Looking at the mess in the Jade Pool, Sun Wukong thought to himself, "This is bad! This is bad! If the guests invited by the Queen Mother of the West come and see this mess, they will surely blame me. If they try to capture me, what should I do? It's better to go back to my palace and pretend I know nothing."
With the alcohol affecting him, Sun Wukong staggered around, taking advantage of his drunkenness to wander aimlessly. Before long, he got lost and ended up in front of the Palace of Purple Tenuity.
Seeing the Palace of Purple Tenuity, Sun Wukong thought, "The Palace of Purple Tenuity is above the Thirty-Third Heaven, the Daoist retreat of Laozi. How did I end up here? Oh well! Oh well! I've always wanted to visit this old man, but I never had the chance. Since I ended up here by mistake, I might as well pay him a visit."
Sun Wukong entered the Palace of Purple Tenuity and found that Laozi was not there, and there was no one around. He went straight to the alchemy room but couldn't find Laozi. Instead, he saw a five-meter-tall alchemy furnace with a roaring fire inside. Next to the furnace were five gourds filled with the golden pills that Laozi had refined. Sun Wukong hadn't even opened the gourds when he smelled a fresh fragrance, which was the scent of the immortal pills.
Seeing this, Sun Wukong was overjoyed and thought, "These are the treasures of the immortals. Since I attained the Dao, I have understood the principle of inner and outer unity, and I need some golden pills to help me. I didn't have the time to get them before. Today, by chance, I have encountered them. While Laozi is away, I'll eat a few to try them out." With that, Sun Wukong poured out all the gourds and swallowed all the immortal pills.
After eating and drinking his fill, Sun Wukong took a nap in the Palace of Purple Tenuity. When he woke up, the alcohol had worn off, and he realized the trouble he had caused. He thought to himself, "This is bad! This is bad! This disaster is bigger than the sky. If I alarm the Jade Emperor, my life will be in danger. Go! Go! Go! I might as well go down to the mortal world and be a king, living a carefree life!"
Sun Wukong left the Palace of Purple Tenuity and used an invisibility spell to escape to the mortal world.
Sun Wukong was truly bold and daring. After returning to Flower Fruit Mountain, he found that the wine and water there were not as good as those in the Heavenly Court, so he returned to the Heavenly Court and stole countless delicacies.
On one side, Sun Wukong was ruling Flower Fruit Mountain, leading a group of monkeys and apes to enjoy the delicious food from the Heavenly Court. On the other side, the Heavenly Court was in chaos.
First, the Seven Fairy Maidens reported to the Queen Mother of the West that Sun Wukong had eaten all the nine-thousand-year-old peaches. Then, a celestial official reported that someone had not only disrupted the "Peach Blossom Banquet" but also stolen the jade liquor and various delicacies.
Before the Queen Mother of the West could get angry, someone reported that the Daoist Patriarch Laozi had arrived.
The Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West went out to welcome him. After greeting Laozi, he said, "In my palace, I refined some 'Nine-Transmutation Golden Pills' and intended to present them to Your Majesty for the 'Pill Essence Banquet.' However, they were stolen by a thief. I am reporting this to Your Majesty."
Hearing this, the Jade Emperor was furious and ordered an investigation into the person who had disrupted the Heavenly Palace.
At this moment, an official from the Palace of Equal Heaven came to request an audience.
After paying respects to the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West, the official said, "Great Sage Sun has not been performing his duties. He has been out since yesterday and has not returned. His whereabouts are unknown."
Finally, the Barefoot Immortal confirmed that it was indeed Sun Wukong who had disrupted the "Peach Blossom Banquet." Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor was enraged and immediately ordered the Four Heavenly Kings, along with Li Tianwang and Prince Nezha, to lead the Twenty-Eight Constellations, the Nine Luminaries, the Twelve Celestial Deities, the Five Watchmen, the Four Deities of the Seasons, the Eastern and Western Stars, the Northern and Southern Gods, the Five Mountains, the Four Rivers, and all the celestial stars, totaling ten thousand celestial soldiers, to set up eighteen layers of heavenly nets and capture Sun Wukong for punishment.
A poem says:
The heaven-born monkey king is full of changes, stealing elixirs and wine to enjoy in his mountain lair. Because he disrupted the Peach Blossom Banquet, ten thousand celestial soldiers set up their nets.
After the celestial generals descended to the mortal world, Li Tianwang ordered the Flower Fruit Mountain to be surrounded tightly, with eighteen layers of heavenly nets set up above and below. He then sent the Nine Luminaries to engage in battle.
The Nine Luminaries led their troops straight to the Water Curtain Cave. Outside the cave, they saw a group of large and small monkeys playing and jumping. The Nine Luminaries shouted loudly, "Little demons! Where is your Great Sage? We are celestial deities sent by the Heavenly Court to subdue the rebellious Sun Wukong. Tell him to surrender quickly; if he says a single 'no,' all of you will be killed!"
When Sun Wukong heard the report from his subordinates, he was already in the wrong but did not want to break ties with the Heavenly Court. However, he was enraged when the Nine Luminaries directly attacked. Sun Wukong said, "These hairy gods are so impolite! I didn't want to fight them, but who gave them the nerve to attack me?" With that, Sun Wukong led the seventy-two demon kings into battle.
The small demons of Flower Fruit Mountain were no match for the celestial soldiers and were quickly killed in the first few rounds. Seeing this, Sun Wukong took out his golden cudgel and drove back the Nine Luminaries.
"We are here by the Jade Emperor's command to subdue you. We advise you to surrender soon to avoid the destruction of Flower Fruit Mountain. Otherwise, we will level this mountain and destroy this cave," the Nine Luminaries shouted around Sun Wukong.
Hearing this, Sun Wukong was furious and said, "You few hairy gods, what power do you have to speak such arrogance?" With that, Sun Wukong raised his cudgel to fight the Nine Luminaries.
"Monkey!"
Hearing someone call him, Sun Wukong was taken aback and turned around to see his junior brother.
"Little Cat, why are you here at Flower Fruit Mountain?" Sun Wukong was delighted to see the person.
Yang Zhen smiled and said, "I haven't seen you in a hundred years, so I came to visit. I didn't expect to find you in trouble."
"No problem! No problem!" Sun Wukong waved his hand and laughed. "These few hairy gods, I can deal with them in a few moves."
Yang Zhen had thought for a long time on Mount Fangcun and ultimately did not keep his promise to Master Subhuti to leave before the lotus bloomed. Yang Zhen was well aware of the dangers of this journey. He had given himself many reasons not to come, but none of them convinced him. So, he hurried to Flower Fruit Mountain to help Sun Wukong.
To Yang Zhen, Sun Wukong was not just a fellow disciple but also his childhood idol from his past life, with a special significance. Moreover, when they studied together on Mount Fangcun, Sun Wukong often took care of Yang Zhen and shared any delicious food he found.
