Chapter 1

"Yunfan! Yunfan...!"

...

In the classroom, Yunfan was awakened by the shrill voice. He had been so exhausted these days that he actually fell asleep during class.

Yunfan groggily opened his eyes and found that the history teacher, Lu Shanggong, was staring at him like a fighting cock.

His desk partner, Wang Nan, gently poked Yunfan’s leg and whispered, "Teacher Lu is talking about the history of 'Father of Mechs' Ji Daoqin!"

Ji Daoqin, the greatest scientist on Earth, created the first mech in the 200th year of the New Era, ushering in the mech age and repelling the invasion of genetic life forms.

Lu Shanggong did not ask Yunfan any questions about the lesson. Instead, he slapped the podium and shouted loudly, "Yunfan, do you know how lucky you are to be able to enter a mech high school as a commoner? Your ancestors must have been very fortunate for you to have this opportunity. How can you dare to sleep during class? Do you feel worthy of your parents? Do you feel worthy of your ancestors? Do you feel worthy of your teacher?"

"Hey...!" Many students from noble families made strange noises and started to jeer.

The class monitor, Cui Yushi, said in a mocking tone, "Teacher Lu, how can he possibly feel worthy of you! He doesn’t sleep in other classes, but he does in yours, clearly showing disrespect."

Ever since Cui Yushi learned that Yunfan had a close relationship with the school beauty, Shang Tongtong, due to 'Mech Battle,' he had been looking at Yunfan with disdain.

'Mech Battle' is the full name of a virtual online game where players can control mechs in battles. Many ordinary people who don’t have mechs use this game to experience being a mech warrior.

Real mech warriors can also use 'Mech Battle' to simulate real combat and improve their skills.

To allow ordinary people to operate mechs, the mechs connected to 'Mech Battle' are lighter than normal mechs. Yunfan’s combat skills are very strong, and he has achieved good results in 'Mech Battle,' making him well-known throughout Yuecheng Mech High School.

This is why he had the chance to meet Shang Tongtong, the school beauty of Yuecheng Mech High School. Otherwise, their social statuses in real life would be completely different.

Cui Yushi’s incitement was very effective. Lu Shanggong, who was already like a fighting cock, became even more agitated and shouted, "Go to the playground and run ten laps! Don’t stop for even a second until you finish!"

Yunfan explained, "Teacher Lu, these days I’ve been busy with cultivation and improving my combat skills in 'Mech Battle.' I’ve been sleeping very little. Last night, I reached the peak of Dark Force, so I was quite tired, which is why I fell asleep in class. I absolutely did not mean to sleep during your class!"

Since the year 3000 of the ancient calendar, when 'Father of Ancient Martial Arts' Jiang Huagu awakened ancient martial arts and promoted them worldwide, the physical and mental abilities of all humans have greatly improved, and technology has developed rapidly, ushering in the New Era.

Ancient martial arts are divided into nine realms: Bright Force, Dark Force, Transformation Force, Hard Force, Innate, Three Flowers Gathered at the Top, Five Qi Converging at the Origin, Spirit Martial Unity, and Indestructible Body.

In the New Era, one’s realm in ancient martial arts determines their social status. Powerful martial arts techniques are kept within noble families, while ordinary families only have the most basic lower-level martial arts, which can only reach the Transformation Force realm at best.

Yunfan, from an ordinary family, only practiced lower-level martial arts techniques but managed to reach the peak of Dark Force by the time he was seventeen, in his senior year. This was a higher level than many noble family children who practiced higher-level martial arts techniques, indicating his extremely rapid cultivation speed.

Lu Shanggong did not show any joy at Yunfan reaching the peak of Dark Force. He said, "Your senior year is almost over. No matter how much you cultivate, you won’t break through to the Transformation Force realm. Why are you in such a hurry to cultivate?

Why are you in such a hurry to improve your combat skills? I ask you, how much do you know about the history of the New Era?

Do you know in which year 'Father of Mechs' Ji Daoqin created the first mech? Do you know in which year Ji Daoqin eliminated the Tianhai Star Lord, ushering in the era of interstellar migration for Earth?

