The prisoner drops to the ground with a thump. The small sharp object rolls out of his hands, easily reaching the shadow of another person’s foot. It is trampled and ground into dust with ease.
The incident was near instantaneous, too fast for Magician to react – he only rushes out when the prisoner has inexplicably and without hesitation, sliced his own throat open, not waiting until Gatekeeper stops him.
Well, not that Gatekeeper would have stopped him.
“Or simple, such as death coming all too soon.”
Jiang Yiyi has not paused at the incident, but moved over to Lin Yi.
Lin Yi is currently engaged in a fight against multiple assailants, making the situation rather chaotic.
None of them are aware of what exactly happened beside them. They are focused.
Jiang Yiyi puts his hand on Lin Yi’s shoulder.
Lin Yi reflexively moves, and seeing Jiang Yiyi, completely freezes in place.
Seeing such an opening brings joy to the prisoners ganging up on him. They swing…
“Stop.” Magician has finally arrived before tragedy could strike twice.
With a flurry of movements, he easily suppresses the gang of prisoners who have given Lin Yi a hard time for several minutes, putting them all to the side——Far away from Jiang Yiyi.
“How are you feeling?” He then approaches the collapsed prisoner without checking on Jiang Yiyi.
The waves of prisoners pause at the intervention, like beasts suddenly yanked on their chains, and they quietly, carefully slink off back to their safe spot.
The question is answered in the form of the body of the prisoner twitching noticeably.
Magician is furrowing his brow, and leaning further in to check the deep wound on the man’s neck.
That is when he hears a chuckle from Jiang Yiyi. His hair stands on end.
He does not know what is going wrong, but his body reacts intuitively; completely reversing his own motion, his body arcing backwards in a brilliant parabola——It is practically the limit of what human bones can stretch to.
The prisoner lying on the ground has shot up, swinging the blade in his hand out.
This blade is not his own——In this building, all that the prisoners can access comes from prison officers’ supplies. No such dangerous, lethal objects could have been acquired.
The blade would have connected with Magician’s throat, but his quick reaction has made that first hit miss; the prisoner adjusts his movement with impeccable dexterity, causing the blade to narrowly slide across Magician’s nose. He pushes further, and if succeeding, Magician might not be dead, but he will have a permanent scar for sure——That does not come to pass, because an arm has grabbed his hand, forcing it away. There is a clear snapping sound.
Gatekeeper is here, putting a stop to everything before the situation can escalate further.
He lets go, and the prisoner with the dislodged arm finally slumps back down, leaving his final words to the mortal world, “you demons.”
Gatekeeper remains unchanged in expression. After quickly ascertaining no further injuries on Magician, who has just straightened back up, outside of a tiny slice across his nose, finally looks back at Jiang Yiyi. His tone is, finally, slightly different from before, “Doctor, I was not expecting your temper to be quite so terrible.”
Magician takes his noise-cancelling headphones off, and crouches again to check on the collapsed prisoner——He is dead, from the wound on the neck.
He then looks around at the prisoners surrounding them, and raises his voice, “what are you all waiting around for? Spread out.”
The crowds disperse back to their spaces in the large building, losing interest in Jiang Yiyi and his group of invaders.
Magician feels his nose, as he recalls the feeling of that cold blade flying past his eyes——While he was in no danger of dying, but being able to give him this tiny wound already means credit where it’s due.
“I suppose I am.”
Jiang Yiyi stands there, not any different from before, but right now, the people looking at him find themselves unable to view him the way they did just a moment ago.
A terrible existence that easily fools others with his appearance, as long as they do not come to know him any better.
“Which is why, in general, I advocate for everyone to remain calm.” Jiang Yiyi’s smile turns slightly troubled, “because when people act irrationally, it causes grave consequences.”
“From our previous understanding, Doctor has not been as temperamental.” Magician leads them back outside, while asking, “did I do something that made you unhappy?”
The earlier incident seems to have been dismissed entirely; he winks at Jiang Yiyi, “please do tell me what it was, so that I can learn my lesson, and not cause such happenings ever again.”
Jiang Yiyi thinks for a few seconds, then gives him his honest answer, “I was not angry.”
He gives Magician a friendly smile, “you simply appeared very curious about me, so that was my answer to you.”
