Chapter 6: Anger Rises from the Heart (Part 1)
6 min read1,583 words
The human body is the most intricate and complex "instrument" in the world, especially when it comes to the mysteries of the brain. Even in the federal era, the areas we can explore are still very limited. In the past, even organ transplants, where a person's organs were transplanted into another's body, would still trigger an instinctive rejection response from the immune system, no matter how successful the match. How much more so when it comes to forcibly merging the minds of two people?
This resistance, rooted in the consciousness, is perhaps the last counterattack of this body. To completely eliminate the隐患, Wang Yue's only option is to align with the residual consciousness of this body, find out the truth behind his death, and avenge him. Otherwise, his body and consciousness will never fully align. While there may be no immediate issues, over time, he will definitely fall ill, and once he falls ill, he will die, with no cure available. Most terrifyingly, at that point, his spirit will be trapped in this body, unable to escape. When the body dies, he will truly die.
"Repay grievances with grievances, and revenge for enmity," this can also be explained by the "deliverance" recorded in some Buddhist scriptures.
Deliverance can bring peace to the dead. Although ancient beliefs may not be scientifically credible and were once dismissed as superstition, after many years, when science has advanced enough to explain such phenomena, one will suddenly realize how respectable and awe-inspiring ancient religious wisdom is.
Wang Yue's gaze swept over the crowd and stopped on the last stretcher. The person on it was clearly a child, completely covered by a large white sheet. A memory flashed in his mind of a doll-like, adorable figure often playing at the street corner...
This was Old Tom's youngest daughter, named "Eliza," a child he had at over fifty years old. Compared to his eldest daughter's rebelliousness and lack of concern, Old Tom's love for this youngest daughter was boundless, pouring out all the affection a father could give.
Eliza.
This child was only five years old.
He vaguely remembered the sweet voice of the child who had hugged his leg and called him "Brother Wang Yue" when he entered the shop. The memory flooded his mind, and the veins on his temples bulged as he felt a suffocating sensation, causing his whole body to tremble involuntarily.
"Who could be so heartless, not even sparing a five-year-old child?" His gaze fixed on the small body on the stretcher, and then he saw a man, who looked like a forensic doctor, walk out of the room, holding a transparent evidence bag. Inside was a small, blood-soaked underwear with a yellow bear pattern.
His pupils constricted, and his fingers twitched slightly. Wang Yue took a deep breath and watched as the police finally sealed the antique shop's doors and windows with tape before he quietly walked out of the crowd.
He looked up at the scorching sun, but felt no heat. The sunlight shone on his face, but his heart felt cold and burning (this is not an exaggeration; in extreme cold, one can feel heat).
Wang Yue turned and walked to the lamppost at the street corner, watching the crowd from a distance. When this body died, there were no visible wounds, as if he had died in his sleep, overwhelmed by extreme fatigue, both physically and mentally. Once he lay down, he never got up again.
This situation was clearly different from the current state of Old Tom's family. A five-year-old girl, dead, covered in blood...
Killing a family of five, was it to eliminate witnesses, or was there another hidden reason?
The more Wang Yue pondered, the more he felt the case was full of doubts, which is why he decided to continue observing.
"Human nature is fickle, especially for those who have deviated from the norm and do not value human life. Their minds are twisted, and whether they kill with a purpose or not, some people cannot control their actions and will often return to the scene of their crime, reminiscing and reflecting, to gain immense psychological satisfaction as both a participant and an observer."
This is within the realm of criminal psychology. Wang Yue's father, Wang Chaozong, was a police officer who had a deep understanding of criminal psychology. He would occasionally discuss cases with his family, providing professional analysis and judgment. Over time, Wang Yue gained a basic understanding of criminal psychology.
Combined with his past experience and knowledge, Wang Yue instinctively believed that there might be some unexpected clues among the onlookers.
Like people on Earth, the people in this world also enjoy spectacles. Especially when someone close to them dies unexpectedly, it ignites a great curiosity among the surrounding people.
Although the bodies had been removed and the police were about to leave, the crowd in front of Old Tom's shop continued to grow, with various speculations and theories. Wang Yue's gaze swept over the faces, and he saw a variety of expressions—indifference, curiosity, fear, sorrow—on these seemingly familiar yet strange faces. Finally, his gaze settled on two tall young men at the edge of the crowd.
These two men were in their twenties, one with a shaved head and a green scorpion tattoo on the back of his head, the other wearing a leather jacket with metal chains and a large copper ring in his ear.
They stood in the crowd, not whispering to each other like others, and their faces showed no expression. However, Wang Yue clearly saw that their eyes were vigilantly and secretly watching the police who were packing up. Occasionally, they would exchange quick glances, revealing no interest in the spectacle.
Wang Yue observed for a while, identified the remaining people in the crowd, and then turned back to the two men, a cold smile forming on his lips.
A few minutes later, as the police cars left the street, the two men also squeezed out of the crowd and headed towards the commercial pedestrian street.
Wang Yue straightened up, yawned, and put his hands in his pockets, walking slowly behind them like a carefree teenager strolling down the street, maintaining a distance of several dozen meters.
These two men were clearly not there for the spectacle. They were too calm and indifferent, and their eyes were always on the police. If there was nothing to hide, that would be strange. However, this alone could not determine that they were directly involved in Old Tom's family's death. After waiting for so long and finally finding a clue, Wang Yue was not about to give up easily.
He decided to follow them. Even though his current mental strength was much weaker than before, in this primitive world, it still far exceeded that of an average adult. His sharp mind made it easy to follow these two men without being detected.
However, he did not expect that after leaving the alley, they would turn and enter a bar across the street from the commercial street, and then not come out.
Yorkshire has distinct seasons, with hot summers and cold winters. Due to the tourism industry, there are many bars and nightclubs in the bustling areas. Most tourists and locals enjoy chatting with friends and drinking local ice-clear brandy in their free time.
However, bars are places with high foot traffic and a mix of people, often involving hidden illegal transactions. Therefore, most bars are not purely social venues and have some connection to the underworld. For example, the bar called "Wildfire" where these two men entered, being able to operate and thrive in the busiest commercial street, indicates certain issues.
Although Wang Yue usually does not enter bars or drink, he had helped Uncle Wu in the shop on this street for a year, so he was not unfamiliar with the nearby Wildfire bar. He had even received the bar's orders for decorative ceramics on behalf of Uncle Wu a few times.
After waiting for a while and seeing no sign of the two men coming out, Wang Yue frowned and found a nearby coffee shop to sit down, ordering a cup of coffee. From the window, he could see the entrance of the bar. He waited for six to seven hours until it was dark, and the two men finally came out of the bar, one after the other.
Summer days are long, with early sunrises and late sunsets. Around nine in the evening, the commercial street was at its busiest, and the city's nightlife was just beginning. The streets were filled with young men and women.
The two men walked and talked in low voices, occasionally looking back, showing great vigilance. Despite this, they never noticed Wang Yue following them from behind.
"Jack, how many times did you get to go last night? Old Tom's daughter looked ordinary, but who knew she could be so enjoyable once undressed! Unfortunately, there were too many people, and I only got to go twice until dawn..."
"Wasn't there a younger one? If you couldn't resist, you could have tried her."
"Spit, although I am lustful, I am not a pervert... You know the boss's temper. No girl he likes ever survives. But, to be fair, Old Tom's family has been on this street for over ten years, and they paid a substantial monthly fee. Why did the boss...?"
