Chapter Twelve: The Blonde Woman in the Neighborhood
Leng Hanyan smiled and said, "I've bought them. Here, take them."
She handed a large package to Lin Chen and then curiously walked into his room.
The room was small, consisting of a single room, a toilet, and a small stove.
The space could only fit a bed, a computer desk, and a chair. It was so small that Leng Hanyan almost bumped into Lin Chen's bed as soon as she stepped in.
"Uncomfortable with this small rental, aren't you? If you're not used to it, you can just go back," Lin Chen said, thinking about refining the pills after receiving the herbs.
Leng Hanyan gave him a slightly annoyed look, "Are you in such a hurry to get rid of me?"
She sat down on Lin Chen's bed and smiled, "Who said I'm not used to it? Do you think I've been a pampered lady all my life, waiting for food and clothes? This place is small, but it feels cozy, just a bit messy."
"Messy? Nonsense. I cleaned it last night," Lin Chen said, surprised that she seemed completely at ease, but he rebutted her comment about the mess.
Leng Hanyan pointed to a few corners, "Look, these places aren't clean. Where's your broom?" She saw the broom by the toilet door and was about to grab it.
Lin Chen quickly held her hand, "No, no, Miss, what are you doing? I'll clean my own room."
"Hmph! You don't appreciate my kindness!" Leng Hanyan said angrily.
Then she curiously asked Lin Chen, "Lin Chen, you're so skilled in medicine, why do you live in such a place?"
Lin Chen didn't answer. He couldn't say that he had just received his inheritance and that his previous salary could only afford this place.
Seeing Lin Chen's silence, Leng Hanyan didn't press further. She just sat on Lin Chen's bed, curiously looking around the room, as if everything about Lin Chen fascinated her.
Lin Chen said helplessly, "Aren't you leaving...?"
Leng Hanyan pouted, "It's the weekend today, and I don't have anything to do."
You have nothing to do, but I do, Miss, Lin Chen thought, but he couldn't say it directly, after all, she had just bought things for him.
The first time he met Leng Hanyan, she was clearly an ice queen, cold and distant, speaking as little as possible. How did she suddenly become like a little girl? Women are indeed fickle.
They say that once the ice melts, there's a volcano underneath. Is Leng Hanyan like that? But he hadn't done anything to melt this ice queen.
What Lin Chen didn't know was that Leng Hanyan was a medical enthusiast, and she was incredibly curious about his medical skills. After treating patients twice, she had even developed a bit of admiration for him. Especially last night, Lin Chen's appearance was like a prince in a fairy tale, rescuing her from danger, making her unable to forget him.
Lin Chen could only say, "If you want to sit, sit. Do as you please."
He then opened the herbs Leng Hanyan had brought, checking and counting them. At first, he nodded in satisfaction, but then he frowned, "Something's not right."
Leng Hanyan asked curiously, "What's wrong? Did you buy the wrong herbs?"
Lin Chen looked at her intently, "Did you add money to buy more herbs?"
He knew the prices of various herbs, and 100,000 yuan couldn't buy so much. Leng Hanyan must have added at least 20,000 to 30,000 yuan.
Leng Hanyan said nonchalantly, "You scared me, I thought you bought the wrong ones. A few herbs looked good, so I bought more. You... you should take care of your health more..."
Lin Chen asked, puzzled, "Why are you blushing?"
"Huh? Am I blushing?" Leng Hanyan touched her face, which was indeed a bit warm. She couldn't say that he needed to take care of his health because of his kidney problems.
She said shyly, "Just take care of your health. I didn't add much money."
Lin Chen shook his head, "No, no, no. I can't accept unearned favors. I treated Chen Tianpeng, and you helped me buy the herbs. That's even. You don't need to add money to buy more herbs for me. I'll return the extra herbs."
Seeing his eagerness to distance himself, Leng Hanyan felt both wronged and angry, "As you wish. If you return them, I'll just throw them away. You don't want them? Dog bites Lu Dongbin, not recognizing kindness!"
She sounded like a pouting little girl.
"Um... Okay then." Lin Chen didn't argue further, thinking for a moment, he put the herbs away and asked,
"Aren't you interested in learning my medical skills? Teaching you acupuncture directly would be too advanced. How about I explain some basic knowledge about human acupoints?"
"Ah! Really? You're willing to teach me medicine?" Leng Hanyan clapped her hands excitedly, not expecting him to agree.
Lin Chen had carefully considered teaching her.
On one hand, from last night, he could see that although Leng Hanyan seemed distant, she was very kind. Moreover, he wasn't planning to teach her advanced skills like acupuncture, pill refinement, or massage, just some basics. So it wasn't a big deal.
Even just these basics, if Leng Hanyan could understand and master them, it would significantly improve her medical skills.
"Really, I can't explain the advanced stuff, but I can teach you some basics about human meridians and acupoints. These are the foundations of acupuncture."
They sat down on the bed. Leng Hanyan's face was flushed with excitement, not expecting such a good opportunity today.
"Let's start with acupoints. There are countless acupoints in the human body, with 365 main ones. Each has its own function, and different combinations can have different effects. To understand the secrets of acupoints, you first need to understand the human meridian system, which mainly consists of the twelve regular meridians and the Ren and Du meridians..."
Lin Chen began to explain in detail. His face was serious, and at that moment, he wasn't just a poor boy living in a small rental; he was a medical sage. This unique aura made Leng Hanyan almost entranced.
"Why are you staring at me? Pay attention to what I'm saying. If you're really interested in traditional Chinese medicine, you need to master these basic, albeit dry, concepts."
Seeing Leng Hanyan staring at him in a daze, Lin Chen's heart skipped a beat. Why did he feel like a rabbit being watched by a wolf?
"Ah? Oh, oh..." Leng Hanyan snapped out of it, blushing, and then listened attentively.
Despite her best efforts, Leng Hanyan still found it hard to follow, mainly because her primary education was in Western medicine, though she had some knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine.
Moreover, what Lin Chen was explaining, while basic to him, was still difficult for others to understand. Many points were even challenging for renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, let alone Leng Hanyan.
However, despite not understanding much, Leng Hanyan listened very carefully, using her sharp mind to remember the parts she couldn't grasp.
Although she didn't understand many things, she could feel how precious this medical knowledge was, and her admiration for Lin Chen grew.
How could someone younger than her have such a deep understanding of traditional Chinese medicine, which has thousands of years of history?
Lin Chen would often pause to ask Leng Hanyan if she understood, and after hearing her responses, he would explain the difficult points more thoroughly.
Before they knew it, it was noon. Lin Chen felt it was enough and said to Leng Hanyan, "That's it for now. If you digest what I've taught you, it will definitely help you."
Leng Hanyan nodded happily, feeling that she had learned more today than she would in months of reading medical books. It was worth coming today.
Seeing it was already noon, Leng Hanyan said, "Lin Chen, let's go out for a walk this afternoon? I don't have anything to do anyway."
Lin Chen touched his nose, thinking that just because she had nothing to do didn't mean he didn't. He still had to refine the pills.
He said, "I'd rather not. I have something to do this afternoon."
"Oh?" Leng Hanyan asked curiously, "What do you have to do?"
Seeing Lin Chen hesitate and not explain what he had to do, Leng Hanyan assumed he was lying and pulled him out, "Come on, accompany me for a walk. I rarely get a day off."
Lin Chen had no choice but to accompany her downstairs and, under the envious and jealous gazes of a group of men, got into Leng Hanyan's Porsche and left the neighborhood.
