“I see that you are not inclined to talk, Doctor.”

Gatekeeper judges the conversation over at this point, and simply swipes the door open, ready to send Jiang Yiyi into his personal cell.

Jiang Yiyi was quite neutral in attitude when talking to Gatekeeper. The questions were somewhat pointed, but everyone was speaking cordially.

Making the mood restrained.

Now, however, with Jiang Yiyi’s apparent uncooperativeness, the mood turns a bit more jagged, lifting the restraint away.

Jiang Yiyi’s fingers twitch, the reflecting silver flickers in his hand.

Gatekeeper’s eyes fall to the hand.

“I would say that it is not a good idea.” Gatekeeper says slowly.

The blade makes a variety of arcs through the air. Jiang Yiyi, with his eyes on Gatekeeper, takes a step forward.

Jiang Yiyi’s actual strength in fighting cannot trigger a reaction from Gatekeeper at all. Never mind a blade, even with a particle weapon Jiang Yiyi would not be able to harm Gatekeeper.

And it has never been his fighting strength that makes Jiang Yiyi terrifying.

Gatekeeper stays in place, narrowing his eyes, observing Jiang Yiyi closely as he makes his movement. At this distance, he can kill Jiang Yiyi in the blink of an eye——Perhaps before the blink even finishes.

The general mood is tense, and the hammer ready to fall at any second, becoming the last straw.

Jiang Yiyi takes a step, and two… then stops. He is right in front of Gatekeeper.

He has continued to keep his eyes on Gatekeeper, while the large man has his eyes locked on Jiang Yiyi’s throat.

Their eyes do not meet for a single second.

Jiang Yiyi smiles at the wariness kept well under Gatekeeper’s calm behaviour. He pats him on the shoulder, “don’t worry.”

Gatekeeper finds his brow twitching upwards. He took a step back when Jiang Yiyi made his move…

But he realises that his thought did not seem to have been realised by his body, when it does not move as he wanted.

Jiang Yiyi’s hand, after the brief stop on Gatekeeper’s shoulder, moves sideways slowly until reaching Gatekeeper’s throat, stopping there.

When the sharp feeling reaches his throat, Gatekeeper is finds it evoking a feeling long unfelt.

It has been a long time, since he has been threatened this directly.

“Worry not, I do not kill people.” Jiang Yiyi says, “I am only trying to tell you one thing.”

“Angering me, is not a good idea.”

That is when he pauses, glancing to the opposite side.

It is completely quiet here, so quiet that it could convince someone they misheard that laugh. Jiang Yiyi is sure, though, that there was laughter coming from the room opposite——From room 1-007.

Then Jiang Yiyi casually retracts the blade on Gatekeeper’s throat, with his eyes still fixed on 1-007.

Gatekeeper takes a step back, creating a distance with Jiang Yiyi.

He should be saying something, but he is also not of the personality to say anything useless. This means, after the awkward silence, he simply comments, “it is possible that you are the theoretical new human whose evolution is complete.”

“New human, with a ‘complete’ evolution?” Jiang Yiyi reaches a conclusion instantly, “meaning, everyone else here, are new humans with incomplete evolution?”

“Exactly.”

The threat of death didn’t seem to affect the current situation at all, having been treated as just any other everyday occurrence. They both got over it instantly, resuming their somewhat constipated conversation.

“All Extraordinaries are clinically insane.” Gatekeeper explains, “their insanity manifests in different ways, but none of them are neurotypical.”

“Their desire for chaos, blood and death cannot be restrained.” Gatekeeper glances at Jiang Yiyi, “if they roam freely, the demons outside of Hell will only paint the mortal realm crimson.”

If that is the hidden background lore of this game, then this game sure is quite interestingly written.

Jiang Yiyi stops looking at 1-007, and back at Gatekeeper.

“Yet you are different from them.” Gatekeeper says, falls into thought, then emphasises once more, “very different.”

Jiang Yiyi answers matter-of-factly, “because I am normal.”

Jiang Yiyi hears the laughter again, from the same room.

The exceptional insulation means it is muffled and barely audible. He can only discern a laughter from the acoustic characteristics.

Thinking backwards——How loudly must the occupant of the cell be laughing to be able to transmit that muffled laugh through the great insulation work?

Gatekeeper must have heard it too, but he shows no reaction.

“Doctor, we will have enough time to catch up and reach a consensus with you in the future.”

Gatekeeper gestures to the door that clicked open, and is now slightly ajar.

Jiang Yiyi pushes to enter.

“May I remind you once again, that my sentence will be over in half a year.”

When the door is going to shut, Jiang Yiyi hears the laughter once more. This time, it is even louder than the previous two times, and enough for the craziness in the smile to get through——He sounds like he’d soon run out of breath with that cacophony.

Author’s notes:

Jiang Yiyi’s blade on Gatekeeper’s throat is not actually a threat——But more a ‘friendly elbow to the torso’ of sorts. Neither had the need to say anything else about it.

This level of danger is expected and comes often enough with the job, so it is not of concern.

And, in case it wasn’t clear, the numbering of the room represents the danger of the Extraordinary occupant within.
