On the way back to the training hall, Yang Mo felt refreshed and invigorated. Ever since breaking up with Yan Li, everything had turned for the better. Not only did he get Michael Jordan's promise today, but he also unexpectedly got a beautiful agent, who was a graduate of an Ivy League school. He had been worried about finding an agent, but now he had one who was highly qualified. Moreover, the employment contract was very favorable to him.
At this moment, Yang Mo really wanted to shout to the sky: "Heaven, you have been so good to me!"
When he arrived at the basketball court, Westbrook, Gordon, and Rose were still there. Seeing Yang Mo return, they immediately gathered around and asked with concern, "How did it go? Did Michael ask you to try out for Charlotte?"
"No," Yang Mo shook his head. He couldn't reveal this to them; if he slipped, it could cause trouble.
"Ah!" Westbrook slapped his palm and sighed, "Those guys don't know a good thing when they see it."
"Exactly, Yang's strength and rebounding are both excellent, and the last time I saw him shoot threes, he didn't miss for several minutes," Eric Gordon said, indignant on Yang Mo's behalf.
Derrick Rose stood to the side, silent for a moment, then said with a tight mouth, "It's okay. If you don't get selected, I'll definitely arrange a tryout for you with my team. I think you can definitely make it in the NBA."
"Right, I can talk to my team too," Westbrook said, thumping his chest.
"Me too, I can tell the team that drafted me how good you are," Eric Gordon chimed in.
These three truly treated Yang Mo like a brother. As top prospects, they didn't have to worry about being drafted, so they were genuinely concerned about Yang Mo's future. Yang Mo was deeply moved. He really wanted to tell them about Pat Riley and Michael Jordan, but after careful thought, he decided to keep it to himself. The matter was too significant; if it got out, it could not only delay his own prospects but also get both teams penalized.
"Alright, brothers, no matter what, we won't give up on the basketball we love. I hope one day we can meet again on the court, and when that happens, don't go easy on me," Yang Mo said with a smile.
"Don't worry, I won't. My goal this year is to be the Rookie of the Year," Westbrook said arrogantly, which earned him a glare from Derrick Rose. "If you want to be the Rookie of the Year, you'll have to ask me first."
"Don't argue, the Rookie of the Year will definitely be mine," Eric Gordon said confidently.
The three of them bickered fiercely, but none of it was taken to heart. Yang Mo believed that whoever among them won the Rookie of the Year, the others would still offer their congratulations.
As they bickered, Yang Mo suddenly wondered: Could I possibly win the Rookie of the Year?
The thought flashed through his mind, but he quickly dismissed it. He felt that just making it in the NBA was already a significant achievement. As for winning Rookie of the Year, he would take it one step at a time. You can't rush things.
Yang Mo didn't think he could win Rookie of the Year, just as he previously thought he couldn't make it in the NBA. Life is full of surprises. Sometimes the more you want something, the less likely you are to get it. When you don't focus on it, it might unexpectedly fall into your hands. Who knows what the future holds?
After chatting for a while, the other three were called away by their agents, as top prospects, they always had endless interviews to do.
Yang Mo wasn't jealous. He had the patience to wait for his time to come. Although he didn't know how long it would take, he was confident that the day wouldn't be too far off.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Following the corrections from the Miami shooting coach, Yang Mo threw the basketball into the hoop one by one. It felt like throwing stones into the sea. Yang Mo himself felt his touch becoming smoother and more natural.
It seems that professional training is more precise than self-taught methods. Of course, the reason Yang Mo could grasp it so quickly was due to his previous diligent practice. His past efforts were like building a channel, and the professional guidance from the shooting coach was the final push. Once the door was opened, the smooth, silk-like touch flowed naturally.
After shooting about five or six hundred times, Yang Mo finally felt tired. He picked up the ball and headed towards the locker room.
As he was about to enter the locker room, he bumped into Michael Beasley. Beasley, seeing Yang Mo, said apologetically, "Bro, you didn't foul on that play today. I know it better than anyone; it was a bad call by the referee."
"It's okay, it's all in the past," Yang Mo smiled, his demeanor calm and composed.
"You play so aggressively. I really hope one day we can be teammates. Then I won't have to worry about rebounds and defense anymore," Michael Beasley said seriously. As an opponent, he understood Yang Mo's strength better than Westbrook and the others. When Yang Mo entered the game, he changed the momentum, making Beasley very uncomfortable. So, he preferred being teammates with Yang Mo rather than opponents.