Do you know in which year Earth faced the second major threat from genetic life forms? Do you know in which year Jiang Huagu and the Bashan Star Lord fought, and what mechs they used?"

Yunfan’s history grades were quite good. He answered, "In the 200th year of the New Era, 'Father of Mechs' Ji Daoqin created the first mech!

In the 210th year of the New Era, Ji Daoqin used his S-level mech to eliminate the Tianhai Star Lord, ushering in the era of interstellar migration for Earth!

In the 360th year of the New Era, Earth faced the second major threat from the genetic life forms of Bashan, who had learned Earth’s mech technology and became Earth’s greatest enemy.

In the 366th year of the New Era, 'Father of Ancient Martial Arts' Jiang Huagu used the highest-level SSS mech to fight the Bashan Star Lord, who also used an SSS mech. They battled in deep space and both disappeared!"

"Teacher Lu, I really like the history of the New Era and am very familiar with it. As a mech warrior, I feel deeply proud.

I am in a hurry to cultivate and improve my combat skills because I want to participate in the high school mech league and achieve a good ranking. Please understand."

After Yunfan finished speaking, he glanced out the window, his eyes full of hope.

Outside the window, next to the playground, there was a huge billboard advertising the high school mech league. The preliminary rounds started on April 1st, which was tomorrow, and the official competition began on May 15th, with a one-and-a-half-month preliminary period.

Many noble family students sneered, and Cui Yushi mocked, "You, wanting to participate in the high school mech league? Do you think that just because you have some achievements in 'Mech Battle,' you can defeat stronger opponents in real combat?

Ha... 'Mech Battle' is for ordinary people. Real combat depends on the strength of the warrior. The stronger you are, the more powerful you become. Your cultivation hasn’t even reached the Transformation Force realm, so participating in the high school mech league will only make you look foolish!

Oh... right, you don’t even have the chance to look foolish, because you won’t even pass the preliminary rounds of the high school mech league!"

Yunfan frowned slightly. He and Cui Yushi had no grudges, but the latter’s repeated targeting of him was a bit too much.

Lu Shanggong said, "Class monitor Cui is right. Although 'Mech Battle' has some training effects for real combat, it is not the same as real combat. Real mechs are much heavier and more difficult to operate. Without strong personal strength, you can’t bring out the true power of the mech."

After a pause, Lu Shanggong saw that Yunfan was still standing there and continued, "What are you still standing there for? Go outside and run ten laps. Let me advise you, the high school mech league requires at least Transformation Force warriors at the entry level. This is not something ordinary students can achieve in high school. This is a competition among noble family children. Don’t have unrealistic expectations!"

These words were harsh and hurtful. Most of the students in the class were from noble families, and they all held their heads high. Only a few outstanding ordinary students had the chance to attend the mech high school, and they now lowered their heads.

"I don’t believe that ordinary students have no chance to succeed!" Yunfan coldly snorted and quickly walked out of the classroom, heading to the playground to run.

Lu Shanggong watched Yunfan leave the classroom, then scanned the ordinary students in the class and said, "For ordinary students, being able to attend a mech high school means you have the chance to become a mech warrior, which is already a great achievement. Don’t be like Yunfan, aiming too high. It’s not a good idea!"

On the playground, Yunfan ran. For a peak Dark Force warrior, running ten laps on the playground was not a big deal. Yunfan had explained to Lu Shanggong and didn’t want to come out and be punished, to avoid losing face.

Now that he was out, he was determined. He ran along the track, his eyes often lingering on the billboard advertising the high school mech league, filled with hope.

"I must participate in the mech league and win first place!"

Yunfan thought to himself, his gaze resolute.

For ordinary students, participating in the high school mech league was already unusual. Wanting to win first place? That was a pipe dream.

In class, Yunfan had only said he wanted to participate in the high school mech league and was mocked. He didn’t dare to mention his desire to win first place!

"For Xiaoxuan, I must win first place! I can’t let Xiaoxuan become a genetic monster!"

Yunfan clenched his teeth, his eyes burning with determination.

