“I—feel like I must have been a
lonely cat during my time in the human world. Even though I don’t
have much memory of it, there are times when fragments of those sort
of emotions come to mind. That’s why I’m really glad you’re so kind
to me, Kiri, and I’m able to spend time having fun with Natsuki and
Akio.”
He was apart of this group that consisted of
cat-eared children and a young man that wasn’t their father. He felt
lost at first, but he immediately grew accustomed to them, and melded
in with them like family. It was a warmth that would have been
difficult to achieve—or perhaps he had lost, when he was a cat.
“I’ve spoken to you about it before, Kiri……but I have a
memory of a boy I played with, that I now look like. I must have
loved that boy……the time I spent with him made me happy. But, I
have these extremely sad and lonely feelings as well. I don’t know
what those may be, but I definitely feel as though I was no longer by
that boy’s side, and before I came to the Country of Cats, I was all
alone.”
“You don’t think that boy who may
have been your owner will be by your side in the human world
anymore?”
He didn’t know. He had no certainty. Just—even
though he felt as though he had to regain his true form, he never had
the desire to return. Didn’t that mean he had no place to call
home?
“I can’t say anything for certain, but……for now, I
think I’d like to go the human world to find out. You told me I
needed to remember my true self so I wouldn’t go back to being a
normal cat. Natsuki and Akio have been teaching me, and I’ve been
practicing to turn into a cat somehow, but I haven’t made any
progress. Of course, nor can I turn into a human form without cat
ears or tail either.”
