At midnight, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse.
It was still the Chi Yun Rainforest, but the night brought a bit more coolness, and occasionally, one could see streams formed by rainwater, shining brightly under the moonlight. However, the occasional cries of birds and beasts made people feel uneasy.
At this moment, by a stream in a corner of the rainforest, under the moonlight, two girls, though disheveled, could be seen. They were tall and cute, like orchids in spring and chrysanthemums in autumn. The taller girl was nervously on guard, while the cute one undid her undergarment, revealing her snow-white skin, and was frowning as she cleaned a scrape under her armpit, her expression filled with confusion and she murmured softly.
"Du Min, it's been three days, and we don't know when the rescue team will come. The food in our camp is almost gone."
The tall girl, called Du Min, remained silent upon hearing this. For them, these three days had completely changed their lives. Three days ago, they were students at the Ethereal Dao Academy, but now they were trapped in this place, where danger lurked everywhere.
The Chi Yun Rainforest seemed beautiful, but the ground was damp and decaying, with animal bones occasionally exposed. There were also many foot-long centipedes and colorful snakes, which made people's hair stand on end. Moreover, since the beginning of the Spirit Era, various fierce beasts, like humans, had rapidly evolved, becoming incredibly strong and extremely savage, making the wilderness a forbidden zone for people.
At this moment, as the two girls were feeling bitter, not far from them, under a large tree, a chubby boy was standing, looking indignant, and urinating.
This chubby boy was Wang Baole. He did not notice the two girls cleaning their wounds, nor did he see the small flower at his feet, which was being battered by the water.
"Damn it, I, Wang Baole, who can read people's intentions and see through the world... didn't even realize I was tricked by the Ethereal Dao Academy!"
"This Ethereal Dao Academy is too cunning, acting so convincingly. To make us believe, they even made everyone see the spaceship explode!" Wang Baole was seething inside, as these three days had been terrifying for him.
Three days ago, he and his classmates fell asleep in the spirit cultivation room and were awakened by a loud explosion. Without much time to think, they were pushed out of the airship by a force. Fortunately, the spirit cultivation suits had cushioning and lightning protection, allowing them to barely land in the rainforest, but they witnessed the airship explode in the magnetic storm.
In the following three days, Wang Baole and the others were scattered in the jungle. The lack of food, the savagery of wild beasts, and the uncertainty and fear about the future made all the students reveal some of their true natures in this crisis. Some banded together, some went alone, some were decisive, and some were timid.
Although the law of the jungle was sudden for them, these new students of the Ethereal Dao Academy, in this crisis, their latent traits seemed to be triggered, whether it was greed or savagery, selflessness or kindness, they were magnified.
"Shameless!" Wang Baole muttered to himself. Three days ago, he really thought everything was real, and even when he encountered his rival, Du Min, he endured and stayed in her camp.
After three days of hunger, he discovered through the physical test function of his communication ring that his weight had miraculously dropped by about six or seven pounds. This made him both shocked and suspicious.
Wang Baole's experience was unique. He had once tried to lose weight by almost not eating or drinking for months and exercising intensely, but his weight not only didn't decrease, it even increased by three pounds!
Now, in just three days, he had lost six or seven pounds, which was impossible for him!
Especially when he recalled reading in some high officials' autobiographies that the academy seemed to have a new student assessment every so often.
If not for his thorough research, he might not have noticed this. Now, connecting the dots, he realized that although he didn't know how the Ethereal Dao Academy made everything so realistic, it was likely that they had a flaw, using normal human metabolism as a standard, while he was clearly not a normal person...
He was 80% sure that everything he was experiencing was an illusion.
What truly confirmed his suspicion was the half-black mask in his chest pocket, which had been returned by the old doctor.
Thinking about this, Wang Baole, who was urinating, couldn't help but look down at his chest, feeling a strange sensation.
He clearly remembered placing the half-black mask in his pocket before entering the spirit cultivation room. After the crisis, he didn't have time to pay attention to it. It wasn't until recently that he noticed the mask, though it looked normal, could actually be penetrated by his hand, as if it were intangible.
It was as if this illusory world, which could simulate everything, was difficult to analyze and reshape into a tangible form.
Even as time passed, the shape of the mask began to become illusory, and some indistinct words appeared on it.
