Chapter 8.1 - Trivial daily life

From Ben’s point of view, spending time with Miller was amazing, as it was a very natural start. As if their minds that had been spinning around for a long time were back in place. As if they were dressed in clothes that fit their bodies perfectly. It was very natural and comfortable. Except for one thing.
Miller was generally indifferent to people. It was no exception for Ben: he was an infinitely loving and caring person when they were together, but not at all when they weren’t.
Miller didn’t answer every text message he sent and called very late. He knew he preferred calling over texting in the first place, but Ben was still disappointed.
Ben hoped to contact him more often, but Miller showed no sign of doing so. Late wind was scary 1 , it was as if his heart would burst, because it was growing up without a limit.
Ben was busy too. Of course, other vampire cases were still taking place besides Han Cheng. When there was no answer to the texts he sent from time to time during his busy days dealing with these small incidents, Ben was getting angrier and irritated.
Ben was a normal man. Therefore, of course, he liked to receive affection from his lover, and he was happy to be praised even for the smallest things. Now, if Ben wasn’t mistaken, Miller and him were in the early stages of dating.
He thought it would be normal to want to be together for even a moment, miss each other, and wonder when they will get to see their lover. In the early days of dating, it was natural to try to be like that, at least most of the people Ben had seen so far have.
Miller talked to him as if he had been waiting for a very long time, and when they got together, it didn’t feel like that at all. It was as if he wasn’t feeding the fish he caught, so Ben’s pride was slightly hurt. It felt like dating someone who was dragged to accept for some reason.
Of course, that didn’t mean that Ben was madly expressing his affection for him. Ben was also blunt.
He sent text messages when he had spare time, but the problem was that all Miller wanted to do was call him to agree to see each other and the meet.
His personality was blunt, so he tried to think about dating more calmly, but it seemed to be a little too much if Ben hadn’t heard from him for a week.
It is natural to be nice to someone when they are together, and if they are apart, they should be nicer and show their thoughts from time to time, but Ben wondered why he was so busy that he didn’t even ask him the usual question of whether he had eaten or slept well.
Ben just sent his 12th text message and stared at his unresponsive cell phone right away. A lot of nonsense was coming to him, making Ben say that if there was no answer by today, he would never contact Miller first from now on.
After staring for a long time, Ben got up with his head down and sighed quietly.
He would have sent a message by now if he were to send one. The fact that there was no answer for nearly 10 minutes was as if his text was ignored.
Ben leaned back on the couch and stared at the ceiling. He tapped the armrest with his finger, thinking how Miller had revealed his thoughts that day.
Come to think of it, the day Miller confessed was really weird to fully unfold his innermost thoughts. He wondered if such a day would come again in the future.
Ben sat up straight and checked the text messages he sent out. Five asked if he had eaten, three asked whether he had slept well, three asked if he was busy, and one asked if he had already left the office.
After checking the text list, Ben frowned slightly. He was neither friendly nor soft at all, nor was he cute. Such questions could also be sent to colleagues.
Ben kept hesitating, pressing and deleting the text.
If he didn’t express himself honestly, there wouldn’t be much difference before and after they dated. Then, he thought the answer was to just lose it and share his thoughts first, but even in that case, he wondered what to do if Miller didn’t respond.
Ben started writing and soon began to press down letter by letter as if he had made up his mind. He hoped at least he wouldn’t bother.
[I miss you.]
As soon as he pressed the send button, Ben began to think that he had done nothing. As soon as he threw the phone at his desk as if he was fed up with everything, his phone started vibrating.
At that sound, Ben stared at his cell phone, wondering if he had heard it wrong, and even gulped down. They seemed to be dating for sure, seeing that he was so nervous about nothing.
Ben reached out carefully and checked his cell phone.
[Now?]
He was surprised that Miller, who had not said anything for a week, reacted so immediately, so Ben thought it was good to be honest. On the other hand, he was angry because Miller seemed to have ignored his text messages even though he was able to text him back this fast.
Ben stared at his phone’s screen, thinking in his head how he wouldn’t be more embarrassed.
[Yes. Now.]
He knew very well that he shouldn’t make things hard as he was a busy person, but he was still grumpy about not having any contact for a week.
As expected, Miller’s answer didn’t come as soon as before as he was too busy. Ben’s face was filled with embarrassment. Although it was all in his mind, a smile leaked from Ben’s mouth when he thought Miller’s poker face might have been broken.
Ben started typing with his fingers and started relaxing, thinking that he should quit this time, asking to see him later, and asking when he could see him..
[Can you come here?]
By the time he was almost done, the screen changed. A text from Miller. Ben giggled at the text message. He seemed to miss him too. Maybe he really was so busy that he couldn’t meet Ben, but he was a little offended. It had been a week since he contacted Miller, but he wasn’t saying that he’d stop by even if he was late. Ben wondered if it was like that for all the people who were sick of others.
[I’m very busy, that’s going to be a little hard.]
Ben texted faster than before and put the phone down on the desk. Somehow he was nervous and looked at my phone, biting my thumb as a habit. Ben was wondering how he would react.
[Go home.]
The text he received this time was answered immediately without any hesitation. Miller was really manly. Couldn’t the Yard chief inspector go home when he wanted?
[I’m already home.]
He wanted to answer that he could come by because he was already home. A short sigh of “ Huh -” leaked from Ben’s mouth in the ensuing answer.
[You said you were busy, but don’t you miss me right now? ]
It felt like a joke. Ben stared at the text message he had just received and replied.
[I guess you don’t want to see me at all. ]
It was a bit cheap, but he needed to do it to make him fall off his horse. The text he sent this time didn’t get an answer right away. Thinking that he might have frowned slightly, Ben began to feel better again.
Ben’s face began to crumple for a while even though he felt better. Now the texting game was over. Unlike before, the cell phone didn’t show any sing of vibrating.
With a sigh, Ben turned his gaze back to the ceiling, but he was less annoyed than before and thought that Miller would call him tonight.
The one who gets interested late is more in love.
