“Lulu! I heard that the vanguards of the Radiant Chivalric Order will be heading to Black Rock City’s cathedral today. Many people all went. Would you like to check it out too?” The pretty and delicate young girl with freckles on her face said excitedly .
The girl named Lulu hesitated and then shook her head: “No, Nina, I want to get back home earlier.”
Nina didn’t expect the girl to refuse so straightforwardly. She said with disbelief, “Lulu, could it be that you don’t know about the Radiant Chivalric Order?”
How could she not know?
Elulu smiled bitterly in her heart. When she was the sainte of the temple in her last life, the Radiant Chivalric Order were her closest guards. There would definitely be a Radiant Knight from the Order following her no matter where she went.
There were just under a hundred members within the Radiant Chivalric Order, which sounds like a large number, but these hundred or so people were the outstanding elites amongst the tens of billions of human beings. Their origins, abilities, and appearances have passed through layers of screening. Despite the harsh conditions, the knights of every country still wracked their heads to enter the Chivalric Order.
Because once you enter the Chivalric Order, even as the newly recruited lowest ranked knight, you obtained power that was comparable to that of a viscount. This is not accounting for the vast room for improvement and the amount of resources. Even harder to obtain was the selfless guidance from the high-level knight mentors. Just this point alone was enough for people to go crazy.
As for this type of Chivalric Order, the temple had six others but their division of labor was different. Just their beliefs and duties were unified; protect the mainland, expel the demons, intimidate the foreign races, and to be loyal to the temple.
In the Eurofrance continent, the temple held power above all, even the royal family had to bow down.
As for the existence of the sainte, she was the representative and spokesperson for the temple. She held a distinguished status, was responsible for relaying prophecies, drawing in believers, appeasing the hearts of the people, and maintaining absolute purity in mind and body, devoting her entire life to the temple.
When Elulu was still the sainte of the temple, she conscientiously and respectfully devoted herself to the work of the sainte, and enjoyed the honor and status that she should enjoy. Even the princess of the royal family had a far less honorable position than her.
It stands to reason that ordinary people would even wake up with a smile even if they dreamt that they became the sainte.
However, Elulu was not from the Eurofrance continent. She originally came from a peaceful and prosperous world. She was sent to the temple’s altar during an accident and became a baby girl. The pope mistakenly thought of her as a messenger of God and raised her as the sainte.
The status of women in this world was very low. Aside from the powerful aristocratic girls, the beautiful civilian girls could not protect themselves. Even if they were abducted from the streets, they could only resign themselves to their fate. Thus, Elulu was still glad that she became the sainte. Otherwise, with her appearance, she was afraid that she would’ve become some nobleman’s exclusive plaything long ago.
However, as the saint, she had also lost the rights and freedom of ordinary girls. Even her own face could not be exposed in front of others. She had to wear a veil at all times. With the exception of the pope and the seven knight captains, no one knew the true appearance of the sainte.
Thus, even though it was an honorable status that was unmatched, Elulu still yearned for an ordinary girl’s freedom and happiness.
Elulu already couldn’t remember clearly how she had suddenly died in her last life. Her memory right before death was blank, like it was forcefully erased by someone.
But she also didn’t care much about the truth of her death anymore. Being able to live again was the best compensation for her, but that’s only under the condition where she could hide her appearance in order to be safe.
Girls all loved beauty, but too much beauty was a dangerous thing. Not to mention others, even she would often fall into a daze when she looked at her face. Clearly the facial features were exactly the same as her original self; just that the color of her hair and eyes had changed, and her facial features had become more refined. How did she become so beautiful?
If it was her original self, she would’ve died from joy. However, in this world, she didn’t dare to use her original countenance to meet others lest she brought trouble upon herself. She had to disguise herself at all times.
Today the only reason why she went to the market with Nina from the same village was because she had used up all her hair dye and powders. Also, it was time to change Diana’s clothes that had already turned white from washing. Although she didn’t care about her own clothes, Elulu was very distressed that, as a girl, she didn’t care about her appearance, having an even rougher appearance than men. If it wasn’t for Elulu’s insistence, she might have even shaved her hair in order to save trouble.
Diana was a girl five years older than Elulu and her current family. She had rescued Elulu, who was only a few years old after being reborn, from the mouth of a wolf in the forest.
Diana was an abandoned baby because she has a full head of inauspicious black hair and red eyes. It was said that only the evil demons had these colors for their hair and eyes. Thus, her parents abandoned her in the forest, letting her live or die by herself. But Diana still stubbornly survived, associating with the wolf packs and lived within the forest as her home. After she rescued Elulu, the two began to live and mutually depend on each other.
At first, when Lulu saw the uncivilised Diana, she thought that she was a boy. It was only later, when she saw her take off her clothes to take a bath in the river, did she realize that she was a girl, and a very pretty girl at that. However, when compared to Elulu exquisite beauty, Diana’s appearance was more of the neutral and handsome type of look.
Even though Diana was a few years older than Elulu, she was still as naive and simple as a child. Most of the time, it was mostly Elulu taking care of her, as if Elulu was the older sister. She taught her how to speak, taught her how to read, and got her to learn the common sense and living habits of human beings. Diana was also very attached to her. Outside of the necessary outing to go hunting, Diana followed her every step like a small tail.
However, because Diana’s special hair and eye color were too eye-catching, Elulu was worried that she would be captured by the people of the temple and burned to death at the stake as a demon. Even the hair dye couldn’t dye her black hair into other colors, so she didn’t dare to bring her along out together.
While Elulu was still lost in her thoughts, Nina’s astonished shriek suddenly sounded out by her ear, “Ahhhhhhh!!! It’s the Radiant Chivalric Order!!!”
The crowd of people in the bazaar and the various peddlers within the alley also began to clamor en suite, impatiently rushing out onto the wide street like locusts.
Their craziness couldn’t be blamed, afterall, the Temple’s Chivalric Order was incomparably respected. One might not be able to see them even in the capital city of the Uma Empire. How could it not cause a sensation for them to appear now in this tiny Black Rock City.
Elulu was almost knocked onto the ground by the crazy crowd. When she finally was able to stand firmly, she suddenly found that Nina was gone.
Nina’s mother was a gentle and kind woman. She usually took care of Elulu. Before going out, Nina’s mother specifically told Elulu to keep a proper eye on the lively and energetic Nina. Elulu promised so how could she not panic now that Nina had disappeared?
With Nina’s previous reaction, no further thoughts were necessary. She must have gone to see the Chivalric Order.
Currently, Elulu didn’t want to be associated with the Chivalric Order again. She feared to meet those few Knight Captains the most. Even though the chance of that happening was very small, it was still best to be careful.
She raised her head and looked at the dark crowd of people. Afraid that the rash Nina would run into the people within the Order, she hurriedly walked over.
