Chapter 67

The nights spent waiting for dawn always seem particularly long. Just as Yang Mo was about to fall asleep due to mental exhaustion, the sky finally began to lighten. The barking of the wolves gradually ceased, but... no vehicles passed by this road.
Yang Mo struggled to keep his heavy eyelids open, waiting for a vehicle, but... unfortunately, none came.
When the sun finally rose, Yang Mo could no longer resist the urge to sleep and drifted off into a deep slumber.
After an unknown amount of time, when Yang Mo opened his eyes, he saw the sunset. Kristin was sitting beside him, eating cookies one by one.
"Are we still on the highway?" Yang Mo asked, somewhat despondently.
"Yep." Kristin nodded and handed him a bottle of water, saying, "Do you want to eat something?"
How could Yang Mo have any appetite? He felt utterly frustrated and asked, "Didn't any vehicles pass by here?"
"Yes, they did!" Kristin nodded.
"Then why didn't you stop them?" Yang Mo was on the verge of breaking down. If she saw the vehicles, why did they stay here?
"I did stop them. I bought this food from them." Kristin waved the food in her hand and said, "I was afraid you would be hungry, so I bought a bit more."
Damn!
Yang Mo slapped his head; he couldn't take it anymore. He said very dejectedly, "Kristin, if you were worried about me being hungry, weren't you also worried about me missing the game?"
"It's fine. I already called the tow truck service with their phone. They promised to arrive before dark." Kristin said while eating chips.
"I really admire you." Yang Mo muttered in Chinese, took a hot dog from her, and stuffed it into his mouth. He had been hungry for almost a day and a night.
After quickly finishing the hot dog, he grabbed a handful of chips and kept eating. Seeing Yang Mo stuffing himself, Kristin hurriedly handed him a bottle of water and reminded him to eat slowly.
Yang Mo's starving stomach had just received a bit of energy, and he couldn't stop.
After eating about ten packs of chips, Yang Mo finally managed to quell his hunger. If there were a bowl of fragrant rice with toppings in front of him now, he would definitely finish it in ten seconds, leaving not a single grain of rice.
"Can I watch your game tonight?" Kristin asked softly.
"Let's see if I can make it to the game first. I really admire you. Why did you have to involve me? Look at all the trouble I've been through today." Yang Mo complained.
"This is our destiny. It's heaven's way of bringing us together." Kristin said with a devout expression. As a Christian, she seemed to believe in fate very much.
But Yang Mo didn't believe in it. So he shook his head indifferently and said, "Heaven didn't do anything good last night."
Hearing this, Kristin chuckled and leaned in, saying in a sweet voice, "I think heaven did something good last night. At least it let me meet you."
Seeing Kristin's expression, Yang Mo was speechless. Considering she was still a virgin, he didn't comment on her being overly sentimental.
At that moment, a distant sound of a siren was heard. Yang Mo opened the car door and looked out. It was the tow truck, and he felt a wave of relief.
When the tow truck arrived, Yang Mo immediately borrowed a phone from the driver and quickly called Pat Riley. As soon as he identified himself, Pat Riley's angry voice came through: "Yang, your actions over the past two days have disappointed me greatly."
"I..." Yang Mo had never heard Pat Riley sound so angry before and hurriedly explained, "Sir, it's a misunderstanding. I was trapped in the wilderness last night..."
"Did you go on a wild adventure with Kristin? Now all the media in the U.S. are reporting that you've interfered in Kristin's relationship and you two have eloped. Is that true?" Pat Riley's anger grew as he spoke. Initially, he believed Yang Mo when he saw the newspaper, but when he asked Dwyane Wade, who was also present, Dwyane told him: "It's true. Yang caught up with Kristin in less than half an hour."
Dwyane Wade's words undoubtedly harmed Yang Mo, causing his impression in Pat Riley's mind to plummet. In Pat Riley's view, a basketball player being too closely involved with the entertainment industry would shift the media's focus, which would be a significant blow to the team's image.
"No, it's really just a misunderstanding. I have nothing to do with Kristin. Our car broke down last night. I just found a tow truck, and I'm heading to Madison Square Garden now." Yang Mo said anxiously and sincerely.
"Get here quickly. We'll discuss the specifics after the game." Pat Riley left a message that gave Yang Mo a glimmer of hope: "Magloire twisted his neck last night and can't play today. I need you to hold the interior defense."
"Sure, no problem. I'll head to Madison Square Garden right away to join the team." Yang Mo hung up happily and said to the tow truck driver, "Madison Square Garden, thank you."
"Aren't we going to the repair shop?" the driver asked, confused.
"Let's go there first, then to the repair shop." Yang Mo said firmly, then turned to Kristin and asked, "Do you have any objections?"
"I don't." Kristin shook her head like a submissive wife, looking as if she would follow his every word.
Seeing she had no objections, Yang Mo quickly got into the tow truck, and Kristin followed.
The driver soon finished the towing procedure and started the vehicle, heading towards Madison Square Garden.
After driving for a while, he suddenly turned his head and looked at Yang Mo and Kristin, asking curiously, "Are you the basketball player and movie star who eloped?"
"What do you mean?" Kristin asked, puzzled.
The driver quickly took out an entertainment weekly from the side and handed it to them, saying, "I thought you looked familiar, but I didn't expect it to be you."
The two took the newspaper. The front page headline was about them, with a series of photos in the center showing the two of them running hand in hand at Jay-Z's party, and a picture of Robert drinking to drown his sorrows at the end.
The headline was even more explosive: "Twilight Star Dumps Boyfriend, Elopes with Miami Player; Robert Drinks Away Sorrows, Looking Worn Out."
