Although Wei Da could only be considered a novice, he could still guarantee that there was no outbreak of disease among Josh's cattle; this was indeed reassuring. An outbreak of disease could be a headache, and although Wei Da knew he had the ability to deal with such diseases, he also had to consider the significant challenges he might face in the process.
Gaining more experience was what Wei Da needed most now. Without a disease outbreak, dealing with other minor issues was very important for Wei Da. Without a disease outbreak, the current problem was that the cattle had poor appetites, and Wei Da needed to get them to eat more.
"Josh, can I take a look at your feed?" Brahman cattle have a coarse appetite, and they can eat rough feed that ordinary cattle find hard to digest.
Wei Da looked at the feed Josh provided, which was all rough feed, mainly consisting of dry grass, corn stalks, wheat straw, rice straw, millet straw, and bean stalks, along with chaff. Although it was all rough feed, there were no significant issues. This was the usual feed for Brahman cattle, and an experienced old cowboy like Old Josh would not make many mistakes.
Giving the cattle fine feed would be inappropriate, as it would increase the breeding costs and go against the feeding habits of Brahman cattle. So, Wei Da quickly searched his mind for some information. Although the "Shennong Classic" did not mention Brahman cattle, many principles were universal. With absolute ability, one could find a solution.
"Josh, I can leave you a feed formula that won't increase your breeding costs. You just need to slightly adjust the feed ratio. Trust me, it will definitely work. I can do this without charging you, and you might see results in two or three days." Wei Da was not being petty; he needed to prove himself and maintain some patience, or perhaps think long-term.
Josh held the feed formula Wei Da had written. The basic ingredients did not change much, but the proportions of the mix had some variations. Honestly, Josh did not think Wei Da's formula was special, given his extensive experience as an old herdsman.
However, seeing his cattle unwilling to eat the feed, missing the crucial time for weight gain would be a significant loss for Josh. Although he was skeptical, he still accepted Wei Da's formula, as it did not require much additional investment and seemed to have no risk. It was worth a try.
"I'll leave my phone number with you. This is just the first treatment. When you see the results, I believe you will trust me more." Wei Da left some room for maneuver, as he did not want his efforts to be in vain. He planned to make a living with this skill.
After leaving the feed and making some minor changes to the breeding details, Wei Da was satisfied and prepared to leave. For him, the first attempt was quite successful and smooth. Now he needed to wait patiently. Once Josh saw results, Wei Da would not have to worry about clients, and there was no need to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Back in Dallas, Wei Da continued his studies and delved deeper into the "Shennong Classic." While researching beef cattle, Wei Da focused on forage. Being a veterinarian was promising, but if he could cultivate high-quality forage, it would provide him with more opportunities. In such large ranches, if Wei Da could improve the forage, he believed his clients would be plentiful.
"Wei, there's a Rangers game today, let's go!" Wei Da met a good friend as he came out of the library.
"Hey, Kevin, I'm not a baseball fan." Wei Da shrugged. Baseball and football were the most popular sports in the U.S., followed by horse racing. Basketball was also popular but lagged behind baseball and football. The NBA's global commercial success was undeniable, but it also had regional factors.
"That's a shame. You might need to keep watching the Dallas Mavericks. Who knows when they'll win their first championship." Kevin shrugged, not a basketball fan himself, but he knew Wei Da was.
Wei Da's days were fulfilling. His coursework was light, and he had already completed his credits. Now he was working on his thesis. Wei Da was continuously absorbing other knowledge. Although the "Shennong Classic" was magical, he needed to consider the differences in species in the U.S. Wei Da was very satisfied with his current life, constantly enriching his knowledge, and he believed he was getting closer to success.
"Hey, Wei!" Wei Da was cooking when the phone rang. It was a day earlier than he expected, and Josh sounded very enthusiastic on the phone.
"Josh, how's the ranch?" Wei Da was confident. Receiving Josh's call indicated that his first attempt was successful, and this call proved that he had successfully attracted his first client.
"Thanks for the formula, buddy, you're really amazing!" Despite being an experienced old herdsman, Josh felt that the Chinese man was truly remarkable. Just a slight adjustment to the feed ratio had significantly improved the cattle's appetites. Seeing the cattle eat well, Josh was naturally very happy.
"Josh, I believe you now trust my abilities. Perhaps we can move to a new stage, which will bring greater success to your ranch. But, buddy, my formula isn't cheap." Wei Da was not overcharging; he believed the formula was worth it, and he was confident Josh would make the right decision.
"Alright, buddy, you win. I need the feed ratio you have." Josh was eagerly looking forward to the feed ratio, but he knew he had to pay a price to get this amazing formula.
"Josh, this is the right decision. My feed has a special effect. I will conduct a detailed examination of your cattle to ensure they receive the correct nutritional supplements. This is genuine and optimized for your cattle." Wei Da was not worried about Josh sharing the formula, as it was tailored to Josh's cattle and might not work for others.
This trip to Abilene made Wei Da even happier. The first time was just a trial, but now he had a client, proving he was getting closer to success.
"Life is full of laughter, foolish love is just a joke... erase love and hate, I just want to enjoy life with a drink!" Wei Da sang the carefree and grand "Laughing at the Red Dust" with a happy heart. Good news brings joy, and Wei Da had encountered good news.
Five thousand dollars was not a small amount. Wei Da would thoroughly develop a 'scientific' and systematic feed plan for Josh's cattle. Five thousand dollars, equivalent to over 300,000 RMB; in the U.S., a Big Mac costs less than three dollars, NBA tickets range from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars, and a BMW X3 costs about 40,000 dollars.
Wei Da had no reason to be dissatisfied with this income. He would not consider buying a car with this money; he would send it back to his parents. His family owed a lot of money, and this amount could pay off most of the debt. Once the debt was cleared, and with Wei Da earning money, he had no reason to doubt that his family's conditions would improve. He had no reason to doubt that he could make his parents live a better life!
