Chapter 76: The LOEN Curse

5 min read1,357 words

A cold wind blew, and the sun in the sky shone like a large light bulb, emitting light but no warmth. The bone-chilling wind stung the face, causing pain.

This was the second day after Grandma's funeral. Na Soo-yeon knelt in front of the tombstone, sobbing softly. Lee Yun-jae's expression was somewhat dazed, his eyes flickering, and he sighed deeply, thinking to himself, what is the purpose of life? In the end, isn't it just a handful of earth covering the body?

Looking at the neatly arranged tombstones, Lee Yun-jae's heart calmed down at this moment. All thoughts of power, money, and grudges were forgotten. Here, there was no noise, a rare "sanctuary."

"Grandma, rest in peace. I... and Uncle and Aunt will take good care of Soo-yeon! I swear, as long as I am alive, Soo-yeon will not be bullied in the slightest!" Lee Yun-jae squatted down, hugging Na Soo-yeon's shoulders, and looked at the kind face in the small photo on the tombstone, speaking solemnly.

Na Soo-yeon instantly leaned against Lee Yun-jae, resting her head on his shoulder. At this moment, leaning on Lee Yun-jae's shoulder, she felt a sudden sense of security.

After staying in the cemetery for over an hour, Lee Yun-jae and Na Soo-yeon got up and headed directly to Anyang Train Station.

The journey was silent. At 2 PM, Lee Yun-jae and Na Soo-yeon finally returned to Seoul. Lee Yun-jae personally took Na Soo-yeon to the back door of CCM Company, then he dialed the number of a familiar person at CCM.

"Baek-ah, can you come out for a moment? I have something to ask you!" Lee Yun-jae directly called Jeon Baek-ah, who responded and hurriedly ran down the stairs.

"Yun-jae, what's the rush?" Jeon Baek-ah supported her hands on her knees, panting heavily.

"Baek-ah, let me introduce you. This is my sister, Na Soo-yeon... she will also be a trainee at CCM. Please take good care of her! Also, tell Joo-ri-ah!" Lee Yun-jae pushed Na Soo-yeon forward and introduced her to Jeon Baek-ah.

Jeon Baek-ah was initially stunned, then said, "So you're Na Soo-yeon... I've heard that our group is getting a new member, and it's you! Let's support each other in the future!" Na Soo-yeon smiled faintly, but her smile was awkward.

Jeon Baek-ah noticed that Na Soo-yeon seemed to have something on her mind but didn't pay much attention. She turned to Lee Yun-jae and said, "Yun-jae, I know you've been busy these past few days. I don't even ask you to treat us to a meal. Go ahead and get busy!"

Lee Yun-jae gave Jeon Baek-ah a grateful smile and said, "Baek-ah, you really understand... I'll remember this meal and treat you when I have time!"

At this moment, Lee Yun-jae was somewhat relieved that after shooting the MV, he had connected with Jeon Baek-ah and Lee Joo-ri at CCM. With their care for Na Soo-yeon, Lee Yun-jae could focus on his own affairs with peace of mind.

After saying goodbye to Na Soo-yeon and Jeon Baek-ah, Lee Yun-jae headed straight to LOEN. After calling Park Chan-hwan, Lee Yun-jae did not receive a call from Bae Song-in. Bae Song-in only sent a simple text message, asking him to come see him as soon as he returned to Seoul.

When he walked into LOEN, the staff who passed by all looked at Lee Yun-jae with a strange expression. In the past day, due to Lee Yun-jae, LOEN had been in turmoil, especially the management department, which was in chaos, with almost half of the managers being replaced (there weren't many, mainly because LOEN had few artists). Everyone in the company knew that the root of all this was Lee Yun-jae.

"President, I'm here!" Lee Yun-jae said calmly as he walked into Bae Song-in's office.

Bae Song-in put down his work, leaned back in his chair, and gestured for Lee Yun-jae to sit down, "I know what happened yesterday. It wasn't your fault. Park Chan-hwan has been fired, and he won't pursue the matter of you hitting him."

Lee Yun-jae sighed with relief. Deep down, he didn't want to think of LOEN as a company that treated artists like puppets. He still had a good impression of LOEN.

Park Chan-hwan's appearance had shattered his good impression, but after hearing Bae Song-in's words, Lee Yun-jae regained confidence in LOEN.

"However, Yun-jae, you need to control your temper in the future. If it gets out, it will have a significant impact on you," Bae Song-in warned.

"President, my personality is that I don't provoke trouble, but I'm not afraid of it. As long as others don't target me, I won't cause trouble... If someone targets me, I will retaliate!" Lee Yun-jae shrugged and said lightly.

When Bae Song-in heard this, he felt a chill down his back. At this moment, he re-evaluated Lee Yun-jae. Beneath his gentle exterior, there was an unknown side that would retaliate.

"Alright, let's not talk about these unpleasant things. Today, you can rest, and tomorrow, we'll continue working. We need to shoot the album cover, posters, and many other things..."

Lee Yun-jae nodded and then asked, "President, have you arranged a manager for me? If it's someone like Park Chan-hwan, I'll beat them up as soon as I see them!"

Bae Song-in spat inwardly. Now, the managers in the company see you like a cat sees a mouse. Who would dare to be your manager? But Bae Song-in found it both amusing and frustrating. Usually, it's the artist who fears the manager, but in his company, the managers were afraid of the yet-to-debut artist, Lee Yun-jae. It seemed that his beating of Park Chan-hwan had left a psychological shadow on the managers.

"This hasn't been decided yet... Who would dare to be your manager now!" Bae Song-in glared at Lee Yun-jae in frustration.

Lee Yun-jae smiled awkwardly and said, "I have a suggestion. How about my assistant, Yang Ho? What do you think, President?"

"Yang Ho? Can he do it?" Bae Song-in had doubts.

Lee Yun-jae said nonchalantly, "Being a manager is just about contacting activities, accepting offers, booking roles, and negotiating advertisements. He should be able to do it!"

Bae Song-in nodded, seeing that Lee Yun-jae was strongly recommending Yang Ho, he couldn't refuse, "Alright, let's give it a try. We'll observe him for a few months. If he's capable, he can be your manager."

"Also, President, how is the renovation of my studio going?" It had been over a month, and Lee Yun-jae had already invested 30 million won, but he didn't know the progress. He had entrusted Bae Song-in with this task.

"Rest assured, I've taken care of it. I heard they've already laid the floor, installed soundproofing and audio equipment. By the end of the month, it will be ready for inspection!"

"That's great..." Finally, a smile appeared on Lee Yun-jae's face. This was probably the best news he had heard in the past two days. With his own space, he could establish his own studio, the first step in his music career.

In the following days, Lee Yun-jae threw himself back into the shooting work. It was still the same studio, but the staff looked at him with admiration. An artist who could beat up a manager and still come to shoot the next day like nothing happened could only mean two things. One, Lee Yun-jae had a strong background, but this was clearly impossible, otherwise, Park Chan-hwan wouldn't have dared to provoke him; the other possibility was that LOEN placed great importance on him.

It seems that LOEN is really going to rise! Everyone felt a sense of awe. In the world of talent agencies, LOEN was the "tragic cup" on the table, with strong connections and substantial funds, but no notable, memorable artists.

To say that LOEN had launched many artists, but each one failed, was true only for LOEN among so many agencies.

Everyone was speculating whether Lee Yun-jae could break LOEN's curse of launching failed artists. Finally, February 7th arrived!