Although it was hard to read, the changes in the mask increased Wang Baole's certainty from 80% to 100%!
Following this line of thought, if this was a test created by a false disaster, it wasn't hard to guess the direction of the test.
"It can't be about who is stronger or weaker, as we haven't even learned ancient martial arts. So, the purpose of this test must be to examine our character in a crisis, and perhaps our confidence in the academy?" Wang Baole thought to himself, his mind racing as he urinated, occasionally shivering.
As the small flower in front of him became more disheveled, Wang Baole's breathing quickened. He felt it was necessary to seize this opportunity to earn some points for himself.
"Let's do it!" With that, Wang Baole shook himself, just about to pull up his pants, when he suddenly saw the nearby stream.
Under the moonlight, although Du Min was standing there, Wang Baole's eyes were no longer on her but on a cute girl cleaning her wound, and the small, white rabbit on her chest.
"Human-shaped beasts!" Wang Baole's eyes widened, he drew a sharp breath, and his heart raced. But just as he glanced, Du Min, who was on guard, seemed to notice and looked over, meeting Wang Baole's gaze. After a moment of shock, her expression changed dramatically, but before she could scream, Wang Baole glared and shouted first.
"What are you looking at? Have you never seen a man urinate before?"
His words left Du Min speechless, her body trembling with anger. She had never met anyone as shameless as Wang Baole. She couldn't help but curse.
"Fatso, you call yourself a man!"
This made Wang Baole almost burst with anger. He and Du Min had been rivals since childhood, always disliking each other, and they were in the same class. Now, Wang Baole took a deep breath and snorted.
"Flat-chest, your chest isn't even as big as mine, and you call yourself a woman!"
Du Min almost spat blood, her forehead veins bulging. Just as she was about to charge over, Wang Baole sighed.
"My pure body has been seen by all of you. How can I face the world now?" He looked as if life had no meaning, pulled up his pants, and ran away, his heart pounding and his back drenched in cold sweat, grateful for his quick reaction.
Seeing Wang Baole about to escape, Du Min's eyes blazed with anger, and she quickly chased after him. The cute girl in the stream, hearing their vicious exchange, was confused and unaware that Wang Baole had taken advantage of her. Seeing Du Min chase after him, she quickly put on her clothes and blushed as she followed.
With Du Min's angry shouts, the calm of the rainforest was broken. In the direction of their temporary camp, a group of people quickly rushed over, blocking Wang Baole's path.
The leader was a young man in white, holding a torch, tall and imposing, with a sword-like brow and star-like eyes, standing out in the crowd. Many students surrounded him, clearly following his lead.
This young man was Liu Daobin, who had united the group and shown his charisma over the past three days in their camp.
"Wang Baole, what did you do!" Liu Daobin saw Du Min and the other girl chasing Wang Baole, who was still fastening his pants. This strange scene made Liu Daobin pause. He had always had feelings for Du Min and now instinctively felt a dislike for Wang Baole.
"I was just urinating..." Wang Baole didn't finish his sentence when a loud scream came from Du Min and the other girl.
In that instant, a pungent smell filled the air, and a rustling sound spread like a storm.
Wang Baole turned around, and Liu Daobin and the other students' expressions changed. They saw countless snakes emerging from the ground and branches around Du Min and the cute girl.
The snakes were colorful and clearly venomous, and their numbers were overwhelming, forming a sea of snakes that trapped Du Min and the other girl.
The two girls' expressions changed dramatically, especially as the snakes opened their venomous mouths, drooling and hissing, the smell making them nauseous.
Liu Daobin's body trembled, and he didn't have time to deal with Wang Baole. He rushed towards Du Min, and some other students, eyes red, quickly followed to rescue them.
Everything happened too quickly. Just as everyone was about to help, a chilling cry came from the ground in the distance, and a red line, as thick as an arm, clearly visible even in the dark, moved at an incredible speed towards them.
Occasionally, a pale head emerged, not like a snake's head but clearly a baby's face, with eyes filled with a madness that made everyone's hearts race.
"Red Bone White Baby Snake!" Some students recognized it, their hearts racing, and they retreated in fear.
Liu Daobin's scalp tingled, his hair standing on end, his heart pounding. The Red Bone White Baby Snake was too famous, listed among the thousand most dangerous creatures in the Federation's Spirit Era. Although its body was fragile and its speed not extreme, its venom was so potent that a single drop would turn a person into blood, leaving only a red bone, hence its name.
