Chapter Thirty-Six: Liu Menglong
Liu Menglong, a name that was almost forgotten deep in Li Yunzai's memory. Suddenly, someone mentioning it brought the buried memories to the surface, one by one. It was truly an unpleasant memory.
"Liu Menglong?! I wonder if it's the Liu Menglong I know. Interesting... really interesting!" Li Yunzai suddenly changed his mind and turned to walk towards the playground.
The playground was covered with more snow, looking like a large snow-covered millstone from a distance. In the center of the playground was a simple stage, about twenty square meters in size. At the front were two speakers, from which powerful and rhythmic music was playing, stimulating the nerves of the surrounding students. A group of people were shouting and screaming on the snowy ground.
As Li Yunzai approached, he saw a few people standing sparsely on the stage. In the center, two girls were dancing, their movements seductive and sexy. However, after watching for a while, Li Yunzai shook his head, thinking to himself, "Students from the modern dance department, they're not much. They seem to be just average dancers."
His gaze swept across the stage, but Li Yunzai did not see the familiar Liu Menglong he remembered. Even though ten years had passed, if he saw him, he would have felt some familiarity. But at this moment, he did not feel any familiar presence from the people on the stage.
"Could it be a namesake?!" Li Yunzai muttered to himself.
At that moment, a loud cheer erupted, and four more people stepped onto the stage. Two men and two women, one of whom was the girl called Soomin, and another was her classmate. The third was the male student Li Yunzai had encountered earlier. The fourth person's back gave Li Yunzai a sense of familiarity.
"It seems it's not a namesake, it really is Liu Menglong... But didn't he go to JYP (JYP's predecessor was Taihong)? Why is he back in university?!" Li Yunzai's mind was filled with questions.
"Everyone, wasn't the performance by the two seniors just now amazing?!" The music on the stage lowered a bit, and a student who seemed to be the host held a microphone and shouted loudly.
"Amazing!!"
"Today is a very special day, the first snow of 2007, which came particularly early! So, our modern dance department has prepared a wonderful dance performance for everyone today! Next, let's hear a few words from our modern dance department's representative, senior Liu Menglong. Everyone, give him a warm welcome!"
Amidst a round of applause, Liu Menglong slowly walked to the center of the stage, took the microphone, and simply said, "In short, I hope everyone can have a great time today!"
Applause erupted, and the girls in the audience clapped enthusiastically, looking like fans.
Li Yunzai shook his head slightly. This guy still hasn't changed, always craving attention. It seems the lesson of being kicked out of S.M. as an exchange trainee wasn't severe enough to truly teach him a lesson!
Next, several dancers took the stage, performing jazz, breaking, popping, and more advanced styles like freestyle, locking, punking, and hip-hop. The variety was complex, and the students in the audience watched with great interest, constantly cheering and shouting their approval. For these ordinary college students who mostly just read books, surf the internet, and play games, seeing such a fantastic performance by the modern dance department was enough to excite them, their adrenaline surging.
However, in Li Yunzai's eyes, it wasn't so perfect. Although Li Yunzai had only mastered breaking, punking, and freestyle, he believed in quality over quantity.
Looking at the students on the stage, although they had learned many dance styles, their greed for learning every style prevented them from focusing on and mastering one. As a result, their skills in each style were only at an intermediate level. To dance experts, they were no different from amateurs. But to the general audience, they seemed very skilled, able to perform such incredible moves. In reality, with enough practice and a year or two of hard work, anyone who wasn't disabled could achieve this level. The dancers on stage just had more perseverance than the average person.
The audience, like they had taken a stimulant, kept raising their hands and waving them, and more and more people were gathering around the stage. In just a few minutes, the number of people around the stage had doubled.
"Next, please welcome senior Li Menglong, who will perform an amazing mechanical dance for us!"
