Chapter 6: The Slave Child

■■■■■■■■■■

I understood my situation. It seems I was reborn as a slave child.

A woman in tattered clothes tried to feed me her breast milk, but she was clearly emaciated, and hardly any milk came out.

I tried my best to suck, but no milk came. Sucking consumed energy, and my stomach kept getting emptier. I was in a bind.

On the right breast of this mother, there was a ★-shaped mark. It was quite faded, but as I sucked desperately, I kept looking at it.

Now, I was suddenly facing a life-threatening situation. Without milk, I couldn't survive. What should I do? What can I do?

"Sorry, no milk is coming out..."

The woman, who I assumed was my mother, had tears in her eyes and was apologizing.

Her words showed affection for me. My parents in my previous life were no good, but in this life, I seemed to have found a good mother.

However, I was extremely hungry. If I didn't do something, I would really die. I would be stuck before I could level up.

"Au au au (I'm so hungry...)"

If things continued like this, I would really die. I needed to break this situation.

As I tried to think of something, I remembered.

—Skill: Conversion.

Conversion Level 1: Can convert one substance into another.

Could I use this skill to produce food?

I was lying in a shed.

There was straw, a board I was lying on, and farming tools scattered around.

If only I could turn the straw next to me into food.

I recalled the meals from my previous life. When I lived with my parents, I ate bread crusts and relied on school lunches to stave off hunger. After being taken in by a children's home, I occasionally got meat. It was so nice...

It was probably cheap meat, but I still remember how delicious it was.

"Au au au (Turn into delicious meat...)"

Something was being pulled out of my body. It felt awful. I was extremely fatigued.

But the straw had turned into roasted meat!

Checking my status, I saw that my five mana points had dropped to zero.

It seems using the skill reduced my mana.

I was losing consciousness...

I woke up hungry. I thought, "Now, I'll eat the meat!" but my mother was already eating it.

Ah, yeah. Of course, I wasn't the only one who was hungry.

"Delicious..."

My mother was eating the meat with tears in her eyes. Seeing her like that, I wanted to let her eat more.

However, I was also very hungry. I couldn't use the skill in front of my mother, so I had to wait for her to leave.

My mother left after trying to feed me her breast milk, which hardly produced any.

Finally, a chance with no one around!

Checking my status, my mana had recovered to five.

I immediately converted the straw into meat.

"Au au (I'm so sleepy...)"

I lost consciousness again.

When I woke up, my mother was eating the meat again.

Come on...

"Au au au (That's mine...)"

Then I realized something. I was a baby. Even if I put the meat in my mouth, how could I chew it without teeth?

This time, I would convert it into milk.

I'm so hungry...

Wait a minute? Even if I turned the straw into milk, how would I drink it?

The milk would soak into the ground. Even if I could convert it into milk in a bottle, I couldn't hold the bottle in my current state.

"Au au au (This is a dead end...)"

"Baby, you want milk, don't you?"

My mother offered her breast. Even though no milk would come out, I wanted to ease my hunger a little, so I latched on.

Suck, suck, suck, suck, suck. Huh? What? Is the milk coming out more than usual? Oh, milk is coming out!

I sucked desperately. My hunger was somewhat alleviated, but I wasn't full. However, I felt a sense of renewed happiness.

So, that meat! The milk started coming out because my mother ate the meat! Indirectly, it helped ease my hunger.

It wasn't entirely satisfying, but if I kept helping my mother gain nutrients, it would ultimately extend my life!

From that day on, every morning, I would convert the straw into meat or fish and feed it to my mother. My mother's health gradually improved, and her milk production increased in both quantity and quality.
