On April 8, 1997, a Tuesday, the second day of school.
High school curricula in Japan and China are quite similar, and the content taught by teachers is also similar. After all, both are East Asian countries. The textbooks used in Japanese high schools are not much different from what Morinatsu learned in her previous life. As a top student and a穿越者 (time traveler), if she couldn't keep up in this area, she would really be a failure.
Of course, occasionally reviewing the material is still necessary. To avoid falling behind in Sakunou High School, which has a deviation value of around 70, completely ignoring academics is not easy.
The deviation value is a calculation formula used in Japan to measure a student's intelligence and academic ability. It refers to the deviation value of a student relative to the average. The deviation value is not related to individual test scores but reflects the ranking of each student among all test-takers. Therefore, in Japan, the deviation value is considered a correct reflection of academic performance and has naturally become the standard for evaluating learning ability. Whether a school is prestigious or not is most clearly reflected in its deviation value.
The calculation method for the deviation value is to subtract the average score from the individual score and then divide by the standard deviation. Multiply the resulting value by ten and finally add fifty to get the deviation value.
Generally, the median deviation value is 50, with values typically ranging from 25 to 75. The higher a school's average deviation value, the stronger the school. A deviation value of 60 or higher generally means that one can attend a better university.
What? You ask what the standard deviation is? Very good, please review the relevant content in your high school textbook. In simple terms, it describes the distance of each data point from the average.
After the morning classes ended, Morinatsu took out her bento.
"Oh, what a lavish bento, Morinatsu. I wanted to ask you yesterday, did your sister make this?" Togashi Takashi came over again.
"Yes, but I have to say it again: please stay away from her." Morinatsu would never let this guy get close to her sister.
Not only is he a blonde, but he's also an idiot. It's unbearable. Let alone dating, even letting him get close to her sister would be a desecration!
After eating, Morinatsu and Togashi headed to the anime club again.
"This time the door isn't locked." Upon arriving, Togashi noticed that the anime club room's door was not locked.
Morinatsu walked over and knocked on the door.
"Please come in." A female voice, very pleasant, came from the other side.
"Such a beautiful voice, she must be a beauty!" Togashi was very excited.
Morinatsu ignored Togashi's reaction. In the real world, the correlation between a beautiful voice and good looks is often the opposite. This isn't a novel or an anime.
"Excuse me."
He opened the door and walked in, with Togashi following closely behind.
Stepping into the room, they saw a large and spacious anime club room. The room was indeed large, but the middle was an empty space with nothing on it. In the back, there were several bookshelves and tables and chairs, filled with manga and novels. On the walls around, there were posters of various anime, especially many EVA posters.
In front of Morinatsu, by the window, was a girl in a school uniform.
"Hey, you're the senpai from yesterday?!" Togashi shouted.
Yes, that's right. This girl was the same beautiful girl they saw yesterday.
Togashi Takashi was very excited, but Morinatsu remained calm. He walked over and said, "Senpai, hello. I am Morinatsu from Class 2, Grade 1, and this is my classmate Togashi Takashi. We want to join this club."
"You want to join the Animic Club?" The girl closed the manga in her hand, stood up, and pushed her long hair behind her. "I'm sorry, but it's probably not possible because the club is about to be disbanded."
"…Huh?" Togashi, who was still excited, was stunned. "Why? Why is the club suddenly being disbanded?!"
"My name is Senu Chika, a second-year student and the president of the Animic Club. Although you seem very enthusiastic, I'm sorry, but there's only me left in the club, so it will be disbanded this year." She had a blank expression, as if she was pushing people away.
Her cold demeanor reminded Morinatsu of a certain character known for being "three-nothing": Asuka Langley.
"But isn't this the only club related to anime, manga, and games in our school?" Morinatsu was reluctant to leave just like that.
"You can join the computer club, the art club, or the film club. I hear the film club has few members but isn't quite at the point of being disbanded yet." Senu Chika said this while walking to the bookshelf, putting the manga back, and taking out another one. She didn't even look at the two of them, maintaining her blank expression.
"Isn't Japan supposed to love ACG the most? Why is it so desolate?!" Togashi couldn't believe it. His eyes were wide open, and his hands were moving wildly. He looked more like someone from China than Morinatsu.
"Because this is Sakunou High School, a private high school. Isn't it normal for it to be different from the outside world? And there's no rule that everyone has to like anime!" Senu Chika sat back down by the window. Morinatsu kept looking at her, but she still didn't look at him.
"Why are you still here?" Morinatsu asked curiously.
"The club will be officially disbanded in a month. Isn't it normal for me to be here?" She didn't even raise her head.
Her personality was truly unique. Morinatsu strongly suspected that she stayed here to read because it was quiet.
"Then we'll be leaving. We're sorry for the disturbance." Morinatsu said and pulled Togashi, who didn't want to leave, out of the room. Since the club was about to be disbanded, there was no need to stay.
"Morinatsu, why are you leaving so quickly? Senpai is so beautiful, shouldn't we stay a bit longer?" Togashi seemed reluctant.
"Are you saying that your shouting just now was to get senpai's attention?" Despite being a blonde, Togashi was unexpectedly pure.
Morinatsu patted Togashi's shoulder. "Give up on that. You and senpai have no future. Didn't you see her cold expression and tone?"
"…"
Togashi was deflated.
Morinatsu turned around and was about to take out his notebook to continue writing the story.
"Ah, where's my notebook?" He felt his pockets, but the notebook that was originally there was gone. It must have fallen on the way. He regretted bringing the notebook around.
"Never mind. It has my name on it, and it's all in Chinese. Not many people can understand it. There should be an announcement soon."
So, Morinatsu took out another notebook and continued to think about the next part of the story.
But before long, Morinatsu noticed that the class had suddenly become very quiet. At the same time, Togashi poked his back.
"Isn't class about to start?"
Although the lunch break in Japan is short, there should still be some time left.
"No, Morinatsu, it's senpai! Senpai!"
Senpai?
Morinatsu looked up and saw senpai standing next to his desk, looking at him with a bright expression. The students around were completely silent. Morinatsu noticed that senpai was holding a notebook, which was undoubtedly his.
"Is this the novel you wrote?"
Senpai's tone was very excited, much different from her previous cold demeanor.
So, you're actually a passionate person, senpai? Morinatsu was surprised.
...
