When Feng Ling returned, Luo Bi was flipping through a book and looking up information on her optical brain. She looked up and said, "Hu Li came by. She gave me a basic introductory textbook, and a person named Fang岑 came with her."

Feng Ling took off his military jacket: "Fang岑 is the wife of Wen Wei, the captain of the Second Combat Team, and a first-class alchemy contract master."

Luo Bi really wanted to tell Feng Ling what Fang岑 had said, but thinking of how some people at the military base evaluated her, she decided against it, to avoid being accused of having ulterior motives.

Instead, Feng Ling asked very seriously about what Hu Li had taught her. Luo Bi told him the truth, and Feng Ling frowned: "She only gave you a book?"

Luo Bi smiled without saying anything. What else? Did Feng Ling expect Hu Li to teach her personally? Each alchemy contract master had their own set of alchemy techniques, and it wouldn't be good if someone else learned them.

Feng Ling didn't mean it that way. He was clear about some of the rules in the contract master world. He just wanted Hu Li to give Luo Bi some pointers, but it was obvious that Hu Li wasn't very enthusiastic. Feng Ling reached out and flipped through the book, then sneered. Basic introductory textbook? He could get such a book too; there was no need for Hu Li to use it to curry favor.

"Be careful, Hu Li treasures this book. Don't damage it, or I won't be able to explain it to her," Luo Bi reminded him.

Feng Ling tossed the book aside: "No problem, if it gets damaged, I'll give her ten copies."

Seeing Feng Ling's casual attitude, Luo Bi knew that this kind of book was nothing to him. She glanced at the book and said, "I can't understand it anyway. I'll return it to her tomorrow."

Feng Ling nodded and took his pajamas into the bathroom.

The next day, the first thing Luo Bi did after getting up was to return the book. Hu Li took the book and was surprised: "Why are you returning it so quickly? Have you finished reading it? Don't just read it; you need to think deeply to understand its subtleties."

After saying this, she warmly invited Luo Bi into the house, but Luo Bi shook her head: "I have something to do, I won't come in."

Back home, Luo Bi started alchemy again. Alchemy was very draining on mental and soul energy, and it took a lot of time, so she could only refine one batch per day. For two consecutive days, the sound of explosions could be heard within the family apartment complex.

Exploding one batch a day was not something just anyone could do. How incompetent must one be? Luo Jie found this interesting and enthusiastically ran to the First Combat Team to gossip every day: "You know, once you get used to the sound, it's actually quite pleasant."

Qin Yilang had just returned from the training room and gave him a meaningful look. Exploding batches wasn't a good thing, and it shouldn't be mentioned as a joke in front of Feng Ling.

Luo Jie feigned innocence, saying that even if he didn't mention it, others would. The sound of the explosions was just too amusing.

The members of the First Combat Team also found it hard to believe. They knew that it wasn't easy for a contract master to refine spiritual medicines, but to have every batch explode, the failure rate was too high.

Qin Yilang sighed. After Luo Jie left, he called Feng Ling to his office and said, "I hinted to the team members earlier, but the two contract masters don't agree to Luo Bi joining our combat team."

With the loud explosions from Luo Bi's alchemy, the other two contract masters in the combat team would be even less likely to agree to her joining.

"It's fine," Feng Ling wasn't bothered by this.

Qin Yilang breathed a sigh of relief. The military had regulations that if a military family member awakened mental or soul energy, they had the right to apply to join their combat team. With Luo Bi's level of incompetence, not only did the two contract masters in the team not want her, but he himself was unwilling to accept her.

Each mission the combat team undertook involved life and death. If a contract master wasn't up to the task, it could at best drag down the team members, and at worst bring disaster to the entire combat team. Such examples were not uncommon.