Another round of cheers and shouts erupted. Liu Menglong, a third-year student in the modern dance department, was widely recognized as the best dancer. More importantly, his appearance and demeanor matched the ideal boyfriend image in the hearts of most girls. At Seoul Arts University, Liu Menglong had become the heartthrob of the entire female student body.
Feeling the cheers and shouts from the audience, Liu Menglong's vanity was greatly satisfied as he slowly walked to the center of the stage. Li Yunzai's gaze remained fixed on the stage; he wanted to see how much Liu Menglong's dance skills had improved over the past ten years.
The rhythmic music played from the speakers.
"The Pop!"
When Liu Menglong performed the first mechanical dance move, Li Yunzai recognized it immediately. It was one of the most common moves in mechanical dance, involving the vibration of different body parts, requiring a strong sense of rhythm. Clearly, Liu Menglong had a good grasp of this move. Although Li Yunzai didn't like the person, he had to acknowledge Liu Menglong's dance skills.
Next, Liu Menglong performed a The Lock or Locking. The movements were fast, then slow, creating a visual illusion as if in slow motion. This immediately drew loud praise and continuous applause from the audience.
Finally, Liu Menglong ended his performance with Michael Jackson's moonwalk. This ultimate dance move, created by the legendary Michael Jackson, was vividly performed by Liu Menglong. Many people could perform the moonwalk, but not everyone could do it as well as Liu Menglong.
"Thank you, senior Li Menglong, for your amazing mechanical dance performance! Next, any students who like to dance can come up to this stage. If you get the approval of the seniors and seniors on the stage, you can join the newly formed school club—Hot Dance Club!"
The audience erupted in excitement, especially the girls, who were thrilled at the prospect of physical contact with Liu Menglong. They couldn't help but scream in excitement.
Li Yunzai sneered. At this moment, he was finally certain that Liu Menglong had indeed been persuaded to leave JYP, or in other words, kicked out of the company. Otherwise, he wouldn't have the energy to start a dance club, which was ridiculous. Li Yunzai turned to leave.
On the stage, the male student who had briefly met Li Yunzai earlier saw his back and immediately walked to the host, whispering a few words in his ear and pointing at the crowd. The host looked surprised, and the male student nodded firmly. The host then shouted, "That student, are you interested in joining? The one with the gray scarf and black down jacket, they're calling you!"
Everyone turned to look in the direction the host pointed. Li Yunzai, feeling the intense gaze, turned around suspiciously and saw the male student standing next to the host, smirking at him.
"What a hassle!" Li Yunzai thought to himself. Clearly, the other person wanted to see him humiliated. Such a crude method, he didn't want to bother with it and turned to leave. But someone didn't let him.
The moment Li Yunzai turned, he became the focus of the audience, including Liu Menglong. Seeing Li Yunzai's face, Liu Menglong's expression froze, almost disbelieving his eyes. He rubbed his eyes several times before finally confirming it. Recalling the past, a playful smile appeared on Liu Menglong's lips.
He grabbed the microphone from the host and said, "Li Yunzai, is that you?! It's been ten years, I never thought I'd meet you here. It seems we really have a connection! Why are you leaving without even saying hello to an old friend?!"
Li Yunzai, who had already lifted his foot, put it back down and turned to look at Liu Menglong coldly, thinking to himself, "What a load of crap, your whole family is my old friend!"
"Come on, come on! Don't go!" Liu Menglong seemed genuinely like he had met an old friend, jumping off the stage and walking towards Li Yunzai. The students around him made way for him. The male student who had wanted to see Li Yunzai humiliated thought to himself, "Oh no, how could he be senior Liu's senior? This is bad, not only will I not see a good show, but I might get a scolding."
Although Liu Menglong always maintained a perfect image outwardly, those who truly knew him knew that his temper was not good.
Like an old friend who hadn't seen each other for years, Liu Menglong patted Li Yunzai on the shoulder, ignoring whether he wanted to, and dragged him onto the stage...
