Chapter 1 of 10

Chapter 1

8 min read2,003 words

The story is planned to be around 200 chapters, with a total of about one million characters, divided into eight to ten volumes. If everything goes smoothly, I think I can complete it in about a year, but I would be grateful if only those who have the time would follow along.

March 22, 2013 Addendum:

I thought it would be as mentioned above, but it seems it will be at least double, around 400 chapters and 2.5 million characters.

March 19, 2017 Addendum:

It seems 2.5 million characters won't be enough. I feel it will be around three million characters...

In the year 4030 of the Trias calendar, at the western end of the Trias continent, in the holy capital of Virtus, the capital of the Holy Kingdom of Eust Lucidus—commonly known as the "Silver Palace"—in its innermost chamber.

"Damn it! Arcwright! Fall back!"

Two knights clad in silver plate mail ran through the palace garden, which was bathed in the twilight. Dozens of monsters were chasing them. These monsters were asymmetrical, like abstract paintings, with human body parts such as eyes, mouths, and limbs attached without regard for size or position, creating a grotesque appearance that evoked a visceral sense of disgust. The eyes of these monsters showed no emotion, but they had a hollow, despair-inducing gaze.

Despite losing many of their comrades, the two knights were fleeing, using their swords and spears to hold off the pursuing monsters as they headed toward a certain room.

"Arcwright, this is your final order. I'll hold them off here. You protect His Majesty and the royal family."

The young knight called Arcwright replied,

"B-but... Captain, you should protect His Majesty..."

Before he could finish, the older knight interrupted him.

"There's no time to argue! Besides, you can't hold them off!"

The older knight swung his sword and shouted, "Get out of the way! Go now!"

Ray Arcwright tried to argue but, upon confirming the approaching monsters, bowed to the older knight and silently ran down the white corridor. The remaining knight watched him go, then a sly smile appeared on his face.

"You won't get past here! I won't let you near His Majesty!"

He raised his sword and charged at the dozens of monsters.

Ray didn't look back. If he did, he might hesitate, feeling guilty about sending his respected senior to certain death alone, and end up following him.

(Captain's final order must be followed... I can't face the comrades who died to let me escape... Protecting His Majesty is the only way to repay Captain and the others...)

He held back his tears and entered the room with the teleportation magic circle.

(His Majesty should have already arrived in Jilsol, the kingdom on the eastern island. No one is behind me... I must destroy the magic circle as soon as I teleport...)

In the dimly lit room, he poured oil on the floor to avoid being tracked and set it on fire. The flames spread quickly, and by the time he stepped into the magic circle in the center of the room, the oil was burning fiercely, illuminating the room as bright as day.

As he began to chant the teleportation spell, the magic circle glowed white, indicating the spell was activating.

At that moment, a heavy impact hit his head. A large object had fallen from the ceiling. He was so focused on preparing the teleportation spell that he didn't notice the object—a type of chaos monster that had been outside—falling.

"What? Damn it! There's one here too..."

He tried to pull the monster off, but its two arms, of different lengths and thicknesses, were stronger than he expected. The monster extended tentacle-like appendages toward his head. Multiple tentacles pierced his forehead, ears, and the back of his head, causing him to scream in agony.

"Ah! Stop! Don't eat my memories, my soul! Stop!"

It was said that these monstrous beings fed on human memories. Indeed, those who were rescued after being attacked by these monsters had lost their memories and emotions.

He drew his sword and stabbed the monster, but the tentacles glowed with a strange light and continued to burrow into his head.

(I can't... I have to rewrite the magic circle before I die... If I don't, His Majesty... the people of my homeland...)

In his fading consciousness, he pulled out the spear on his back and began to scratch out part of the magic circle. The special characters in the circle began to disappear, and the white glow of the circle started to fade.

(Now the teleportation spell won't activate... Captain, I'm sorry. I couldn't follow your orders... At least I can take this one with me...)

With his last strength, he channeled magic into the spear in his right hand. The spear emitted a blinding light, which extended toward the monster.

The monster was pierced by the white light, spewing blood with a gurgling sound, but its tentacles continued to glow eerily.

He fell to the floor, his eyes gradually losing their light. The monster, which had been impaled by the spear when he fell, also died.

In the room where the two had met their end, the oil on the floor continued to burn, consuming the bodies of the knight and the monster, purifying everything.

Just as it seemed the room would be completely destroyed by the fire, the magic circle, which had once gone dark, began to glow again. Ray Arcwright's body was enveloped in a silver light, which soon completely surrounded him.

The light suddenly faded, leaving only the red flames. However, only the monster's corpse remained; the body of the young man called Ray Arcwright was gone.

