman is here.”
Yeonhwa pushed the chair and stood up, then walked to the sink.
“Please open the door.”
“Yes Madam.”
After pressing the door open button on the intercom’s screen, AhnSeong ran back into the hallway. Yeonhwa, who had finished washing her hands in the sink, came out to the living room with a calm expression and greeted Youngsook.
“You are here.”
Youngsook didn’t even respond and sat down on the couch and ordered AhnSeong.
“Bring me some water with ice.”
At Youngsook’s coercive tone, AhnSeong straightened her back and headed to the kitchen immediately. Yeonhwa took over the tray when AhnSeong brought up a glass of water on the wooden tray.
“I will do it.”
AhnSeong’s hand holding the tray was trembling because of nervousness. It seemed that she still hadn’t forgotten the experience with Youngsook‘s last unannounced visitation. Knowing that, Yeonhwa decided to do it herself. She knew clearly how Youngsook would act if AhnSeong made a mistake.
Yeonhwa put down the tray in front of Youngsook and sat on the sofa across from her. Youngsook, who picked up the glass of water, took a sip and laid it down roughly, then stared at Yeonhwa’s right hand.
“Is your hand still not healed?”
“No. Not yet.”
For some reason, Youngsook leaned back on the sofa while making a ridicule.
“When did the doctor say you will get better?”
“He said it would take a little longer.”
“He is a very strange doctor. He told me that you are all well today, and now you tell me it would take longer.”
Yeonhwa’s big eyes, which had been hardened, shook. She trembled and could not say anything. A stern look appeared on Youngsook’s face, where even the ridicule disappeared.
“One of you is lying. Is it you or the doctor?”
Youngsook had already come to know everything. Yeonhwa never thought that Youngsook would ever see her medical records. Although accessing medical records is against the medical law, it was not difficult for Youngsook to obtain it.
“Did you really lose your memory? How dare you trick me?”
Suddenly, Youngsook picked up the glass and threw the water toward Yeonhwa. The ice water in the glass struck Yeonhwa’s face, and to make matters worse, ice that was as hard as stones struck her injured forehead. Yeonhwa, who grabbed her forehead, groaned, but Youngsook only snorted.
“Did you really think I wouldn’t know your intentions? Your hand is all healed but lied about it. You’re the only one who can lie like that. You’re doing it because you don’t want to sleep with my son, aren’t you?”
The reason Yeonhwa kept wearing the bandages was just because she didn’t want to divorce Geonwoo. However, since she couldn’t reveal the fact to Youngsook, Yeonhwa chose to shut her mouth.
“What’s so precious about your body that you had to lie to save it?!”
Yeonhwa, who had been trembling with her frustrated lips, took her hand off her forehead, apologized. However, she knew a word of apology could not calm down Youngsook’s angry spirit.
“Before the accident, I was ready for you and Geonwoo to have a baby. Just remember that. If you can’t remember, engrave it in your head. You just need to have a baby. That’s what Geonwoo also wants, and I also hope. Of course you too.”
All Yeonhwa was hoping for was to get one more attention from her husband. She couldn’t even dare dream about having a baby. Geonwoo, too, never wanted a baby. If he had hoped for a baby, Yeonhwa would have given her body even if she didn’t get his love. Youngsook was the only one who eagerly wanted the baby.
“You need to give me an answer.”
Youngsook demanded an answer from Yeonhwa, who had kept her mouth shut. She didn’t know if it was tears or water fell hard on her lips, but her voice started to tremble.
‘’.. Okay. “
After hearing Yeonhwa’s answer, Youngsook got up from her seat, and left the living room with a quick breeze. When she heard the door closing over the corridor, Yeonhwa exhaled violently. AhnSeong ran to the side of Yeonhwa, who pressed her eyelids tightly because her eyes were sore.
“Madam, are you okay?”
After seeing Yeonhwa’s face was all wet, AhnSeong ran to the kitchen to get a towel. Water at the end of Yeonhwa’s hair bangs dripping over her knees. Worriedly, AhnSeong knelt on the floor and looked at Yeonhwa’s face.
“Oh, what can I do! Blood!”
The ice that flew to Yeonhwa’s face was causing the wound to open, and blood was spilling under the bandage. Yeonhwa, who took the towel, said with a bleeding forehead.
“It’s okay.”
“It’s bleeding, how is it okay? Madam has lost your memory is already hard enough, the chairwoman is too much.”
AhnSeong felt sad as if she understood Yeonhwa’s hardship . Yeonhwa, with a bitter smile, stood up from the sofa and said.
“Don’t tell my husband.”
“I have to tell him this. Madam got hurt.”
Youngsook often came to the house and struck a riot. However, each time she left a wound on Yeonhwa with her words, it was the first time she injured Yeonhwa with her actions. Yeonhwa didn’t want anyone to worry so she decided to keep it a secret.
“It’s just a little bit of a wound.”
“Madam, I think your husband would be worried.”
“Please. I am okay.”
When Yeonhwa said she was okay, AhnSeong had no choice but to withdraw. After entering the bedroom, Yeonhwa locked the door and sat in front of the dressing table. When she removed the towel, fortunately, the bleeding was stopped and the wound did not bleed any more. She took out the first aid kit from the chest of drawers, put it on the dressing table, and removed the band stained with blood from her forehead. Yeonhwa, who crumpled the bandage and held it in her hand, captured the bloody wound in her eyes.
Youngsook’s words, which still remained in her ears, again pained her heart. She held her fists tight and held back her tears, but the tears that circulated in her eyes fell. Before the accident, Yeonhwa already heard Youngsook’s hurtful words countless times, but today, Yeonhwa’s heart was torn. She knew well that Youngsook wouldn’t treat her as a person, but just a machine that would give birth to her great-grandchildren. Yeonhwa exhaled for a long time and quickly stopped tearing.
The clock was pointing to 7 o’clock. She was afraid Geonwoo could see her wound, so she quickly covered it. However, she was most afraid Geonwoo would know all this. If she could, she only wanted to endure the pain herself. From the beginning to the end, she only thought of Geonwoo.