"Hopefully, we'll have that chance."
"Good luck, man." Beasley patted Yang Mo's shoulder, put on his headphones, and walked away, nodding his head to the music.
After showering and changing, Yang Mo left the training hall. As soon as he stepped out, Lu Xueman's call came in. Yang Mo answered, and Lu Xueman said the contract was ready and asked him to come over to review it. If there were no issues, he could sign it.
Yang Mo praised her efficiency and headed to the agreed-upon restaurant. After finding Lu Xueman and ordering their meals, he took the contract she had drafted and read it. It stated that the NBA contract would be subject to a 3% commission as per league regulations, while other commercial contracts would be split 50/50 based on the premium, but Yang Mo's valuation could not exceed 150% of the offer price.
Yang Mo frowned at this and asked, "What if the offer is very low?"
"Don't worry, I'll fight for your best interests. If the offer is too low, you have the right to veto it. This is covered in Article 37 of the contract," Lu Xueman said professionally.
Yang Mo nodded and carefully read through the entire contract. Finding no issues, he signed his name. Lu Xueman took the pen and signed as well.
After signing the contract, Lu Xueman asked formally, "Alright, now that we're a team. The draft is in New York in two days. Have any teams expressed interest in signing you?"
"Huh?" Yang Mo was slightly taken aback by the change in Lu Xueman's demeanor.
"Now I'm your agent, and I need to know everything about you to make the best decisions for you," Lu Xueman said seriously.
Yang Mo thought for a moment. Since Lu Xueman was no longer an outsider, he decided to be completely honest. He lowered his voice and said in Chinese, "Your former boss promised to draft me with a late first-round pick. Pat Riley from Miami also promised to draft me and signed a private agreement with me, offering a three-year, six-million-dollar contract."
Lu Xueman's brows furrowed, and she sighed, somewhat disappointed. "Unprofessional, very unprofessional. You don't know how to market yourself. You didn't need to sign any private agreement with Pat Riley. Since they want you so badly, you should leverage this to increase your value, create tension, and force them to draft you early, then offer you a multi-million-dollar contract."
"But..." Yang Mo hesitated, "Isn't that asking for too much? I was just an unknown player before."
"Why would they be interested in you if you were just an unknown player? They see something in you. You can't have this mindset. This is the age of the market economy. If they want to buy, why not sell for a higher price? If they're willing to spend six million, they won't mind spending an additional four million."
"I... I'm not a commodity," Yang Mo muttered.
"You are a commodity," Lu Xueman corrected him firmly. "My job is to turn you into a luxury commodity. From now on, I'll handle all contracts. With your brain, you'd be helping them count the money they're taking from you."
Lu Xueman's tone grew more confident, and Yang Mo couldn't help but cough and put on a stern face. "Do you talk to your boss like that?"
"Are you going to fire me?" Lu Xueman chuckled, pulling out the contract and pointing to a small, inconspicuous line. "It says here that I represent you for life, and if you unilaterally terminate the contract, you'll have to pay a hundred million dollars in damages."
Yang Mo, hearing this, quickly sat up and read it carefully. It was indeed true. He exclaimed, "Are you playing with me?"
"Who told you to not read it carefully?" Lu Xueman laughed, her smile sinister. She then reached out and playfully lifted Yang Mo's chin. "Now that you're in my hands, you can't escape."
"Are you flirting with your boss?" Yang Mo pushed her slender, fair hand away, warning her.
Lu Xueman's hand was quickly pushed away, but she quickly reached up again, lightly brushing Yang Mo's cheek. A fresh scent wafted into Yang Mo's nose, refreshing him. "So what if I flirt with you? If you have the power, fire me."
"I... I'll sue you for harassment. Don't you know that Isiah Thomas had to pay over fifty million dollars for harassing a cleaning lady?" Yang Mo said weakly, finally understanding why Michael Jordan said no man likes a woman to be in control. In a relationship, the man must be in charge for it to be perfect.
"Go ahead, sue me. No one will save you, no matter how loud you scream," Lu Xueman said fiercely, quoting a classic line from a movie villain, capturing the essence of lawlessness and bullying. She looked like she had Yang Mo cornered.
At that moment, Yang Mo looked like a wronged wife in a movie.
In his aggrieved state, Yang Mo downed a glass of red wine, gritting his teeth and vowing in his heart: "Lu Xueman, you're forcing me. I'll get you one day, make you sing 'Conquer' under me, and show you what it means to be a man in control."
