"Clang—" the preliminary round began.
Durian no longer paid attention to his senior disciples, as he saw no need to worry about them. Moreover, Durian had no intention of gathering their combat strength, because his goal was not to be the champion, but to participate.
Durian stepped onto the stage, feeling the sensation it gave him.
"You are truly pitiful." His opponent had already stood opposite him at some point.
"? " Recovering from his thoughts, Durian looked at his opponent — Android Tambourine.
He didn't expect his first opponent to be him, but Durian was not afraid, "Is that so? I don't think I'm pitiful. On the contrary, I feel lucky that I didn't encounter Goku and Krillin in the preliminaries."
"Hmph, a bunch of Turtle School trash." Tambourine spat, "I'll deal with you first, then the others."
Durian looked at Tambourine calmly, without fear, but he knew he had to defeat this opponent for the sake of his school, "Enough talk, let's go."
"Ha ha, eager to die!!" Tambourine charged forward.
Fists met fists, it was Durian's first true battle. Durian intentionally used different techniques to test his mastery of them.
"You're nothing special." Durian taunted Tambourine.
Tambourine was very angry because this junior's long attack seemed ineffective, "You leave me no choice."
Durian knew Tambourine was about to use Crane School techniques like the Dodon Ray. If it were Goku and the others, they would definitely face it head-on, but Durian wasn't prepared for that, as it would be too foolish.
Durian took the initiative, "Solar Punch —" blinding Tambourine's eyes, Durian then delivered a heavy blow to his abdomen, followed by more heavy blows, and finally a punch to Tambourine's face, sending him off the stage.
"Look, that's the Solar Punch from the previous champion." There were quite a few knowledgeable people in the audience.
Even Durian's senior disciples were surprised that he would use the Solar Punch.
Durian's next opponent was a masked man who babbled on the stage, but his skills and strength were impressive, making Durian take him seriously.
After a while, Durian suddenly found the masked man's movements familiar. Finally, he realized that this build and strength belonged to Yajirobe from Karin Tower. It had been a long time since they met, and he had forgotten that Yajirobe would also come to the World Martial Arts Tournament.
"Yajirobe!" Durian called out.
"Ah?" Clearly, Yajirobe didn't expect Durian to recognize him, "Can't help it, don't shout so loud, it'll be embarrassing if I lose to you."
Durian was sweating, "If you know you'll lose to me, why not just admit defeat?"
To his surprise, Yajirobe raised his right hand, "Alright, I admit defeat."
Durian was sweating again, knowing Yajirobe lacked motivation, but he didn't expect him to admit defeat so easily.
"After the tournament, you have to treat me to a meal," Yajirobe said, "And the Immortal Karin is still waiting for you to bring him some good food."
Well, Durian admitted he had forgotten the promise he made to the Immortal Cat three years ago.
After Yajirobe, Durian didn't encounter any worthy opponents and made it to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinalists were: Piccolo, Krillin, Goku, Tien, the god who defeated Chaoz, Yamcha, and Durian. The draw results were: Durian vs. Tien, Krillin vs. Goku, Piccolo vs. Krillin, and the old god vs. Yamcha.
The matches continued.
Durian and Tien walked to the official stage of the World Martial Arts Tournament outdoors. It was Durian's first time facing a main character from the manga, and he felt a bit of pressure.
"Durian, I won't hold back," Tien said.
"I'll settle the score for the humiliation from back then," Durian replied, not backing down.
The host walked out, "The first match of the World Martial Arts Tournament quarterfinals begins now."
As soon as the words were spoken, Durian and Tien disappeared in an instant. However, the sound of their punches breaking the air could still be heard.
"What's happening? I can't see the movements of the two contestants at all!!" the host exclaimed.
Durian also increased his speed to match Tien's. However, Durian was wearing a custom 80-kilogram weighted suit. The turtle shell was too embarrassing, so Durian had a set of inconspicuous weighted clothes made before he left.
The battle between Durian and Tien excited their fellow disciples. Durian enjoyed the process, though he wasn't a battle maniac, the thrill of combat made him very happy.
"Solar Punch —" Durian shouted, the blinding light dazzling the audience.
However, although Durian's Solar Punch was unexpected, Tien was the creator of the Solar Punch. As soon as Durian threw his punch, Tien also countered with the same move, "Solar Punch —"
Durian didn't expect the retaliation to come so quickly and had to close his eyes. But Durian's ki immediately spread throughout the area, sensing Tien's movements.
"Ah — both contestants, Durian and Tien, have their eyes closed??" the host, wearing sunglasses, saw clearly, "Unbelievable, the two contestants are fighting with their eyes closed."
"Durian, I didn't expect you to improve so much," Tien said.
"Of course, although my goal isn't to be the world's best, I have to face various dangers on Earth," Durian said, "Take this — Kamehameha."
Durian knew Tien wouldn't avoid the challenge.
"Let's see, Durian."
Durian stepped into a bow stance, hands clasped at his waist, "Kame — Hame — Hame — Ha —"
"Good, I'll counter," Tien shouted, also using the Kamehameha.
The two energy waves collided and continued. This was a test of ki.
Of course, Durian, with his perpetual motion machine, had an advantage, though it was a bit unfair.
After about ten minutes, Tien, scorched black, fell off the stage.
"The winner is contestant Durian," the host announced loudly.
Hearing the result, Durian quickly jumped down and gave Tien a Senzu bean.
Goku and Krillin, who had rushed over, also had Senzu beans, but they weren't as quick as Durian. Tien was a bit down, but he soon opened up, though he admitted that Durian's methods were a bit unfair, he had lost.
The second match, Goku vs. Chi-Chi, was more like a martial arts marriage contest. Only Goku was confused and clueless. However, the final result was good, though the other bachelors were envious and resentful.
The third match, Krillin vs. Piccolo, had a predictable outcome. Krillin, though he had grown a lot, was still far inferior to the Namekian.
The fourth match, the god vs. Yamcha, was even more tragic. Yamcha lost without complaint, his Spirit Ball was impressive, but he was still knocked down by the god's punch.
Thus, the semifinalists were determined: Durian vs. Goku, Piccolo vs. the god.
