After settling Mo Zigui’s school matters, Wang Tian felt very relieved.
When tidying up the room, none of them came to help. The two young girls were used to being taken care of, and they thought it was normal for Wang Tian to be busy. One was his sister, and the other was his sister-in-law, so they thought it was natural for Wang Tian to take care of them.
Wang Tian didn’t need their help; they would just get in the way if they came.
After tidying up the room, he went to the market to buy groceries, preparing to cook a good meal for them at noon. He carefully selected the ingredients he liked, and after half an hour, he returned home with a large pile of groceries.
Back at home, he opened the door. Wang Yu and Mo Zigui were already out, sitting on the sofa watching TV.
"Brother"
"Brother-in-law"
The two young ladies greeted him.
"Today I bought so many ingredients, we’ll have a feast at noon." Wang Yu hadn’t tasted Wang Tian’s cooking for a long time, and the thought of the delicious food made her mouth water.
"Is Brother-in-law’s cooking really that good?" Mo Zigui tilted her head and asked curiously, looking rather cute.
"Of course, be careful not to eat your tongue off."
Wang Yu had already asked Mo Zigui why she called him brother-in-law when they were in the room. Many high school students were dating, so he didn’t find it strange.
"I’m looking forward to it," the little girl said.
Wang Tian went to the kitchen and started working. He was meticulous about food, and it always gave him a sense of accomplishment to see the people he cared for enjoying their meals.
He chopped the pork loin into uniform small pieces, steamed them in a pot first, then added flavoring and set them aside. Next, he prepared the second dish, peeling the cabbage leaves one by one, discarding the outermost few. He blanched the remaining leaves in boiling water and set them aside to dry. Then he started preparing the meat mince, using over ten different types...
Wang Yu felt that this time her brother was taking much longer to cook, making her even more eager for lunch.
After thirty minutes, the kitchen finally emitted a fragrant aroma.
A light, delicate scent wafted out.
Mo Zigui knelt on the sofa cushion, facing away from the TV and toward the kitchen. "Brother-in-law, hurry up, I can’t wait anymore." The smell had already made her stomach growl.
In the past, when she was in other people’s homes, she never made any demands. They weren’t her family, so she had to be careful not to upset them. She was naturally optimistic, so her personality wasn’t suppressed. But now it was different. Wang Tian was her brother-in-law, and she could make demands without feeling guilty. So she reverted to her innocent, playful nature, enjoying the privilege of being a little girl who could pout and act cute.
"Almost done."
Wang Tian was a perfectionist and wouldn’t bring anything out until it was completely finished.
After another ten minutes, the two young girls set up the folding table, with Mo Zigui wiping it down and Wang Yu fetching the chopsticks and setting them out. Then they sat at the table, waiting for the meal to start.
Wang Tian brought out a large soup bowl and placed it on the table.
"Brother, why are you making us eat cabbage? We’re not rabbits," Wang Yu complained first.
The soup bowl was a blue-and-white imitation, filled with a light green broth, in which a whole cabbage floated. It looked beautiful, but the dish seemed too simple.
Wang Tian handed them spoons. "Try it."
The two young girls took the spoons, scooped up some soup, and put it in their mouths.
Then their eyebrows relaxed, and the soup acted like a catalyst, fully awakening their taste buds. It was like a nectar, making them feel refreshed as it went down their throats.
"Too good! Brother-in-law, you’re amazing," Mo Zigui praised, her mouth resuming its natural function. The two young girls picked up a cabbage leaf and put it in their mouths.
The cabbage leaf was definitely not ordinary. The white core beneath the leaf was the essence of the dish. When they bit into it, the flavors of over ten different ingredients stimulated their taste buds, leaving a lingering aroma in their mouths. These flavors, some light and some strong, impacted their minds, making them feel incredibly refreshed, as if they were in a fairyland.
Wang Tian’s current cooking skill level was intermediate, and this dish, "Boiled Cabbage," was the best dish an intermediate chef could make.
"Eat quickly, don’t let him take it all," Wang Yu said to Mo Zigui. Since her brother could make it himself, she might as well fill her stomach first.
The two girls stuffed the cabbage into their mouths and started eating in large bites. This dish was meant to be savored slowly, with the tip of the tongue, to fully appreciate each flavor. But they didn’t need to be food critics; they were just food lovers.
Wang Tian was very happy. He cooked for them, and if he were alone, he would probably just eat instant noodles.
This dish wasn’t the main course, and it didn’t take long for them to finish the whole cabbage, making them feel like rabbits.
"Sorry, Brother-in-law, it’s just that you cooked it so well," Mo Zigui said apologetically. She had never tasted such delicious food in ordinary families before. She thought this brother-in-law was really great.
"We’re still not full," Wang Yu said, sipping the soup.
"Don’t worry, there’s more," Wang Tian said, going back to the kitchen. "Xiao Yu, come in and help with the food."
Wang Yu went into the kitchen, and Mo Zigui followed to serve the rice.
The previous dish was just an appetizer; now came the main course.
Wang Tian sat down and joined them for the meal.
The second dish was sweet and sour pork, a true accompaniment to the meal.
"It’s so beautiful, I don’t even want to eat it," Mo Zigui said, picking up a piece. The pork loin was crystal clear, like red jade. This dish was a feast for the eyes, much more appealing than the previous cabbage.
The two girls put it in their mouths, savoring the sweet and slightly sour flavors, which were very satisfying to chew.
"This taste…"
"Brother-in-law, what’s the name of this dish?" Mo Zigui asked.
"Sweet and sour pork."
"That name isn’t good. Let me give it a better name…" Mo Zigui thought for a moment. "Let’s call it ‘Sweeter than First Love.’"
"Good name," Wang Yu clapped her hands. "The sweetness with a hint of sourness… it’s like the happiness of liking someone, and the slight sourness is like the quarrels between young lovers, which seem unpleasant but are actually a form of happiness… Isn’t this the feeling of first love?"
This dish was indeed a dish for girls.
The two young girls started talking about love, and they spoke with great confidence.
"Hey, how old are you to know about first love? Wang Yu, are you in an early relationship?" Wang Tian asked, surprised by her thorough analysis of first love.
"I’m not…" Wang Yu showed her dissatisfaction.
"And you, a little girl, how did you come up with such a name?" Wang Tian remembered that Mo Zigui was just a few months away from turning 13. "Brother-in-law, don’t think we don’t know anything. Many of my classmates are already dating…"
Actually, she wanted to say that some of them had even gone to hotels.
Wang Tian made the sweet and sour pork as the main dish, enough to fill them up.
"You two go wash the dishes," Wang Tian said.
"As you command," the two young girls said, very happy after their meal, mimicking the actions of maids from TV shows.
They started dividing the tasks to clear the table.