Even though he loved Du Min, the thought of dying made him instinctively retreat, staying far away, fearing that the Red Bone White Baby Snake might attack them as well.
Wang Baole, seeing this, took a deep breath but then realized that everything was an illusion, and he immediately felt relieved. His eyes brightened, thinking that this was the moment to show his bravery to the teachers.
"Since it's all fake, I have nothing to fear." With that, Wang Baole stood tall, looking at the fleeing students with deep disdain.
"Although Du Min is a flat-chested, sharp-tongued, and ugly girl who always uses her authority to bully me, I, Wang Baole, am a noble, upright, fearless, and beneficial person!"
"In such a dangerous situation, how can I, Wang Baole, retreat? Others are afraid to die and won't go, but... for my classmates, I will!"
This shameless fat boy was almost moved by his own words. Had he really forgotten that this was an illusion? But he seemed to have forgotten, getting lost in his own grandeur, as if only this was real and worthy of his bravery.
"Flat-chest, today you'll see what a real man is!"
As everyone retreated in fear, Wang Baole not only didn't retreat but let out a loud shout. He pursed his lips, raised his chin, and his round face seemed to have a sharp edge, full of masculine energy. He charged into the snake crowd with the momentum of a dragon and the strength of a tiger.
His heroic and invincible figure, representing justice, rushed towards Du Min and the other girl!
This scene made Du Min pause, even in the midst of the snake crowd, feeling a strong sense of discomfort. But the cute girl beside her couldn't help but be excited.
As for the others, they were stunned by Wang Baole's shout and his heroic presence. They watched as Wang Baole, just as the Red Bone White Baby Snake was about to reach Du Min and the other girl, suddenly appeared, like a god descending, grabbing the feared Red Bone White Baby Snake and throwing it far away.
At that moment, he exuded a powerful and majestic aura, as if a saint had possessed him, his righteous energy spreading in all directions. Without a moment's hesitation, he grabbed the excited cute girl and the stunned Du Min, and rushed back to the group.
However, with so many snakes around, he was bitten several times on his buttocks during the process. By the time he returned, his face was already black, but he gritted his teeth and supported himself until he safely delivered Du Min and the other girl, then stumbled and fell.
"Maybe I was a bit impulsive... My butt hurts, being a real man is tough." Wang Baole thought to himself, seeing Du Min still staring at him in shock, the cute girl looking at him with gratitude, and the others with expressions of disbelief. Despite his heavy eyelids, he felt a sense of satisfaction.
But as the pain in his buttocks turned to numbness, Wang Baole quickly grabbed Du Min's hand.
"Du Min, I saved your life. I can't feel my butt anymore. I heard that if the venom is sucked out, one can be saved. Can you help me...?" Before he could finish, Wang Baole couldn't resist the dizziness and his head tilted, about to rest on Du Min's chest, but he suddenly realized something and changed direction, landing on the cute girl's chest.
Seeing this, everyone's expressions were strange, and Du Min, seeing Wang Baole's disdainful look even in his unconscious state, turned black.
At this moment, in the sky above the Federation, far from the Chi Yun Rainforest and getting closer to the Ethereal Dao Academy, in a red airship, in the spirit cultivation room, hundreds of students were quietly sleeping, including Wang Baole, who seemed to be having a pleasant dream, his head tilted, a smile of enjoyment on his lips.
In the main cabin of the airship, including the old doctor, all the teachers were staring, wide-eyed, at the many crystal screens in front of them.
One of the screens showed the Chi Yun Rainforest, where Wang Baole, after saving Du Min, was unconscious.
"What's this fat boy's name!"
"Although it's a dream maze, it's completely real. His actions inside reflect his true character!"
"Such bravery, such selflessness in saving his classmates, this boy is a rare talent! He is the kind of excellent student our academy desperately needs!"
After a long moment, the teachers exclaimed, looking at Wang Baole with admiration, and some were already considering whether to directly recruit him into their own departments.
Even the head of the Ethereal Dao Academy, the old doctor, was stunned. He hesitated, sensing something was off.
"Did I really misjudge him?" He took out Wang Baole's file from the student records and looked it over.
