Chapter 24: The Enigmatic Fox Steps

The appearance of the beautiful and cunning fox, Elder Situ Ya, made Lin Hai and Shen Chen, who were at loggerheads, stop their confrontation, and the surrounding inner disciples also left one after another.

Thus, the commotion was quelled.

However, through this so-called exchange, Shen Chen's name quickly spread throughout the inner sect of the Flowing Cloud Sect!

To be able to fight to a draw with Lin Hai, who was ranked fifth among the hundreds of inner disciples and was at the sixth level of the Blood Fusion Realm, with only the third level of the Blood Fusion Realm, such a feat was enough to make Shen Chen's name go down in the annals of the Flowing Cloud Sect!

For a time, almost all the inner and outer disciples were talking about the brilliance of Shen Chen's battle with Lin Hai, making Shen Chen the hottest figure in the entire Flowing Cloud Sect. This also made Shen Chen an idol to countless disciples of the Flowing Cloud Sect.

However, Shen Chen himself was very clear that his current strength was merely at the third level of the Blood Fusion Realm. The reason he could luckily fight to a draw with Lin Hai was entirely due to the sudden infusion of energy from the mysterious mirror in his mind. Otherwise, with Shen Chen's strength, he would not have been able to sustain the execution of the "Nine Shadows" for long!

Moreover, even now, Shen Chen could not fully unleash the power of the first move of the "Nine Shadows," the "Netherworld Ghost Slash"!

In short, for Shen Chen to defeat Lin Hai, he still had a long way to go!

After all the disciples left, Shen Chen and Wang Yue also walked towards their own rooms. At this moment, a voice suddenly sounded in Shen Chen's ear.

"Wait for me on the back mountain later!"

Shen Chen was taken aback but then acted as if nothing had happened, and with Wang Yue's support, he walked towards his room.

After returning to the room, with Wang Yue's help, Shen Chen hastily bandaged himself and took a few Body Tempering Pills. Then, under the pretext of going out for some fresh air, he quietly made his way to the back mountain.

The so-called back mountain was the back of Yunlan Peak, the headquarters of the inner sect of the Flowing Cloud Sect!

Yunlan Peak stood alone, with extremely steep terrain. However, after the efforts of the Flowing Cloud Sect disciples over several hundred years, Yunlan Peak had become very flat and spacious.

However, the back of Yunlan Peak was still extremely dangerous, with wild beasts and spirit beasts appearing frequently, and it was even rumored that third and fourth-stage spirit beasts had appeared there. Therefore, few people would go to the back mountain.

Carefully and cautiously, Shen Chen bypassed one steep rock wall after another, and after more than half an hour, he finally arrived at an open area on the back mountain.

At this moment, a figure in purple was already waiting there!

Hearing Shen Chen's footsteps, the purple-clad figure turned around, and it was none other than Situ Ya, one of the five elders of the Flowing Cloud Sect, known as the "Beautiful and Cunning Fox"!

"Disciple greets Elder Situ!" Shen Chen hurriedly bowed.

"Hmm! Are your injuries alright?" Situ Ya nodded and then asked with concern.

"Thank you for your concern, Elder Situ! Disciple is fine! I wonder why Elder Situ has called me here?" Shen Chen asked.

"Didn't expect you to really master the first move of the 'Nine Shadows'! Very impressive!" Situ Ya looked at Shen Chen and nodded in approval.

By watching the exchange between Shen Chen and Lin Hai, Situ Ya discovered that Shen Chen could indeed execute the first move of the "Nine Shadows," the "Netherworld Ghost Slash." This made Situ Ya look at Shen Chen with new eyes!

After all, in the past hundred years, countless highly talented disciples of the Flowing Cloud Sect had tried to cultivate the "Nine Shadows," but all ended in failure, wasting their time.

Shen Chen had only been cultivating the "Nine Shadows" for a little over half a month, yet he had actually succeeded!

Such talent could not help but make Situ Ya take notice, and thus she had the intention to nurture talent, secretly inviting Shen Chen to the back mountain to meet her.

"Thank you for your praise, Senior!" Shen Chen bowed and said.

Shen Chen was very clear that the reason Situ Ya had secretly asked him to wait for her on the back mountain was that she must have seen great potential in him and wanted to guide him. If Shen Chen showed too much excitement or arrogance, it might make Situ Ya look down on him.

Therefore, Shen Chen tried to maintain a composed demeanor.

"Hmm! However, although you can execute the Netherworld Ghost Slash, your speed is somewhat lacking, which greatly reduces its power! If you could combine it with a technique to enhance your speed, the power of your Netherworld Ghost Slash would increase significantly!" Situ Ya said calmly.

Seeing that Shen Chen was not at all arrogant and instead remained very humble, Situ Ya's impression of him improved even more, so she spoke frankly about his shortcomings.

"Senior is right! I have indeed noticed this, but to obtain a technique to enhance speed is very difficult..." Shen Chen sighed.

Although Shen Chen could choose any human-grade technique upon entering the inner sect, he had already used this opportunity to choose the "Nine Shadows." With his current strength at the third level of the Blood Fusion Realm, he would have to wait until he broke through to the fourth level of the Blood Fusion Realm to choose another technique.

Moreover, in the library, techniques to enhance speed were extremely rare, and finding one suitable for him was even harder!

"Unfortunately, you haven't reached the sixth level of the Blood Fusion Realm yet, otherwise... Alas! It's a pity... However, I have a small booklet here, which contains some of my cultivation insights. Take it and have a look!" Situ Ya smiled, took out a thin booklet from her chest, and handed it to Shen Chen.

"Thank you, Elder Situ!" Shen Chen was overjoyed and excitedly took the booklet.

The booklet still carried the warmth of Situ Ya's body and the indescribable fragrance and sweetness of her, making Shen Chen's heart flutter.

Shen Chen was very clear that the reason Situ Ya said it was a pity that he hadn't reached the sixth level of the Blood Fusion Realm was that only after reaching the sixth level could one be taken as a personal disciple by the five elders!

In the Flowing Cloud Sect, each of the five inner sect elders could only choose up to three personal disciples. When the five inner sect elders stepped down, they would choose one from among their three personal disciples to succeed them as an inner sect elder.

This showed the esteemed status of the personal disciples of the inner sect elders!

Many people vied to become personal disciples of the inner sect elders but could not achieve it. Shen Chen, without doing anything, was noticed by Elder Situ Ya, and if others knew, they would likely be envious to the point of jealousy!

Shen Chen did not think much about it and directly opened the booklet. He saw the four large characters "Enigmatic Fox Steps," which were the fox steps that Situ Ya was famous for!

"Thank you, Elder Situ!" Shen Chen shouted excitedly, but when he looked up, Situ Ya was already gone.

Shen Chen understood that the reason Situ Ya left was to avoid being seen, as the "Enigmatic Fox Steps" were Situ Ya's exclusive technique, which could not be privately taught to anyone except personal disciples.

Shen Chen bowed deeply in the direction where Situ Ya had stood, then put away the booklet and quickly left along the original path.

Shen Chen did not realize that at the top of Yunlan Peak, two figures were standing in the mountain breeze, their eyes fixed on him.

"What do you think of this young man?" one of the elders said calmly.

"He is no ordinary person! Perhaps the rise of the Flowing Cloud Sect should begin with him!" the middle-aged man nodded slightly and said.

"Situ Ya's eyes are indeed sharp! With today's gift of the technique, this young man will surely become Situ Ya's personal disciple!" the elder who spoke first shook his head helplessly, his face full of regret.