This fact went unnoticed, and the room, along with the magic circle, was completely burned to ashes.

---

This is a small city in the Kanto region.

On a chilly day in March, a young man named Rei Sei, who is about to turn 19 and looks like a middle school student, was busy preparing for his upcoming university life.

(It's taking longer than I thought. I should have started preparing earlier...)

He had decided on a boarding house near the university, completed the necessary procedures, and was now sorting out the items he would take with him. However, it was taking longer than expected because he had to check each item carefully.

(This book I'll take, but what was the content of this one?...)

Every time he found a light novel or a collection of weapon and magic materials that he liked, he would read through them, and his surroundings were piled high with such books. He had started in the morning, and it was already getting dark by the time he finished sorting the books.

(Phew. Finally finished sorting the books. Next, I need to pack my computer. I should take a backup of the data first.)

He turned on his computer and started taking a backup of the data.

(Ah! This is the novel I was writing last year... It's nostalgic. How far did I get?)

He opened the file of his debut work, "Trinitas Mundus," which he had paused writing due to his exams. The story was about a high school girl who is reincarnated in a world of swords and magic.

The plot involved the protagonist, an archery club ace, being reincarnated into a hunter's family in a small village between two powerful nations. After enduring hardships, she uses her archery skills and modern knowledge to survive. The story had progressed to the end of her teenage years, where her village was attacked by demons, and she was the only survivor, rescued by an adventurer. The adventurer took her in, and she was trying to stand on her own, encouraged by the adventurer in her despair.

He had stopped writing at this point.

(The next part was supposed to be the city being attacked by demons, right? The plot... Where did I put it?)

He searched for the plot but couldn't find a file with a similar name in the folder.

(Did I accidentally delete it? I'll check the other files...)

He opened files one by one but couldn't find the plot. Then he found a file named "Transfer Settings" and, wondering if this was it, double-clicked the icon. Suddenly, the computer screen turned white, and the room was enveloped in light.

"Whoa! What's happening!?"

He shouted in surprise but was knocked off his chair by the intense light and lost consciousness.

---

Rei woke up to the smell of damp grass, which he never smelled in his room.

(What happened? The computer suddenly glowed... I can't remember...)

His consciousness was still hazy, and he shook his head repeatedly.

(My head feels heavy... Why am I wearing a helmet?)

He noticed the helmet when he shook his head and realized he was wearing it. When he raised his hand to his face to remove the helmet, he also noticed that his hands were in metal gauntlets. He quickly checked his body.

(What? Gauntlets? I'm wearing plate armor and have a sword on my hip... Who dressed me in this cosplay outfit?)

He stood up, confused, and examined his appearance. At first, he thought it was a cheap costume, but when he tapped it, he realized it was a thick, genuine suit of armor. However, it wasn't as heavy as he expected, making it feel less real.

(But where am I? This cosplay outfit is too elaborate to be a prank...)

He looked around slowly. Large trees with diameters exceeding one meter towered around him, and sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a dense, forest-like atmosphere. The ground was covered with green moss, low shrubs, and fern-like plants, but there were no signs of human activity.

(Where am I? Am I dreaming? Take a deep breath and stay calm. Try to remember what happened...)

He tried to recall the events, but the only thing he could remember was being in his room, looking at his computer.

(My name is... Rei Sei. I'm 18, and I'll be 19 in two months... I was preparing to move to Tokyo for university... I was backing up my data and organizing the "Trinitas Mundus" file... I can't remember anything after that...)

He looked around again and noticed something different.

(The height of my line of sight feels higher? I can't compare, but I feel taller...)

He was usually around 160 cm tall, on the shorter side. He couldn't tell exactly how much taller he was, but he felt at least 20 cm taller. He examined his appearance further. He was wearing silver plate armor, leg armor of the same color, leather boots, and a white cloak. His skin, visible through the gaps in the armor, was pale, like that of a Caucasian. He had a straight sword, about a meter long, on his left hip, and a spear, about two meters long, lay at his feet. The spear, including the handle, was made of silver metal, with a cross-shaped tip about 30 cm long.

(If this isn't a dream, it must be a trip to another world. If my body is different, it must be a reincarnation. No way... ha ha ha...)

The sensations were too vivid to be a dream, and he started to think it wasn't a dream at all. He searched his pockets and bags for his belongings but found nothing except the spear. He had no backpack or other containers.

(My belongings are just weapons and armor... No food or water... If this is a dream, it's fine. If it's real... I need to move. I have to find people to help me survive...)

He quickly shifted to a practical mindset. His experience of always thinking about what he would do in his novels might have influenced this. Of course, he had no survival experience, and the only way he knew to obtain food was from books. Relying on such uncertain knowledge, he began to wander through the forest.
