Chapter 22: Who is the Honored Guest

The waiter left.

Lai Gaojun's tone was filled with unhidden pride, yet his face wore a humble expression as he said,

"This Manager Huang is really too polite. It was just a bit of promotion for their restaurant in the magazine and a meal together, and he actually gave away a bottle of red wine worth hundreds of thousands of yuan without hesitation."

He looked at Lin Chen with a teasing smile, "Kid, you probably haven't had this kind of red wine, right? Romanée-Conti red wine, I bet you've never even heard of it. After all, your salary for a few years wouldn't be enough to buy this bottle!"

Lin Chen replied calmly, "I'm not interested in red wine."

Lai Gaojun sneered and mocked, "If you don't understand red wine, just say so. Claiming you're not interested is just a pretense to save face, how hypocritical! Drinking this red wine would be a waste for you. I think you're only fit to drink cheap beer that costs a few yuan a bottle."

Lin Chen shrugged, seemingly acknowledging his lack of knowledge about red wine and showing an indifferent attitude.

"Useless scum!" Lai Gaojun sneered.

Lai Gaojun poured himself a glass of red wine, sipped it with a pretense of elegance, and wore an expression of enjoyment.

In fact, he didn't know how to appreciate wine, but perhaps because of its high price, he found the red wine extremely delicious.

Despite not really understanding, he pretended to be an expert and commented, "The color is clear, the taste is pure, the balance is excellent, and the aftertaste is long. It's truly a red wine, ha ha, worth every penny of its hundreds of thousands of yuan price tag."

After saying this, he looked at Su Xiran with a hint of pride, "Miss Su, have you ever had the 1995 Romanée-Conti red wine?"

Lin Chen didn't speak, but Su Xiran was displeased.

"Um... Okay, let's not talk about this. Since we have the good fortune to meet Miss Su today and have such excellent red wine, why don't we enjoy a few glasses together?"

Lai Gaojun didn't expect Su Xiran to still be defending Lin Chen at this point. Although he was somewhat angry, he quickly suppressed his anger.

She put down the glass like a wronged little wife and pouted, "If I don't drink, I don't drink. Why are you so angry?"

Lin Chen didn't speak, but he downed the ordinary red wine in his glass in one gulp, as if to say he really didn't understand or care about red wine.

Although this red wine wasn't as expensive as Lai Gaojun's, it was unlikely that anyone else in the restaurant would drink it this way.

Lai Gaojun couldn't hold back his anger and shouted, "Kid, don't be too arrogant! What are you, to act so cocky in front of me? I warn you, get out of the restaurant now, or I'll call Manager Huang and have him kick you out, and that won't be pretty!"

It was clear that he was the one trying to seduce someone else's girlfriend, yet he acted as if he was the one being wronged, which was truly laughable and showed how arrogant and self-important he was.

Lin Chen lifted his head, and the cold gaze made Lai Gaojun suddenly shiver, swallow, and take a step back. He felt as if he was being stared at by a fierce lion, feeling a chill in his heart.

"What do you want? Do you want to hit someone here? Savage! Ridiculous!" Lai Gaojun, realizing his reaction was embarrassing, said angrily.

Lin Chen's tone was icy, "If you keep disturbing our meal, do you think I won't throw you out right now?"

As he spoke, his aura became fierce and intimidating, scaring Lai Gaojun, who felt as if he was facing a desperate thug.

"You... you..."

Lai Gaojun was momentarily speechless, but then he saw a somewhat plump, fair-skinned middle-aged man approaching and said happily, "Manager Huang! You came just in time. There's an insolent brat here, please help me deal with him. He's really disrespectful, dressed in cheap clothes, probably just a migrant worker, and he dared to talk back to me. It's really beyond his means! In the future, I suggest you never let this brat step into Green West Restaurant again, and put him on the blacklist."

Su Xiran was angry, "What right do you have to do this? Are you being reasonable? We paid, and we haven't caused any trouble. Why should Lin Chen be kicked out?"

However, Manager Huang said something that surprised everyone.

He laughed at Lai Gaojun, "Who said that red wine was given to you?"

Lai Gaojun was stunned as if he had been slapped, and he asked in surprise, "The waiter said this red wine was given to the honored guest by the boss. Wasn't it you, Manager Huang? Who else could be the honored guest here besides me?"

He looked at Lin Chen and Su Xiran, puzzled.

These two, one a model with no background and the other a poor kid, couldn't possibly be the honored guests, could they? What a joke!

Even Su Xiran was puzzled. Only Lin Chen, after a moment of surprise, had some suspicions.