Since Earth entered the interstellar age and stepped onto other planets, genetic life forms have always been a major threat to Earth.

Genetic life forms, like Earth’s martial artists, are products of technological civilization, but they have different directions. Earth’s martial artists strengthen their bodies through cultivation of ancient martial arts, while genetic life forms enhance their bodies through genetic drugs.

Genetic warriors, like ancient martial arts realms, are divided into nine levels. At the same level, genetic warriors are slightly weaker than ancient martial artists, but genetic warriors can directly enhance their levels through genetic drugs, while ancient martial artists rely on personal cultivation, which is much more difficult. In terms of numbers, ancient martial artists are far fewer than genetic warriors.

Therefore, at the beginning, Earth was at a disadvantage against genetic life forms. Once, genetic life forms even invaded Earth and released genetic viruses, causing most Earth’s organisms to undergo genetic mutations.

Some animals, after genetic mutations, rapidly grew in size and strength, becoming genetic monsters. Humans infected with genetic viruses would also undergo genetic mutations, leading to various changes and eventually becoming genetic monsters.

This was the darkest era of Earth since the New Era. A large number of Earth’s people were infected with genetic viruses and turned into genetic monsters. 'Father of Ancient Martial Arts' Jiang Huagu led Earth’s people in a desperate defense, preserving the pure bloodline of Earth’s people.

Until the 200th year of the New Era, 'Father of Mechs' Ji Daoqin developed mechs. The combination of martial artists and mechs greatly enhanced their strength. At the same level, martial artists were slightly stronger than genetic warriors, and a single mech warrior could sweep through an army of genetic warriors of the same level.

Since then, Earth has had a decisive advantage over genetic life forms and launched counterattacks against extraterrestrial genetic life forms.

However, Earth had already been infected by genetic viruses. While uninfected organisms still had pure bloodlines, the offspring of infected organisms were all genetic mutants.

First, the genetic monsters on Earth were endless and could not be completely eradicated. Second, both ancient martial artists and mech warriors needed real enemies to hone their combat skills, and genetic monsters were the best targets.

Therefore, even though Earth had entered the interstellar age and found multiple habitable planets for migration, genetic monsters still existed on Earth, opposing humans.

Back then, one of the major reasons for Earth’s large-scale migration was the presence of genetic monsters, which carried genetic viruses and posed a significant threat to humans.

In the 1000th year of the New Era, Yunfan was born into an ordinary family in Yuecheng. Three years later, his family welcomed a new baby, his younger sister, Yunxuan.

Now, Yunxuan attends Yuecheng No. 105 Middle School. Half a month ago, No. 105 Middle School was attacked by genetic monsters. Although the genetic monsters were quickly eliminated by the city guard’s mech warriors, Yunxuan was unfortunately attacked by a genetic monster and infected with a genetic virus.

Genetic viruses have always been a challenge for Earth. Even though the genetic virus that infected Yunxuan was not of a high level, it was still difficult to treat. For a family like Yunfan’s, facing a genetic virus was helpless, and they could not afford the precious detoxification drugs.

At most, within three months, if the genetic virus is not cleared, it will cause genetic mutations, and Yunxuan will become a genetic monster!

Thinking of his sister Yunxuan, Yunfan’s eyes burned with even more determination, his resolve unshakable:

"I... must win first place in the high school mech league. That way, I will receive a reward of one million federal coins, which will be enough to buy the detoxification drugs for Xiaoxuan.

And... the first place in the high school mech league will also be rewarded with a B-level mech, which is the treasure I have always dreamed of!"

Mechs, like ancient martial artists and genetic warriors, are divided into nine levels, from lowest to highest: A, B, C, D, E, F, S, SS, and SSS levels!

Mechs are much more powerful than ancient martial artists and genetic warriors. An A-level mech has the strength equivalent to a fourth-level ancient martial artist or a fourth-level genetic warrior, and because mechs are impervious to weapons, they are even more powerful!

This means that a first-level ancient martial artist or a first-level genetic warrior, when operating an A-level mech, can defeat a fourth-level ancient martial artist or a fourth-level genetic warrior!

The importance of mechs is evident.
